- Most people know Thierry Millet as “Monsieur Pep.” That’s because for the past 47 years, he has run a small business called Pep’s-the only umbrella repair shop in France (and quite possibly all of Europe). Inside this tiny store, Millet has dedicated his life to keeping Parisians dry and shaded-to the tune of 10,000 umbrellas, sunshades and canes repaired each year. To be a good umbrella repairman, you need to be patient, observant and handy, Millet says. And after watching him work his magic, it’s hard not to appreciate the craft and love that goes into his truly unique line of work.

Opening umbrellas indoors is not a bad omen because this guy is lucky to be happily working for nearly 50 years :D
Philip you know when you think about it literally opening an umbrella inside the house could knock something over or poke someone in the eye as the space is so small
Philip aaaaaaand right after this video he went bankrupt :'(
no
he didn't, where did u hear that
اكتشف معنا At least make a reasonable lie lmao. The store has been opened for 47 years. How dafuq did it get bankrupt suddenly? Sheesh
Lemonade i think it was a joke
I want to fall asleep to the sound of a pleasant french man telling me about fixing umbrellas
Right click on the video, then press 'loop'. You're set.
Another idea for a Miyazaki movie.
Roy keane Lol, I was just thinking it would make for a great anime concept
lmao, i dont know. Not very. adventurous but it could work. a person with a magic history comes in with a magic umbrella and they go on a magic journey.
Zwei Universe A bit different than what I was thinking, but it could work I guess...
Sounds too similar to Kiki Delivery Service + Howl's Moving Castle.
Actually....
Not bad. I can see that.
This was a great joy to shoot, I passed Pep's almost every day for years and wanted to tell his story. GBS was certainly the right platform!
There are so many beautiful and curious things in this world. Thanks for showing all these to us! This video in particular was very sweet and interesting.
pauline • k
he seems so content ,happy with what he does 💟
His voice is so soft.He could work as a storyteller in movies
If it ever rains cats and dogs, he'll be the only survivor
Jeremy Er he will make a fortress
..out of handmade umbrellas
My broken umbrella is what brought me here and I dont want to get a new one my Mom gave it to me so it has more value and its true theres so many memories and stories that comes with an umbrella , it warms heart knowing how much he loves his work and how passionate Monsieur Pep is I hope I get to go there soon and visit his shop. May God bless him
I am going to explain why we say "don't open an umbrella indoors, it's bad luck" actually, this was invented by umbrella sellers who did not want that the customers try the umbrella in the shop, so even if the umbrella was broke he could sold it anyway.
Sorry for my English, greetings from France !
I always thought it was to prevent kids from opening them at home and knocking things over
his voice is so soothing I could listen to him talk about umbrellas all day.
I visited Paris when my umbrella broke down. Why didn't I hear of him before?
BHuang92 you wont exactly know it since you have just reached Paris, so it will take a while before you know it.
I miss this channel dearly. They find so many lovely stories to tell.
Congrats Pep’s on 50 years!
That moment when you speak both French and English and still read the subtitles
my french is not even good
daniel bueno Im french but i read the subtitles 😂😂
Someone I can relate to :D
SAME! Why do we do this? 🙈
This is such a sweet and humbling job, what a happy man
This is Why I Love Lé Pàrîs
I like his soft quiet speaking
His voice is legendary.
What an incredible channel! Kudos to the creators. Precise and concise. Binge!
what a heart warming story. Please continue mending umbrellas. I hope you get an apprentice. Thank you for saving our beautiful world from a throw-away mentality, one umbrella repair at a time.
Those umbrellas are so beautiful, I've always wanted a lovely one
I wish I can be his apprentice cuz srsly this work is so underrated, it's dyinggg
Such a sweet and warm man!
I also love umbrellas so this man lovingly talking about umbrellas is relatable
what a peculiar passion. makes me happy
"It's harder to repair cheaper things"
Well that explains the Kardarshians.....
This world is full of such amazing people whom i have yet to meet or know 💕
I'm happy and contented just by seeing the shop at 0:25 . I just love it...
His job is super cool and so does he !!!
My red/black check umbrella just arrived today, it's one of my faves.
Beautiful. I lose all my umbrellas before they get old...
Ohwow!!!! The passion👍🏼💜
I hope this business survive the pandemic, and his story is perfect inspiration for Ghibli anime
How lovely!!
wow his voice sounds amazing
He needs his own Pixar short film
He must have a whole century of bad luck😂
It's okay. Every time he opens an umbrella, his bad luck resets and only accumulates at the end of his life when he finally dies.
Ryuu Never heard of that superstition. It'll only apply to those who believe it.
LagiNaLangAko23 Why would it make him obviously Asian? It's also a very common superstition in France!
The superstition arose with Victorian era umbrellas which were made from much bulkier materials. It was thought that you'd inevitably knock things over or destroy glassware etc. that was sitting on shelves if you opened your umbrella indoors. So the superstition came about as a deterrent to prevent people from doing so.
I am learning something in this trend.... love it...
it is just beautiful and inspiring.
so true my umbrella is kinda old its been 5 years already since o started using it. and idk but i feel like its very special for me.
I'm glad you finally reached a milly💯💯💯💯
Mais qu'il est merveilleux! Il me donne le gout de finalsment demenager a Paris :)
I need to go to paris now since i have this really nice umbrella my history teacher gave me, and well there's certain areas that are falling apart
I just love his accent
Something that’s existed for 48 years but I have never heard of it
Troll Blockable good for you
Troll Blockable Depending on where you live is most likely a huge factor
Troll, if you think about it you haven't heard of most things which have existed for 48 years.
like my momma
Great, I just have to travel to Europe to repair my umbrella 😅
i didn't even know that it existed ! *Reminiscence of all the slightly broken umbrellas gone to waste* :O
It's magic indeed
Now thats a true artisan...
I love a good umbrella!
Je pense que se métier est merveilleux
I needed his service some years ago when i broke one of my favs
What kind of umbrella was the last one in the video? It had a very interesting shape.
Great story
Who cares about his story. I wanted to learn how to fix my umbrella. I just wasted my time watching this useless video.🙄😒🤨.
We need a pep's in England I go through so many umbrellas!
I'm quite surprised watching this. In our country, umbrella repairmen can be easily spotted on the sidewalk or within the market. Also, they don't have a nice store like this guy has. Does it have something to do with us being a developing country? Maybe? I'm not sure.
Still, this is a beautiful video :)
I am in Paris and it is my last day here and why haven't I heard of this?
That was very cute
Wow 😱😱😱
everytime i see someone french in one of those video i feel so proud to be français
then why do you have an english username ?
the same reason why you decided to write this comment
because i want to
idiot.
then you are not proud to be french, or else you would have chosen a french username
i'm not proud to be french in every situation you know
when i do some random shit like giving myself an username i don't really feel like im proud of anything
Then why didn't you chose a french username ?
You are a traitor to your culture
This episode doesn't mean it'll stop raining in Europe. 'Tis the continent without deserts.
People used to think I was really weird when I said I go to an umbrella maker...she's dead now and my heart hurts.
Now he is a celebrity
There's alot of umbrella repairmen here in my country, the craft is integrated with watch, shoes and bag repairs.
The shop reminds me of the French movie "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg "
I was expecting his shop to be struggling, but no I was way wrong holy shit 10,000 umbrellas a year!
Omg I want the black umbrella with 4 sides and scribbles on it
Serious ASMR vibes from his voice
I thought the title meant Paris like Paris Hilton lol
I want the last umbrella so bad ....
I need to fix my Joseph a bank umbrella it’s my favorite and has been slowly deteriorating over a few months and is now pretty bad. Thanks to uses it is not made for.. reaching and closing manual blinds for windows has destroyed the wooden tip of it. I love that umbrella 😢
Amazing job but come to Indonesia & you will see many repairmen like him.
UGH! I need you in the USA! can't find anyone who repairs umbrella's in the States
Help!
French is my first language, English my second, but the subtitles are like a magnet to my ADHD, so I read them anyways.
Holy shit I want his voice!~
Him and Mary Popins must be great friends
❤❤❤
if i've known earlier about this man, he could've repaired 19 umbrellas i broke over the years!
Where can I buy a beautiful umbrella ?
I read the title and I thought it will be about Paris Hilton
This job should come back.
Damn i should bring my fav umbrella to him for repair when I was a kid. I throw it away because it just broke and no one could repair it
Is that a Breguet Type XX?
where can I get that triangular umbrella??
Beckette Rivera at his shop. He makes them.
We have one more repairman in Corfu island in Greece.
lmao this somehow reminded me of mycroft
Is that old Tyler Oakley?
hai phan lmao I thought the same thing haha
Yeah right
In serbia allso you can find this kind of job
Imagine if he's from England, his customers would double in number. (Even in the summer)
ohh i thought that umbrella repairmen are.just very common here in my country...so in europe, people.would.probably throw their umbrella.once it got.broken...good things tjis man exist
He looks like Belle's papa! :)
I can relate to him I repair things too
but it is embarrassing to say
Does Pep's still exist? It would be 50 y.o. this year!
Any chance I could meet 'the mother' if I had a yellow umbrella from Farhampton? 🤔
Wasn't this in Kingsman?
Joe Reeve what do you mean
thr r many in my country
The real question is if he can repair an umbrella that becomes a sword and a handheld gun
at first i thought he was tyler oakley
his voice, i think i came
I thought it said the man who keeps paint dry
, good one:-)
