  • Drone footage taken over Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday morning shows the widespread damage and destruction after a series of powerful tornadoes swept through the city and other parts of Tennessee.
    At least 19 people were killed according to authorities, who expect that number to rise given the number of people who remain missing statewide, Governor William Lee said at a news briefing.

Its a scary moment in ones life when you have something so powerful created by nature pass a couple of miles away from you and see tear everything in its path. But we have overcome tragedies before and this is no different. Our City will be restored and we'll show what the Volunteer States means to us. I hope everyone is doing better. Bad weather affects *everyone.* The strength of a community is shown by how they help one another in times of crisis that affects them all. If you do a bit of searching, you will find loads of video clips and photos showing people of all races working together to cleanup after the tornado, churches of all denominations reaching out to help more than just their own congregations. I'm sorry that you've not seen that example elsewhere, but it IS how we are here in Nashville and in most of Tennessee, believe it or not.

      Nothing can prepare you for the feeling of hopelessness that brings you when you don't know what's going on, if you're gonna be safe, if you're gonna lose everything. Its very haunting and I nearly had a panic attack. especially when the tornado kept barreling toward the area that I live.

    • @ahe79
      @ahe79 Před 4 lety +5

      Anna Burgdorf
      There is NOTHING wrong with being grateful you don’t have to be homeless and stay in shelters, hotels, or with others for months. To shower in your own home, sleep in your own bed. Relax in your own space after a hard day’s work. Or what to do with your pets if your home is destroyed? That is, if the pets even survived.
      There is NOTHING wrong with being grateful that you have all your childhood pictures and that of your own children and other sentimental items.
      There is NOTHING wrong with a person being grateful that all of the things they own, that represent HOURS and HOURS of labor (over the course of many years) in order to acquire, are intact. We don’t take our stuff with us when we die, but while alive, might as well enjoy what you exchanged for your time end effort.
      And a house safe, means whatever food they have can still feed them. Especially for those who have spent time building up food storage for an unforeseen need in the future. (Such as illness, injury, job loss, economic recessions, etc.) And perhaps, life saving medicine or devices that keep them or their loved ones alive is untouched.
      No, a selfish based materialism isn’t a good thing. But we live in a physical world, and a person should not be shamed for enjoying any part of it. People’s lives and the health of all life on earth is much more important, we can all agree. But it doesn’t make a person’s home irrelevant. Are you really going to shame someone for being appreciative for their blessings/good fortune and humbled by this tragedy?
      I live an hour from Nashville, and my brother and his family live less than a mile from the tornado’s path. They woke to sirens and were terrified. When I woke up to learn of what happened, they were my first thought. They didn’t have power, therefore no WiFi, which made cell service spotty. So they couldn’t get back to me right away. I was anxious and worried, as those 17 minutes seemed like an eternity!
      I am BEYOND grateful they are all okay, and my sister in law’s extended family in the area as well. But I am so happy for them that they do not now have to go through the arduous and emotional task of sifting through debris, dealing with an overwhelmed insurance company, and being displaced. Not to mention the psychological turmoil the children would experience from being uprooted, while still needing to eventually attend school. They did lose food due to the power outage. And stayed in a hotel overnight. But that is very little compared to so many others.
      Speaking of school, one of their son’s friends lost his school. So many kids will now likely be (I imagine) bused in to various schools, with longer commutes, and kids they don’t know, teachers they don’t know, possibly in classes that are not the same, or at the same point. (We have block scheduling in the local HS, but other schools around here have regular. Which means we finish a subject in a semester, rather than a year.) Middle/high school is hard enough as it is, without such complications.
      My bro and SIL and kids will be volunteering to help with cleanup in their community. And I’m thinking of taking my kids to go do the same. We have such full schedules, but need to find room to go up. Though I know they will need help for a long time, not just this weekend. Our school is collecting bottled water to send for those in need. And I know others schools, churches and groups will be doing similar things.
      I’ve had a close call myself a couple decades ago. It is scary, to say the least. I just can’t believe someone could look at gratitude for making it through unscathed, house and all, as a negative thing. Maybe you should think more deeply about things in the future before you cast such judgments. The OP didn’t say anything wrong.

      City17.76 I apologize but this is a very arrogant comment for several reasons, and I’m speaking from someone (myself) who lives in Tornado Alley. We can’t just section off part of the U.S because tornadoes hit more frequently from time to time. What about other areas, such as California with earthquakes and wildfires, or Florida and Texas with Hurricanes? Natural disasters happen, no matter where you live. Tornadoes are very hard to predict, and these videos only show the worst of it. People think living in these areas means you’re constantly bombarded by tornadoes and have to get in the shelter constantly. It’s just not like that. The odds of getting a direct hit, even while living here, are still very very small considering tornadoes may only leave a 2 mile wide path at the very most. Contrary to popular belief, EF-4 and EF-5 tornadoes are very rare. Over 90% of tornadoes are EF-0 to EF-2 strength, and most just land in small farm fields. There’s many benefits to living in the Midwest or the South, it is very beautiful and very rural, and ALL people have a much higher chance of dying from cancer or heart disease than getting struck by tornadoes or lightning

      Нашли кому соболезновать.Может стоит пособолезновать остаткам индецев в резервациях или жителям Хиросимы с Нагосаки.Пособолезнуйте ещё семье Рокфеллеров где Дэвид сдох. Пусть все пожнут что сеяли,с процентами.Да будет так.
