    If you're looking for more information about missing loved ones, there's a group on Facebook called 'What's up Saint Thomas?' that has a list of those who have checked in and have been found. You can also post for those that you're trying to find.

    Looking for Sydnee Brown. Last known location was 2C-2 Crown and Hawk. Near Botanical Gardens and Plantation Manor. If anyone is in the area please see if there's any information you can on Sydnee. Her mother is extremely worried.

    Jesus, I hope everyone is ok!! Thought somehow it would have been even worst ,, if that's possible. Did St. Thomas get a direct hit?? Looks devastated, will take years to fix all this!! Anybody have any news from st.john??? Would appreciate!! God bless you down there!!! The calvery is on the way !!!! Just hang tight for a bit longer!!

    Not too bad on the destruction part, but bad enough. These Islands have hurricanes and build accordingly. The rumored sustained wind speed of 180+ mph...did not hit full force from appearances.

      I beg to differ, this is probably just after the storm and in a location that doesn’t have much infrastructure.

    Wow lots of debris but buildings are still standing strong.

    • @Birdnerd1968
      @Birdnerd1968 Před 7 lety +6

      Lyte42 that's because most buildings in the VI use reinforced concrete block or poured concrete. We don't build with wood like the mainland states because we're used to being hit. Plus this is downtown -the oldest settled area. Some of those buildings (the Catholic Church in the distance) are from the 1800s and are made with reinforced brick.

      I put the link for a lady on Facebook. She's been updating the hotel info. Not everyone has even heard from loved ones yet. I only heard from my mom an hour ago. 3 days no contact. The hotels aren't going to be able to make assessments now on future vacation plans. Right now the important thing is locating survivors and notifying family of the deceased.
      Yes a number of people have died.
      No way you're going on your vacation. Some hotels have already announced closure for 6 months. The islands won't have electric up for months and likely not before 2018 for large parts of it. The stores took hits so no food.
      The tourist areas will be focusing on having the workers safe first.

      Michael Williams I have no footage but my sis says northside took the lesser of the hit...

    • @Birdnerd1968
      @Birdnerd1968 Před 7 lety

      Alexis Lucas the North side and in particular the North East took the hardest hit. Not the lesser hit!!
      I've got family there and friends and former students. I haven't been able to reach my mom or family. Some students lost their roof. Others are ok. Others people haven't been able to reach.

      Wait till it's not hurricane season. We have family who are locals on the island, and they thought it would be fine, now three quarters of our family from the mainland are stuck there till they can fly out.

      StraitClownin909 These Islands go a long time without electricity, running water, phone service. It took 6 months for electricity to come back after Hurricane Hugo. And there will be a lot of bacteria in the sea. Not an ideal vacation. You won't be able to take showers or flush toilets. Food will be scarce.

    • @Birdnerd1968
      @Birdnerd1968 Před 7 lety +1

      StraitClownin909 nooooooo. I've lived through Hugo and Marilyn. No electricity for MONTHS. Stores are damaged or destroyed. No food, no phones, etc. Your hotel might have generators but then what will you do- you can't get around, there will be curfews, places you would normally visit would be damaged and not open.
