- The conclusion to our adventures in EoTN, and indeed all of GW.
I love you guys :D.
______________
So you want to try the hunt? First clue is this:
''The first time we met Charlie''.
If you can find where that is in the LP, an annotation will guide you to the next location. Good luck! (Please don't spoil what the prize is in the comments guys! Its just your treat if you make it) - Hry
Sitting here in 2016, still playing GW1 on Victoria Ravensoul my NecroMonk to this day. I like Guild Wars 2, but GW1 is beyond special to me all these years later.
You should head over to the American servers, they're the last populated ones
Agreed, after more than a decade I still cannot stop returning to this perfectly constructed game. For people that like solitary challenges and tinkering with so many different builds and teams, Guild Wars is undeniably one of the most eternal and classic games of all time.
Yonathan Sidiahmed Suarez yup! IGN: Hope Once More
It is fun to go back and look at old GW1 videos like this.
Aint kidding, doing the same.
It makes me sad, watching this video. I remember when I got Guild Wars in late 2005. I was a kid back then and little did I know how much I would fall in love with this game, this world.
This game defined my childhood. From Prophecies to The Eye of the North it was one hell of a ride.
When I see this video it makes me remember how much time had passed, and that in a way a certain era ended for me. I get emotional every time I hear the intro theme from prophecies...
So I take this opportunity to raise a glass to all you veterans who played and still play Guild Wars.
wish i knew about gw1 earlier... when i got to guild wars gw2 was a thing so i thought it's probably better to play the newer title. well, gw2 was ok, yeah i had fun but somehow it felt like it completely lacked any challenge in pve (pve mmorpg player here) so i quit before HoT came out. a year ago i thought i'd start a new character with HoT and thought it might be fun until i got the feeling that it still doesn't include much of a challenge. after that i finally got into gw1 2017 and while i'm glad i finally got into it i'm also quite sad i haven't tried it before :/
while i'm not a guild wars veteran i still enjoy it really much since i can't find any other mmorpg as fun as gw1 (maybe it's because gw1 seems to be harder (maybe it's just because i'm not used to it yet, but it feels harder and i hope it is) than most (quite any) modern mmorpg)
I hear ya. Spent a lot of time on GW. Setup computers with friends in the garage. Pizza and beers to power us through to 6am. Good times.
Wow, what a run of four 'Let's Plays' and 11 years after they were done. Brilliant work. Not played in years, but I am going back, to start a new account and experience it new again. See how far I get with no grouping, no trading...just for fun. Thanks for your great story telling.
Hey guys just want to say that the scavenger hunt is LIVE. First annotation was broken for some reason but its all fixed now, good luck!
I have been playing Guild Wars on and off ever since I first got it on Chirsmas 2006, but due to your LP series I got back into it full force.
Your commentary and story telling skills are increadible. Thank you for reviwing this game for me once more.
Thank you again for this lovely LP series. I have watched every single episode of the previous ones and will continue with Beyond and the other videos you have uploaded :-)
Keep it coming!
Thank you for doing these. For those of us who were introduced to this world only recently via GW2, your videos are a wonderful window into the history and lore of this game.
Well done and congratulations on wrapping up a fantastic LP. As someone who has never played Guild Wars, you have opened my eyes to the amazing storytelling and attention to detail within its world. Thank you for your relentless, insightful, and inspiring journey through Tyria.
This is such a well perfected LP I must say the effort put into this is so significant to how well it has came out, although the lets play has little views you should be proud to have one of the greatest and most perfected lets play I have ever seen anyways well done :D
It's been fun watching the videos. I first game here from one of GWBuddy's vids talking about someone doing a lore oriented let's play of the game. That caught my interest, and the presentation style was good. You've really done a lot showing off a lot of the story without getting too bogged down with quests, which has been nice. Great job, and I hope to see more videos from you soon.
and that's EoTN binged. has been a lot of fun rewatching/listening to these playthroughs while i've been working from home.
Ive yet to watch this, but thank you for uploading all of this, I just caught up to the present after watching all of your archive videos. It sure took a while, but I'm finally here!
Wow great LP! Can't believe how much I've learnt from this whole LP series even though I've spent over 1000 hours in Guild Wars. Can't wait to keep on watching the rest of your content!
Thanks for all your hard work creating these videos, they're still being watched in 2020!
I admit I haven't watched ALL of your videos, but I have greatly enjoyed every single I watched. I've never seen a let's play where the story of the game is a prominent focus of the video. The way you read the NPC and journal/storyline dialogue really stood out to me, and I appreciate everything you've showed us in your videos. You sure aren't the one to skimp on details, and believe me your knowledge and time of and in the GW universe will never go to waste. I hope to play with you in GW2!
Huh... I remember seeing this and wondering what that meant. Pretty cool we saw the pale tree. "New creatures would stir..." and showing us a growing tree!? Forgot all about that curiosity until I saw this again. Thanks for showing all this collection down memory lane.
nostalgia... , for the people saying they miss the old days well yesterday it took me 5min to reinstall the gw1 launcher and yes i'm back at it again :) was really suprised how many players are still active on guild wars... sooo let's al just rise up and make the community active again, a game will only die when the last players stops wich will never happen in guildwars
Lovely comment :D
+WoodenPotatoes tyvm :)
unfortunatly it Will die when server turns down xD
Yes! I'm playing every day, i prefer gw to gw2 so play 1 more. Nostalgia punched me to hell and back when the character creation music played.
Geez Wooden. It's been a year and half since I last watched this and you've still got me tearing up with that ending. You're fantastic so please keep doing what you're doing!
Congratz on finishing the guild wars let's play! I'm gonna miss it..:( Great wrap up of everything at the end there aswell! really appreciate how much work you've put into the series:) ''Bear looks upon you with approval'' should be a meme.
Figure I may as well leave my mark.... after I saw some of your GW2 Daily vids, I decided to watch your LP, starting right from the beginning and following it to the end. While I haven't watched your Beyond stuff quite yet, nor the SF or non-campaign stuff, what I have seen is marvelous. The lore you drop is amazing, and your run with Peter in Prophecies was utterly incredible. I look forward to watching you further.
Wow, what a great ending! I've said thanks before at the end of your other LPs and I really mean it. I'm genuinely grateful that I randomly clicked on one of your videos a year ago and started watching because it's given me an appreciation for a game and a story I wouldn't have known nearly as much about otherwise. It's been a real joy watching your videos and interacting with you since, and it's become a staple of my daily life, so whatever thanks you give is returned fully. You should be proud
Wonderful LP & the perfect ending! I'm sure I missed some Prophecies so time to watch those missing pieces while waiting for the dungeons. :D
Thank you a lot for the laugh and smiles Wooden. /salute
Best lets play ive ever watched and I dont watch many. They have to be really good for me to watch and i watched every episode of yours :) keep it up m8
Wooden Potatoes you are a legend! Been playing along since I first found you on youtube when I only had Nightfall. Since then went out and bought the rest and played along whilst watching the videos (dual screen). You have made the game a thousand times more enjoyable. Looking forward to watching the beyond GW stuff. Well done you are appreciated! A skills and build video would be nice if you haven't already done one, your opinion on build strategies would be awesome! Scavenger hunt here I come!
Awesome lets play man I've played the game completed all 4 campaigns but I've learnt so much more by watching your videos and am now ready for guild wars 2 :)
Well I ended up here nearly 9 years later. This is a really well put together video, appreciate reading all the dialogue. Truly a great game.
You've been a great mentor Wooden. I doubt I would've ever gotten past the Crystal Desert if it wasn't for you. I think the whole idea of passing on the knowledge was a great idea. New players like me can learn so much about the world, development and so much more from these videos.
I've already signed up for the dungeon crawls and I'm sure we'll run into eachother some time in GW2. I'm looking forward to it.
By the way, I love the editing in this video, it looks very proffessional.
Congratulations on finishing them mate!!
its really fun to watch. now i cant wait for the "GW2 let's play" :P
GWEN LP finished in 20 minutes, that's a record! Anyway, really enjoyed the ending, and the editing as well. 35:00 scepter of ore stuff is really neat, too bad its not continued in beyond. 52:00 charlie drowning! poor thing is a fire imp as well, its like a charmander's flame being snuffed! I have to say I absolutely love the norn theme. Soooo beatufil and epic!
I can definitely relate to what you're saying about wasting time!
I am actually quite happy that I stopped playing for almost 2 years in order to graduate (school). I just picked it up and really enjoyed watching your LP (again so much time "wasted", but not really wasted, I feel now). I must admit I did skip some episodes, though only side ones. Really great work!
Finished GW1 series in 2019 :D Thank you for your amazing work WP!
Amazing series, can't believe the end is already here, feels like it was a couple weeks ago this all started.
BTW I found the first tip but no annotation so far ...
I can't wait for the GW:B series and also play my Norn in GW2 :P
Than you for another gr8 LP and I'm excited for your upcoming things:) Well Done!
First time I see how the Pale Tree came to be, and from always hearing it was something shown on EOTN I always thought there would be something more to it, like a quest or cutscene. But it was simply there.
Congratulations on a job well done! Thanks for the hours of entertainment, past and still to come.
Don't feel bad about the hours WP. Over the past 12 years I have over 15000 hours clocked across all my accounts, and I celebrate each and every one of them. So many fantastic experiences, so many great memories, and so many awesome friends i've made. I wouldn't trade it for anything. this video brought tears to my eyes, Thank you for everything you do for our community. To us, you are as much a part of Guild Wars as Prince Rurik or Glint.
Amazing... Thank you so much for this Awesome LP cant wait for GW beyond and the dungeons and mostly GW2!
its funny how you said the sylvari were created to fight the elder dragons but now we find out that they were created by one of the elder dragons themselves
I love how adorable this is "Lets crack it open with a read of our journal - A Time for Heroes - lets get Charlie out as well." Lmao I just imagine WP summoning an imp irl and reading it bedtime stories about his adventures years ago in gw1 :D
Now that I've reached the end, it's time to leave a comment.
I found this LP because I wanted to know more about the lore of Guild Wars after my girlfriend dragged me into GW2. So, really, thank you so so much for taking the time to making such a lore focused LP because it was EXACTLY what I wanted and what I was looking for. It's made playing GW2 so much more fun because I understand all the references to GW1, know who the hell Glint is, who the hell the White Mantle and the Mursaat and the Shining Blade are...
So thank you for making my GW experience so much better. Kudos to you. You're amazing.
Thanks so much Tossino! It makes me so wildly happy that you took the time to sit down and watch this series. Hope you had fun. Don't forget about the bonus "Beyond" stuff if you're interested!
Oh, I couldn't stay away. :D More lore? Yes please!
I really loved the video
As a enthusiastic of GW, I also wanted to learn all the history, I was always being rushed by my mother to play and leave the details, to not loose time into the chats with NPC or the cut scenes ( she also played GW, just because of fun, and yes... She completed every campaign before me, except Eye of North, which she didn't possess, ah ah an XD )
Yet, for me, Wooden Potatoes have become someone I really respect for all his effort into those videos
I just wish I could meet you in GW2 to bow to you ( and also discuss some history about the other Elder Dragons, especially the very one I'm interested a lot, which is no other than Primordus )
My mom played before me but she showed me it, after I made my first char I surpassed her quickly and soon she had me doing everything for her
Thanks very much ^^ This was all very fun to make!
WoodenPotatoes by the way, WoodenPotatoes, in GW2, which Elder Dragon do you think we will fight in the final ? Or in other words, who will be the greatest Elder Dragon threat to Tyria ? I think it will be no other than Primordus itself, since he is a threat not only to Tyria, but to Elona and Cantha too :D
Naw Bubbles, with his name he will destroy the world.
Truely a great way to validate all those hours spent on such an awesome game, shame it's all coming to an end.
I look forward to the dungeon series and hope to participate.
These videos have been excelent :)
Dude, this is awesome. now I think Im gonna have to go all the way back to the first video you made so I can get fully siked up for GW2 @_@
Well, glad to be a part of the ears that boost yer purpose, ty for the time INVESTED :D
Was watching bit by bit over the while with a few brakes here and there, guess I still have some time to spend with the Beyond stuff xD
Fantastic Job W.P.!!!!!! Thank you kind sir for your awesome vids.!!!
11:33 and here we are July 27th 2016,In Guild Wars 2,Taimi:Primordus is active.
We know Primordius has been relatively active for at least a hundred years. He's been tunneling beneath the surface.
Well done my friend, endless hours of work have gone into this series, and as a guild wars fanatic I'm proud to be subscribed to you!
See you in Guild Wars 2?
Brady
Woah so you're already here 11 years ago.
So I had some friends suggest Guild Wars 2 to me, and I was starting to get bored with the game (I'm very story driven through games, and had no motivation to grind for the personal story) when I thought "hey, there was a game before this, right? Surely there's some cool lore I'm missing out on." So glad I clicked on your videos- this Lets Play has motivated me through one character to creating a new one just for the story... to the chagrin of the friend who introduced me to it!
However you wanted to watch is however you watched :D Glad you had fun.
Thanks for all your work man!
It was quite pleasant going through Tyria with you WP. I wish I could finish Beyond in a week before GW2.
I knew that already, but your playthroughs really are quality and rewatchable. Maybe it's just me but they also seem like a dying art at this point. So in some way you are the pinnacle.
Congrats on finishing the LP. I wish I had found this sooner than half way through EotN, but I went back to watch most of the episodes.
Also, I don't see an annotation on the video where we met Charlie.
this game was absolutely amazing
Finally finished this LP, so I'll leave with this:
And this may sound silly and cheesy, but I have to admit that you and your characters have made a lasting impression of my views of the GW universe - I can't imagine GW now without Peter, Tom, and Matt and it almost brings me to tears at the thought we may not see them again come GW2. I came for the lore, I stayed for you.
Thank you.
Played through Proph, Factions and Nightfall when I was quite young, never bothered with EOTN though. Being young, and quite dumb, I also missed A LOT of the lore. Which really sucks it would seem. Just rolled through this entire lets play in a matter of days (whilst playing GW2). You're doing an absolutely AMAZING thing with the GW-universe. Insta-subbed, keep it going and all that good stuff - or rather keep the GW2 stuff going.
Ur Let´s play was awesome^^ srly
You may know it already but I enjoyed it. Great job by the way clearing the first stuff solo.
I hope we meet in GW2^^
iv played guild wars 1 sine it came out . i love this game . its a shame there will be no more exp but just watching this vid bring back some good good times
This game needs to be sold as an offline single-player game after it shuts down.
@r0dders1
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
remember the nameless lich you shown in your 1st halloween video? that could be livia once she got the scepter of orr... since she "sacrificed" something or maybe "someone"... just like the lich who sacrificed his entire nation in orr
@Risiskyalani
They aren't necessarily your ancestor. You just inherit the goods. No relation.
great job on the LP, wooden ^^ it's been great :D. (staying sub'd) ^^
Hah! I've been watching these let's plays since before my first alemoot!
I love that Tom Bluewood has only half as many hours as the others, but nigh twice as many deaths!
On another sidenote: you completely missed ronan multiple times. ;)
I should probably sign of now, do the scavenger hunt and go to bed... :P
Thank you at least for the awesome awesome LP and lore. I started playing GW as my first MMO back when there was only prophecies and played through all the campains. But I never knew all the story and interesting tidbits of information that were there in the universe! Thank you for showing me all of it!
That was a lot of lore to suck in... But THANK YOU! This helped a lot to understand a lot of things (having not played the first Guild Wars).
@sergio160
Plus he was the first evil we met. Ties up nicely if he's the last one we slay - fighting to survive when all others have died.
Watched your vids since factions and its well been worth it i know alot know Thx WoodenPotatoes :D
Woho, that's eye of the north. Thanks for the let's play. Still have to watch the domains of the gods.
On the Sylvari, I really hope ArenaNet won't come out and say the Sylvari has been around before and that they are born to fight the dragons, feels cliché. GW2 actually have good dialogue on that, one Sylvari saying they must have been born to fight the dragons, considering to timing, to that another Sylvari answer that humans have this concept called a coincidence. I really hope it is :p.
“This is goodbye to Ogden.” Unless, you know, you play as a Norn, join the Durmand Priory, and/or play into LWS 2 and beyond...
We do know (correct me if I'm wrong) that the scepter was used by the lich to control te titans. So it obviously can control something. I personally think that the scepter really had nothing to do with the undead and that the lich was all faking it to get access to the door of komalie. I think that the scepter can control waaay more powerfull things. It would be cool if in GW2 we went out and got the scepter to summon allies/magics to help us in our fight against Zaitan!
@ZeldaStar103
That's exactly what I'm thinking too, it also seems that Primordus is a much more fitting name for the biggest baddest dragon. It kinda has first (prime), and oldest kinda theme to his name.
@WoodenPotatoes also btw i've noticed the "salvation" at 54:53 ^^. nice job on putting that in there :D
Good times and congratulations! I also have over 5000 hours sunk into GW, it's just such a great game.
Did you catch in that cutscene when the White Mantle retrieve the Scepter of Orr one of the knights saying, "Thank Dwayna"? How odd!
Yeah, I actually knew it before filming. Damn warriors and their extrat set!
Awesome game!!!!
I am gonna miss this let's play
Dude, time totally not wasted!
Thank YOU so much!
So awesome thx a lot
I just finished eoth.. it was fricking awsome
love the original Guild Wars, I started playing it a week or two after launch (when I was 11) and have put in over 11,000 hours over the years. That being said, as a current GW2 fanatic, I think you are looking through the nostalgia goggles. Guild Wars was, at its center, a PvP game. The game was designed from the ground up to be based around pvp, hence why you are literally forced into a pvp match before you even leave pre-searing. I loved this about the game, and its my biggest gripe towards gw2 (not being pvp centric). One of the bigger issues was the result of something that many wanted to see in GW2. When a game gives each profession hundreds of skills, none of which being more powerful versions of the same skill, it becomes utterly impossible to balance. How many hours did you spend in the tomb of primeval kings? No, not the dungeon, the original (the lobby that was later moved into the mists and became Heroes Ascent as we now know it). 8v8 pvp became a nightmare with countless team-builds being absurdly overpowered at various points throughout the games lifespan. It became impossible to manage for ArenaNet, so impossible that they eventually decided to make an entirely new game to remedy the situation. Obviously there were a ton of factors going into the decision to create gw2, but this was high up on the list. I could literally write a novel about why Guild Wars 2 was the right call. Unfortunately the things we loved about Guild Wars were often the same things that led to the games decline. The expanded map in the form of continents created dead maps all throughout Tyria. The entirely player driven economy without any moderated auction house led to harsh economic swings and cities whose chats were swallowed by endless spam. Look, I seriously hate to be the guy taking digs at Guild Wars, it was my fucking childhood and I love it with a passion, but lets not pretend that Guild Wars 2 isn't the better game. I personally say all the time that Guild Wars was the greatest game ever for its time. Unfortunately, its time is up and a game launched in 2012 (GW2) is better than a game launched in 2005 (GW)
The warrior armor CAN be dedicated. It's the only dwarf set that can, but you probably know this by now.
The end of GW brought me to tears. Was a perfect ending.
Guild Wars still lives!
@Wotttts
Woah! Someone who watched who never played? Awesome.
Awesome.
@ThatDude1965
Thanks very much!
Woo took me 9 months to go through the whole series again lmao
I miss this game so much and its gameplay it brings tears to my eyes the skills the solos the quests GW2 really ruined freedom out of the game I miss how you could single handedly wipe a whole map out solo and walk away with your loot not loot others got the same thing and the same way and you exactly need a party to enter a dungeon this game should have never died out and started up again with such a shytty system to try and bring its old playerbase back Nostalgia or not I still get images.
Says to stay on the hardened lava.... stays with all the heroes in the lava ;) typical woodenpotatoes? :P
That focus in GW2 called Adam is Eve's Adam?
Final thoughts: Peter Redhill is such a bastard. As a single soul he saw the destruction of ascalon. He reconquered Rin. Lead all the refugees over the mountains, fought an entire nation, bested an entire race (the forgotten), ascended, assaulted a fortress killing both stone summit and mursaat after which he assaulted the most heavily fortified stronghold in tyria (fire island chain) and defeating a lich. All by himself (and an imp). (and still died less than tom) ;)
Where did we _first_ meet him?
@BogusDudeGW
Yeah very true.
Daaawh thanks! Maybe we'll do an homage at some point :D
At 35 minutes in you say that the scepter of orr can actually control the dead. Personally I am not so sure that it can. I think it is said in a mission somewhere that it can, but maybe that was misinformation of those character. The thing is that the White Mantle had it for quite some time but never showed signs of controlling the undead. The vizier ofcourse had it and did summon and control undead minions. But was that because of the scepter? Of was it because he was the lich?
so.. Are you saying we have to go to the episode in the eye of the north LP or we have to go to prophecies LP for charlie?
