I love that Maria is walking around exploring and having her voice lines, she doesn't feel like your typical companion that's just chasing you
elizabeth in bioshock columbia did that too. there were lil invisible triggers that caused her to do stuff. great idea. but columbia is like 12yrs old or such
@@angiewall5667 To clarify I never said the new Maria invented that lol
She'll probably say "hey, look at this" right next to a key item or puzzle solution, completely removing any exploration and discovery of your own 🫤
@@leek5682you're right
HOT TAKE: I didn't have an issue with the radio section, in FACT I like how it fixes a glaring issue of the original IMO: It makes more sense to find it by accident in an abandoned house while exploring, rather than in a random closed-off tunnel in the middle of the day, where James enters and doesn't see the OBVIOUS monster in frame while taking a look of the radio, and for some reason this doesn't make James run away to save his life. He isn't cornered at all, and he is forced to fight the monster in order to trigger the distorted radio voice cutscene. This makes more sense. And the way he grabs the wood plank? He could have reacted a little more scared and cowardly, I'll give you that.
If they put the radio in the same spot, the game would be exactly the same as the original. They have to make some changes in order to make it interesting.
Eh, I can agree but I also disagree. I also think it's true that in the OG the lying figure's presence and shape are too evident to be ignored. In that case (as in many others), I can concede it because the game and the underlying concepts involve "dreamy" behaviors and a constant state of low consciousness. The whole game is filled with actions and choices that don't really make sense - situations that would normally shout "run away" into your ear. Normally it also wouldn't make sense to crawl over a blood trail, to go inside a hole leading to a dark area. Survival Horror games in general and Silent Hill in particular are not dealing with sound decisions from the MC, whatever the reason. The radio in the house is just that, a radio in a house. No worse, no better than the OG set. At most I would say that's a more realistic (and probably less symbolic) situation.
The point is that it was supposed to be WEIRD. Things aren't supposed to make sense in Silent Hill.
SH2 is a surrealist game. If you consider this and the implicated symbolism it makes a lot more sense to find it in a random closed off tunnel in the middle of the day. Finding it it an abandoned house is such a generic horror moment it makes me roll my eyes into eternity.
I like this change. I’m actually looking forward to this as a new experience now.
I love that little jaw movement James does when he’s speaking to Laura about needing to get something. Shows how he’s frustrated subtly
I saw that too. Freakin good touch on the mocap
And I've seen people call the face animation bad already, that entire scene told me otherwise.
I'm shocked no one else commented on how good the facial capture is.
It's like those CGI movies used in intros or trailers.
1:02:14 I sort of get what you mean but the reason he looks so weird when holding it because he’s awkward and Scared Because he’s never been in a situation like this and doesn’t know how to fight
“The flashlight is too bright for me” LOL
no matter how good the game turns out to be, if you're already in that mindset, you won't enjoy anything
Yeah, alot of silent hill 2 fans are just looking for any petty excuse to complain. Very toxic fanbase
@@danielpeckham5520 maybe because it was clearly stated in the beginning that it stays faithful to the original while it is not ? maybe because bloober said that it's a remake while in reality it's a reboot which is nothing that the original game provided. not claustrophobic, lights are everywhere, and you can see perfectly without lights, monsters aren't attracted to light, the lack of emotions is awful. if they would call this project a reboot, I would accept it, but calling it faithful to the original & remake is pretty much numb, and deluded.
@@bombastik_bomb lack of emotions? Like the original?
@@PetrifyingPumpkins in the original the emotions were present, james was not emotional in specific dialogues while every other character had emotions. I don't know if you even played the OG, and actually kept attention to details, and the voice tones, but the difference is astonishingly dull in the remake with everyone, and my friends who never played the original watched a comparison with the OG, and felt it how numb & bland the remake is
The lying figure here felt staged? Meanwhile the og has you walk into a dedicated alley where it's just standing in the background waiting to be called upon and that's not staged?
Yeah that was a silly knee jerk reaction the encounter is perfectly fine
This is exactly what I was thinking as he said it. So little focus on the good but the microscope it out looking for any potential negative and then not really giving a tangible explanation why. Why is Angela's face bad? Why is the way James holds the plank bad exactly? Did he even mention how the inventory system seems much improved?
It's tiresome. It was tiresome with Demon's Souls, it's also tiresome with MGS3 not having a piss filter.
Ugh god don't get me started on the idiots complaining about Demon's Souls. "The Music is too good! The graphics aren't bad enough! The demons have too much detail!"
Fucking obnoxious 'purists' who see any change, however minuscule, as bad, and the sign of inferiority.
It was good, until the monster showed up breaking everything. Don't mind a change or two, but that definitely felt different from the original. Not as subtle as the original.
Though it still has a few positives compared to the original such as finding the radio in a place thay makes sense to begin with, the plank of wood too.
@@mrplayfulshade1038 Yeah, it was a silly knee jerk reaction. I admit it.
The little detail that james clumsily bumps into the medical table when trying to back of laura god they nailed him ao well. as much as i miss the old first encounter I’m happy they are changing things because while i want to feel the old game I want something new to shock me in a good way.
Side note the monster crawls into the window when you’re getting the key out of the drain meaning the monsters will roam into rooms making clearing them very important
I hate having to keep editing this comment.
But with the different endings i hope the more monsters you kill affect the outcome.
I can't wait to watch, "Silent Hill 2 Remake (4k60fps) - aggressive gameplay/no damage/Silent Hill difficulty" on YT when the game releases.
On god

Maria was in the same scene as Laura in the hospital. Wasn't she never seen in a cutscene with another character? She doesn't go into the bowling alley because that's where Laura and Eddie are, and I thought that was a hint that she wasn't real.
She chased after Laura after she left the bowling alley
That can still be the case as long as no one other than James mentions her
@@DjCrispyFingers She claimed she chased Laura. That was never actually shown.
I mean Laura never notices her besides this is Maria “IM NOT YOUR MARY” so either way Laura wouldn’t recognize her
This stuck out to me too. Laura doesn't see any monsters, Maria IS a monster, that's why Maria avoids everybody but James.
It’d be interesting for people trying to get the in water ending, when examining the knife, they show James’ reflection and him kind of blankly/longingly looking at the knife
I miss the days when outrage bait didn't rule CZcams content and fans of things could just be chill.
Me too, man.
As a consumer I want to know if a game is bad more than good because of my wallet
@@maxderrat game is rubbish, original is better.
I miss the days when you could make legitimate complaints about a game without it being labeled outrage bait.
The animations are great. Folks seem to remembering the janky ass original with rose tinted glasses
the Konami guy has the same vibe as one of those terrorist kidnapping victim videos, you can almost see the AK 47s slightly off camera to the side.
Well, is konami
1:01:55 I don't understand this complain. James isn't a fighter, that's the point. He's meant to look like an inexperienced kid holding a weapon.
What I don't like about this scene, though, is the transition from cutscene to gameplay. The cut is jarring, they should've gone for a seamless transition instead.
To be fair, this is the first time Angela actually looked 19 rather than 27...
she was meant to look older in the original to highlight the effects of trauma in aging the body, according to the making of
@@Sena_ttveither way works tbh. Some people age differently with trauma so this version of her I don't mind too much
N wasn't she originally 17? Did I hear they aged her up in HD remaster?
The face is so different thpugh, but more important than that is the acting.
@@docthefaust4519 As far as I read they settled with 19 in Book of Memories. But I have to admit I didn't played it.
Ngl, I did not expect them to nail the weirdness combined with modern animations and graphics so well.
As a transmission I will say it was pretty okay actually. I'm still very cautious on the remake and I do want it to succeed obviously, I think it'll be for the best to keep expectations low so the final product can surprise us if it's good. There's stuff I'm picky about, but it is looking better.
replay the OG and compare it with this gameplay. it is nothing like the source material. it's just another reimagined bloober bs with no respect for source material.
24:29 How is this more staged than the OG? Where the game’s linearity points you to a random fenced-off hole in the wall that James had no reason to explore, this makes way more sense now
Hmm... this is a good point! Thank you for leaving your thoughts!
Imo, the camera work isn't as good as the original and having the first monster be in a brightly lit room instead of a dark cramped underpass robs it of a lot of the fear of the unknown they posses.
24:08 James sunderland gyatt
I’m convinced silent hill fans don’t even like silent hill. I think this looks awesome
No, only the annoying ones, like in any fanbase. Im a diehard SH fan and have been for almost 30 yrs now, but I agree, all of the bitching drives me insane.
Awesome is a bit much, lets not go the other extreme either. It looks good, i think it just lacks the artistry and subtetly of the original (which might not be perfect but still a work of art which this remake does not look to even come closer so far) and the camera angle adds to the kinda "generic" i get from this remake.
THe PS 2 cutscenes and in game models look better than this and the gameplay is meh. The only thing good is the enviroment and ambient noises. Alsot eh character designs and partly monster designs go against in game lore and symbolism. Nurses are less sexuale, Maria is an office lady without confidence, Angela just looks weird and the voice acting is questionable since they all sound bored. As far as we have seen only Laura is okay but her ponytail has no movement at all and looks like it is glued on her head. Makes me wonder how they will handle Edy. Pretty womena re a big no but an obese violent white male should be fine.
Regarding James he looks wierd, too but I can't point out exactly what is uncanny about him.
A lot of them aren’t even fans of the game
Just people who parrot the opinion of “it’s the best game ever” because everyone says it
@@BlackCroft666Do you really think the gameplay was that good in the original? It's much better now, if it wasn't for the stiff animations
The scene where Laura is on the wall looks edited. They definitely cut out the first half of that scene cuz James is suddenly 3 feet closer to her
James' hair in the movie made me think of Leon in the latest Resident Evil movie. It's like, no matter how far from the original look they go, these dudes will still share their barber, non-negotiable 😂
The main thing that bothers me is why is Maria interacting with Laura? (In the staircase scene)
In the original, she is always one step behind Laura, always missing their interactions. (refusing to go into the bowling alley, just missing her as Laura exists the alley, etc.) It's implied that because Maria is a creation of the town, she is only viewed by James, just like his monsters. Eddie sees his monsters, Angela sees her monsters, and through Maria, we see that these manifestations avoid crossing paths. Which is why when James tells Laura that it's not safe (even in this demo video), Laura is confused as to what he's talking about. Unlike Eddie and Angela, we never get to see how SH looks to Laura, but it's clear she doesn't see any monsters, which is WHY Maria never interacts with her. This is a bit of subtlety that I think Bloober missed. And this could've been very easy to do in that staircase scene in the demo, by having Maria one step behind, where maybe after Laura runs up the steps, that's when Maria would come through the door behind James.
To be fair Laura didn't reciprocate any interaction specifically back to Maria. So from James' POV maria is calling out to laura but from Laura's POV shes just running from james. Also she doesn't look back when Maria says "There!" but gets startled at the door closing a second later
@shanegale6143 fair point. But even still, this kind of interferes with the two schools of thought on how the town works.
In one camp, it's all in people's heads, and in the other, it's real, and manifesting as needed.
I'm in the 2nd camp, as it explains away how James is able to dive deep underground in the Labyrinth and such.
Them being in a scene together kind of works against the idea that Maria is in real space, and gives more credibility to the imaginary theory.
I'd prefer it to leave them both open ended.
Well, what about waiting for the remake to come out and find out?
@@hollerncraft I believe it can work still. James is living a reality where Maria is just as alive as Laura, so he can see and interact with both in the same room, but they can't interact with each other, as Maria is a manifestation of James, so she can understand and ackowledge the world he is seeing, but people can't interact with his own creations. At the same time, don't forget that SH "rules" can be very convoluted: not only characters can see their own personal manifestations of horror, but can also interact with others' (Alessa's monsters for Harry, Angela's Abstract Daddy and Eddie's version of SH that James can see).
They weren't interacting with each other at all, lmao
I'll be avoiding combat unless its the boss fights. I don't like the animations unfortunately. However, the cutscenes are absolutely mind blowing, and the environments are bloody perfect.
I would say that combat is the way it is because they want to bring a modern audience along for the ride.
yeah, the combat animation is lacking
@@serbukmomogi the same could absolutely be said for the original as well. personally i think the distance between the original and the remake is necessary.
I kill everything in a horror game as policy so I'm fine with it. I like my hallways like I like my sky; clear.
This ain’t Resident Evil. In the end, 80% of the game will be interacting with its inhabitants via combat. Combat is a must.
The animations look like stock Unreal Engine assets unfortunately.
silent hill fans have so much ptsd from recent games, they can't enjoy anything anymore
game looks good man, just chill
I'm excited. Especially how that Abstract Daddy scene looked. I really hope the game adds to the story in ways the original couldn't but even so, it looks entertaining.
James crawls through a trail of blood just like Leon in REmake2.... They're both really stupid.
it works more for James at least james is mentally ill while leon is a cop
It's the blonde genes
He resembles to lying figures.
Explains why theyre blondes /j
I accept all of your theories as canon. XD
This is really looking good. Angela needs some work maybe but a solid 7.5/10 compared to the first reveal. I think it really has the tone and Bloober are listening to the feedback we are giving! Good job. Lets wait till one last reveal and then maybe I'll think about buying it. I'm nearly convinced!
Won’t be any fixing the game is pretty much finished you saw the release date lol 4 months
@@anarche4900 I don't think you realize how developing a game works with an entire studio. 4 months can get you a lot done.
@@anarche4900 By all we know, this build we saw could be 8 months old. They can patch a lot of stuff in a few months. Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077
7.5? Lmao
I think you can do a lot in 4 months. Bloober seems to have listened to the fan feedback before as well. I'm cautious but optimistic...I think they can do it and make some changes. I just hope it performs well on PC ...its not some disaster or a resource hog like Hellblade 2.
this presentation totally sold me. beyond hyped. looks fantastic.
Nice to see an optimistic person for a change
ugh
Agreed! I'm so sick of everyone nitpicking everything about this remake. If they're so upset about it, idk, maybe just... don't buy it? Not that hard lol. I'll be picking it up day one 100%.
Big problem is looking at just straight gameplay that jumps around with no context makes the material and encounters have no impact. Right now it looks like I'm looking at some sort of work in progress video of a kickstarter campaign. But hey visuals look on point and some of the composition and camera angles of the cutscenes look pretty rad
I don't see most people liking the combat or a few other aspects of this remake, but I'm almost 53 and have played Silent Hill 2 In it's many incarnations, for over 20 years, I like what I see! No Angela was Supposed to be 19, believe it or not.
I think my suspicions were correct about if a remake isn't EXACT in every single way, hardcore fans won't be satisfied. Just by redesigning how you get the radio in the tutorial already made you upset.
You might want to stick to playing the original if you don't want a remake.
Hmm... well, I do want a remake, and if you listen closer to the end, you'll hear me say that I was very pleasantly surprised.
@@maxderrat I know that you said there was more good than bad. But some things that you were upset at confused me, and made me wonder if it was just because it was different.
For example, when they said they wanted to make the combat faithful to the original, yet satisfying for modern audience, you felt it was a bad choice, but I think the opposite.
The combat in the original was part of the horror, because you didn't fight well. So fighting was only a last resort. But part of that was just because it was bad combat. The controls and general feel of combat wasn't good, as most would say.
But making the combat satisfying, while retaining the challenge/risk by making resources limited and enemies effective keep the horror in the combat.
Maybe I got the wrong impression, but whenever I hear someone react with great disappointment to combat or radio introduction being changed, even if combat is improved and the radio introduction gives more build up and more of the town to see, it makes me feel like it's better to keep it exactly the same to avoid those reactions.
I agree with you. Max is nitpicking small changes without any logic.
@@maxderrat Also, no. You don't want a remake.
A remake is not a remaster, meaning there would be changes. Black Mesa wasn't 1:1 with Half Life, and the Resident Evil remakes weren't 1:1 with the originals either.
So changes to combat, certain moments, and what you see of the town would be changed.
If you want things to be exactly the same, like any hardcore fan does, you can just play the original.
Some people are totally black-pilled and will complain about anything and everything. But you know what, I'm really pleased with what I'm seeing so far. Some of the animation (particularly the mouths when the characters are speaking) and textures could definitely use some polish. I'm actually okay with the new faces: James looks better than the original trailers, Maria looks good (you can tell they adapted the voice actors' faces a bit), Laura looks less doll-like, and although Angela is different, I have no issues with her (in the original, she looked quite a bit old, and in this remake she looks more age-appropriate if a bit "doughy" /fuller. SH2 is emblematic of a time and place, so nothing will dethrone it, and I can nitpick dozens of things, but with a bit of distance that can be overlooked to enjoy the game for what it is -- but I'm looking forward to the remake, and who am I kidding, I'll be buying it regardless. This feature makes me more optimistic.
24:01 i wish for that scene was a line like 'There is a blood on the floor and small opening which i can get trough. Would you crouch trough the blood pool?'
yes\yes
Excellent video as always Max, still my go-to Silent Hill fan, and I've been a fan of this series since 2002. I think there's still some jank in the animations, and while the combat does look better, it still has me worried. I feel like part of that could be due to the animations tho. However, it is good on Bloober that they've actually taken fan feedback into account and fixed many concerns so hopefully they keep up on that. Im curious to see how the combat actually works based on them saying you have to "adjust your playstyle to win" and all. The camera is another thing that worries me but.. i dunno how you could fix it either. It just feels.. too close, but if you moved it further back it might alter the claustrophobic feel they seem to be shooting for.
Having said that, I'm still remaining cautiously optimistic. It feels like there's been so much negative lately that we can't allow ourselves to enjoy something positive or even just be excited.
That's not to say we should accept mediocrity either lol. However, I feel it's okay to be hopeful and excited to a degree, as this is SOMETHING, and it's already looking better than that.. Silent Hill Ascension abomination. I do like what I see, and if this game is at least an 8/10, that's good enough for me.
I’ll wait for reviews for SH2. Probably yours and a few others in the SH community. But I am impressed on how it looks graphically and the gameplay honestly looks pretty good over the summer they can definitely tweak a few things so I’m hopeful
In my opinion, it´s exaclty what SH fans deserve
@@Gui-jx3sdI know I’ll enjoy it. Everything combat aside looks amazing. We got some months anyway so I have hope
What do you mean "too staged"? It's a video game.
I liked how Max was selling people on The short message, it's not that good, but you won't COMPLETELY regret your time with it
I want to be excited about this, but having beat it 20+ years ago, idk… it’s great to see the enhanced visuals though and I’m sure it will be great for everyone who hasn’t played it yet.
I actually want to play the remake, this looks iconic as fuck
@@lf3552 haha yeah I mean I’ll likely end up getting it again… I still have the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions
I like that you actually see James draw on the map now. That could totally screw you over if there are enemies around though.
I kinda didn't like the way Maria looked. I know it can come off as cheesy that her appearance is a reference to Christina Aguilera. Christina Aguilera is known for her song Genie in a bottle. Maria was born from a wish (even her own game tells it). Not that it matters to the gameplay, but those little things that have meanings to them, that took time and care from the creators of the original is what made it stand out for me. It's the little things that people don't usually see but its there anyways for anyone who gets it.
Get over it
@@huevex4525 this comment suddenly cured me and made me like it
Maria is challenging in her look due to the times.
She's suppose to come off as a sexuial trap for the player. 20 years is a big gap in what people find attractive.
Maria kinda has to adapt for her to be lore accurate. She's really ment to temp the player not the character
Bro, they saw RE4R’s gameplay last year & did a whole U-turn, only to come back with making James look like Leon. I’m not mad at the gameplay at all tho. I just hope they add extras, drop a DLC of Born from a wish & secret endings. You know, something worth $70.
I will own up to the fact that i preordered the deluxe edition. No matter what I'm gonna play it to make my own opinions so i may as well play it 2 days early

@@exetone No, I can afford it, believe me. The problem is to go head-straight into it mindlessly believing Konami of all, after everything they did
People get pissed about every little detail, I think it looks fine, combat is a little stiff but so was in every SH game. Most important thing is atmosphere which looks great. Also they have to change a little some things around for some unpredictability, what is the point of remake if everything is 1:1. Then just do a remaster at that point.
I am looking forward to the game! The only concern I have is how it will run, because the FPS looks very rough.
As I myself am Autistic as well Max I absolutely love your channel. I love your deep dives on the physiological aspect of the silent hill mythos. I will always be a faithful fan of your. Never stop amazing Silent Hill content. I will always stay subbed to your channel as your insights on the game have true weight to it and you do it justice.

My biggest problem so far is it’s too bright which really takes from the scariness. Just board and cover the windows like the original
Maybe they bumped up the brightness for the presentation, I'm sure you can change the setting for it in game.
The downward attack animation when enemies are prone looks a little stiff.
One thing I’m not wild about though is how James isn’t physically taking the maps from the walls anymore, and instead there seems to be like a display full of maps in the hospital which is a bit silly.
However, I am very impressed with the VA they chose for James. It would be very hard to recapture that Lynchian aspect of the acting from the original so I think they ended up finding a good middle ground.
All in all, much better than what was shown previously.
As a very long time silent hill fan that trailer was good everyone can have their nitpicks
But that doesn't change the fact we're home bois 🥺😭
I actually teared up a little bit Because I really liked what I saw!! even if I won't be playing it because idk if I'm even buying a current gen console
You can never have too much Chipotle
I think James' hair color is for the sole purpose of contrast when it comes to walking in heavily dark places since his whole suit has darker colors & which can fade in those dark areas.
James & Laura's initial hospital room conversation scene is a good example.
You know what? I'm in, acting is still off to the point that it still has a weird charm too it, but not sooo much that it feels like a parody of the OG's line delivery, gameplay looks good, visually it looks as good as the medium, and the dialogue is pretty much the same too, I mean... I'm hopefully optimistic.
One thing I've learned in the many gaming communities I've been apart of is that the ones driven by nostalgia will never be satisfied with a remake no matter how faithful it is to the original. Fans of these series aren't looking so much for a faithful interpretation of a beloved classic but more so looking to capture the feeling they had of that first playthrough. The harsh truth is we will never experience that again. The pain of nostalgia comes from the fact that the experience we cherish was the result of the intersection of a very specific time and place that will never come again. No matter how perfect the remake is we will never have that same feeling again. The more you look for it the more disappointed you will be. I instead hope for the remake to be a faithful interpretation of the original, not for myself, but for those out there who never played the original. I want them to feel what I felt then.
I really dislike that director saying his film adds an emotional layer to the horror that makes it more disturbing than the game as if emotional horror wasn't even present in the original
I'm pretty sure he was talking about the game when he said that. Or rather, he was talking about SH2 in abstract, meaning the emotional layer already existed in the game and he intends for it to be present in the movie as well.
film horror and game horror are different. silent hill is so starved of good content as it is. let him try and maybe itll be great
he was talking about in comparison to the first film
For me it doesn't feel like silent hill, I think it's missing something, but that doesn't mean the game is going to be bad.
To me, it lacks surreal and dreamy scenarios, interactions, and atmospheres so far. The fact that the fog is never intrusive and never surrounds James (except in certain cutscenes) but only appears in front of him as he walks doesn't help either. Of course, this is mainly due to the type of camera; the field of view would be terrible. Nonetheless, I'm sure it contributes to what I feel. We will see in any case.
probably maria will have the original outfit as a unlockable skin, easy fix and people need to chill about that, she looks good
That's what I thought too. I think it will be fine.
I know I'm huffing massive amount of copium, but Konami might be cooking with this one
I am excited! As a die hard fan I refuse to over critical. I appreciate hearing your opinions! You still see a silver r lining. And so do I. I think the art is excellent and loving the acting so far. It will take some time to get used to how they introduced lying figure, the original always scared me to death so freaking unpredictable to me but eh, I will survive. I’m tempted to preorder BUT I’m scared it will be pushed back to like March of 2025 then canceled and I lose all the money so nah…gonna wait
My boi James here went from depressed daddy to fucking chad Jamie Lannister
So they included the "fart face" line. But did they add the "pizza" line in the scene with Eddie. For the win 10/10.
That pipe hitting down animation is the worst animated melee move i've probably ever seen in any videogame of this generation. I'd just use the stomp at that point even if it does less damage.
Edit: i think i know why. They are using the same animations as the plank, least with that specific move, that's lazy af.
you're talking abosolute shite
Besides Angela's voice acting, it looks like an excellent retelling. What a relief after so much uncertainty with the prior trailers
Ok, partially convinced. Not 100% sold. Like 86% sold.
What is everyone's deal? Sh2 is my favorite game of all time. I am so psyched about this. The tiny stupid nitpicking that people are doing is literal insanity. Did they jump into the hole with James? Ive never heard this sort of vitriol with any other remake/remaster or anything. People need to get a grip.
The only problem i have is with the big circles indicating action on key items and events
If they're smart, they will have an option to disable all that stuff hopefully.
How the hell else are you supposed to know an item is near l.ao
@@mrplayfulshade1038 In the OG James would tilt his head towards an item or important interactible (doors for example) instead of having icons
@@faultyaxiom That works because of the tank controls and fixed camera angles. While that Is still in this REMAKE... trying to convey where and if an Item is interactable without some sort of prompt will annoy players. I mean you wouldn't play the last of us without that would you? Very similar item system there.
@@mrplayfulshade1038 Tank controls play nothing into this system. When I think about James' head moving I'm also thinking about the town. When in the town with the camera on his back, him looking at the items looked really fine. The items also have their own distinct loon to the point where the prompts just aren't needed my dude. This is not a general prescription. I want them to make it accessible to all players. But I also want them to make it "accessible" to people like me. Give me a setting to toggle it on and off and it's all good
The silent hill community is hilarious. Nothing is ever good enough.
how hard can be to add throwables in the game, like small stones one could be able to throw and break windows and enjoy in the bouncing sounds that thing could produce. You know, the sound of rock when hitting glass or metal plate or concrete. Maybe in a pool of water on the road. I don't know how this ideas comes to me mind but, sometimes some simple thing ingame can produce the glorious effect which came from playing the original.
Possible silent hill orgins had on PsP. I actually really enjoyed it! I’ve played through like 10 times. He can throw mundane items
Christopher Gans loving the original Team Silent games. That alone says alot.
To be fair... the way James acted and was holding the wood plank after he got it on the original wasn't great either. He was super casual about it, not afraid. I agree though in the remake, he looks he's getting ready to hit a home run. I was surprised at the new location for the radio... but to be honest I thought the way you found it in the original (and that whole fight) was kind of silly tbh. You do see the same location on the SOP trailer though.
This looks awesome to me, I'm excited and looking forward to the game and movie
Yeah, there are definitely some janky bits there. It was pretty noticeable: When James pulls the board off the window, he takes his eyes off it completely and moved smoothly like he knew it was going to pop off without hassle (and no overpull). He should have been glancing back and forth frantically or stumble if it really came off that easily.
Kinda hope that it's not the real radio/weapon acquiring scene and something they mocked up for the trailer. (But all in all there were good bits too, and they've still got some time to make adjustments, so worth keeping an open mind.)
Yeah, lots of little things like that makes me concerned that it's coming out this year. Not a good sign given a trailer is showing the best. It should be more polished this close to release. I hope they're not crunching people over at bloober
Not to mention the swapping animation, he just kinda polymorphs a whole gun into a piece of wood, there is no animation of him putting it away and equipping the melee weapon.
Do people not realize this game is not finished yet ?? They still have so much time to fix all these little issues by the time it’s released. People need to relax tbh
facts, but the SH fandom has been toxic as hell recent years
@@qinyima5693 every fandom is toxic.
@@kavid8120 well yeah I guess that's true
Truth. Before the less everything up and bloober and Konami scratch all together
Not much you can do about line delivery and somewhat strange facial design. But they could make combat animations better and get rid of QTE bs. Also an option to remove button prompts for picking up items from the UI would be a sign that they actually respect a player's ability to discover things for themself. If this game is a series of searching for button prompts then a major element of the original has been totally ignored
Sorry, I want a physical copy on release day. I'm definitely preordering. Not paying more to play two days early tho, in staying off the internet those two days lmao
Mary no longer staring at you in promo screen is something I don't understand, why did they change it?
We still don’t know if that is the whole beginning of the game. If it is, yes it’s like they cut off the introduction and just throw you there to the first “encounter”.
The game looks very promising to me. 8/10.
I dislike James’ girly hands more than James’ hair
The remake looks better than expected IMHO, some bits are a little janky, but the environments in particular look great overall. I'd give it a generous 8/10 at this stage based on what they've shown. Let's face it, all of us Silent Hill fans are going to play it regardless.
Max isn't into the merch which is totally fine, but for me I have to have those replica puzzle coins. I'm a sucker for 1/1 scale item replicas, I have a few RE things in that vein, but my SH collection is mostly statues and figues currently, so those coins are a must buy for me.
I really liked the first film, so I'm optomistic that they'll do a good job with this one. Thanks for the stream Max, stay yellow.
I wish the combat was slower actually. James could be swinging wider with more impact, that would be kinda cool
I have a really bad feeling that remake is going to be very toned down and not include any of the extra endings because from what I'm looking at here whether intentional or not this remake looks like it's going to have you going through a guided tour of Silent Hill too instead of getting lost in the town like the original game
In the interview they confirmed that there will be multiple endings. It's when he's talking about gameplay and he mentions "it will determine what ending you achieve"
The game looks gorgeous on PS5 and the film looks faithful to the source material this time around.. Damn near looking like it will be shot for shot.
And those players are boycotting it by saying how Angela became ugly judging by the grave scene urh
It sucks because all the issues seem majorly from the gameplay and choices, but honestly these two new trailers show the VAs are putting in a lot of work to this project. If Bloober fumbles this then I hope the VAs get recognition at the very least
What I will say, I am a new fan to this franchise and I actually pre-ordered the game. From what the transmission showed, I am very excited to play a new remake of a horror game that isn't Resident Evil. People are getting WAY to upset over this remake.
I like James looking like a schoolboy with the plank since that’s true to the narrative intention of the original scene. It would’ve been more overwhelming if it were set in the town outskirts like the OG, idk why they changed it, but the point that James is not a killer and does not fancy himself to be one is displayed there for new players, and arguably demonstrated better.
I like how James just pulls out a pipe from nowwheres and stores it nowwheres.
Max, you resume very well how we feel! Nice =)
The pickup sound is missing!! Nooooo😭
It's still there just sounds different
Tell me, how is James going to scribble on the map if he's holding it with both hands like that?
Soulless imposters don't get $70 from me. Especially not ones from Konami.
Gonna be honest, the melee animations and some of the creature visuals have me very worried.
The environments look great, and even the voice acting sounds really good, but as far as actual gameplay goes I'm not impressed...
They just need to port the old titles to modern consoles. So far not interested in the remake.
They certainly do need to do that. It's B.S. that they haven't yet.
Didn't Konami lose their source code of the three first games?
This video was copium brought to lofe
Is there still time to fix the sound of enemies when James wack them they make an unsettling kind of sound in the original in the remake they sound like a typical clicker from the last of us hope they can make another changes as fast and just in time for release
I'm excited as hell for this remake. I couldn't care less about all the whining and crying from everyone else. I've loved this series since I was 13 years old (I'm 28 this year) and I think this looks freaking amazing. Not perfect - there's room for some improvements for sure - but I'll still be buying it. For all the people bitching and moaning, just don't buy it. Problem solved.
I hate to be that guy, but this game looks inconsistent. In other areas it looks great, in some it looks bad. The animations look rough and the fps looks below 30 when you are exploring the town 😅 i hope they have the time to fix until release 😅
I wish I had a way of playing this game. I miss my ps2 copy that was lost and I can’t justify a ps5 for one game
I don't want a remake and probably won't play it but I'm fine with what I saw but the voice acting, while good, is just too normal and boring. The surreal, uncanny interactions between characters are totally lost here and there's no hint that there is anything off about Angela. I think it significantly changes the way the story is told and anyone new to Silent Hill who comes to this game first and then decides to play the original, is probably going to think that the original voice acting is just bad and weird and wasn't intended to be the way it is.
There are people who are never happy, unless they are unhappy. So disregard them. There is nothing that you can do to please them. But then on the other end of that spectrum, there are the poop sandwich people, who you could give them poop on bread, and call it a sandwich, and they will say thank you and eat it. Don't worry about them either, you can't displease them. But somewhere in-between them, is your target audience. The thing that I don't like about modern video games, is that the target audience is no longer the core audience. Our games have become so homogenized, that genres are barely a thing anymore. That's why every game now, has an over-the-shoulder camera, and generic action. Overall, the game looks great. I don't like the OTS action, but the rest looks good, except the pointless small character changes. It looks like it might be a fun 7/10. But hopefully they add in a classic camera mode, which I wish RE did, with those remakes. But oh well.
I really don't like the color-grading and lighting of this. I don't think I've seen a horror game feel so not scary in a good while. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, but the bright splashes of color, the overall brightness etc completely misses the isolated sense of tension and dread that the environments of the original still inspires in me.
Bright color definitely can be used well in horror, but that wouldn't be sh2. The first game is so dirty, and desaturated. This definitely is a bit too clean, I don't even think it's much brighter than the original just not grimy and rusty enough
yea also i feel like it doesnt use enough blur to give it more of a dreamy ambient aesthetic like the og although that mightve had to do w the limitations
More excited for the movie than the remake tbh, it looks way better.
Only character model i think looks really good is Laura.
Looks good to me!
I don't mind the redesigns for the characters, I liked María and Laura here. Angela is... is.
The enviroments looked nice and the nurse catching the pipe was cool, so melee may not be overpowered and a solution to everything, if they force using guns and limit the bullets, that could work. Also breaking stuff to get items but alerting near creatures could be interesting.
I still don't like the camera tho.
All in all I was pessimistic, but now I'm a little closer to cautiosly optimistic.
What if there is a pachinko mini/station game in Silent Hill 2. Lol
