Stage 1 is an altered version of “Heartaches,” but the difference between the two is striking.
Seriously, a compilation video featuring Heartaches that then transitioned to the similar “songs” makes Stage 1 much more chilling.

  • @kamaelea4060
    @kamaelea4060 Před 3 lety +131

The first song of stage 1 is quite sad in my opinion, it’s almost like the patient is becoming aware that the memories are fading.
Edit: My Mum is a nurse who takes care of dementia patients from time to time. She says the deterioration is heartbreaking, and that the people have periods of remembrance, but then go back to deterioration. They become very confused, and when relatives see them, they get anxious and very stressed.

Maybe I'm insane but I absolutely love this project! And I take music very seriously, its a gigantic part of my life and I listen to all kinds of music constantly and have my entire life. Maybe its the decades listening to music and the experience that comes with it? Maybe because I have listened to the most depressing, crazy music? Maybe bands like FANTOMAS mentally prepared me for this and I could compartmentalize it all easier? Don't get me wrong, it is a very serious and depressing topic, my closest aunt suffered from it so I've seen it first hand. But I'm obsessed with this album and will listen to it for the rest of my life numerous times I'm sure, altho when I first heard about it, I was hesitant. Also, I love 30's and 40's entertainment, I'm sort of obsessed even tho I'm not that old so this type of music relaxes me to begin with. And when it stops being "music" it still feels like it to me because I have listened to every genre under the sun so I've heard it all pretty much. It impacted me by not depressing me, but by inspiring me! So I give this project an A+++ it impacted my life in a COMPLETELY different way than I expected it would the first time I heard about it. And surprising me is what I hold dear in my life and few things have done that to me musically & culturally! The last being Lady Gaga 12 years ago and now this.. And before you laugh at how outlandish comparing this project to Lady Gaga is, just watch the link I will be posting shortly! In the meantime, thank you for taking the time to read this barage of words! Long story short, I love this album! ❤

I feel like stage one is unsettling because it never gets to the lyrics that would be in the original song. It just continues to loop, maybe they don't even realize but parts are missing from their memory, but at the same time it's still whole enough to make someone think it is its own kind of song (or full memory). It's like bliss unawareness of what's already happened. Somethings off, you just can't tell.

Its a really depressing experience but one that I recommend anyone who hasn't listened to it fully. It gets really hard to listen to and genuinely is disturbing especially if you think of the meaning behind the album. Alzheimer's is a scary thought. Just the thought of forgetting everyone and everything you once knew and forgetting who you were is terrifying. not to mention the time leading to that point of realizing you will forget everything. Its a horrible condition and this album really conveys the total dread of the situation.

A1, It's just a burning memory, B2, What does it matter that my heart aches, and c3, And Heart Breaks are all Heartache covers, each progressively getting worse. You also can heart it 10 minutes into Stage 4's first track, and also somewhere in stage 5's final track. You can BARELY hear the horn from A1 in Stage 6 on occasion, but only the first note sporadically. I think going back and hardcore focusing, it's played like 6 times over AN HOUR, and it's especially hard recognize it because not ONLY is it so muted and overlapped by ambiance, Kirby did a really dick move by sometimes playing different samples in EACH SOUND CHANNEL SIMULTANEOUSLY, so even when you hear a note, it's overlapped with another.

Stage 3's art truly makes me wrack my brain trying to understand what it means. It took me way too long to notice that the picture is full of 3's. I think it's almost a literal interpretation of Neuron tangles and plaques, as Stage 5's art is unquestionably a representation of an Alzheimer's-afflicted brain.

    • @PinkAgaricus

I also see traces of Stage 2's art in there...I can faintly see the base of the vase and the two humanform figures that resemble people dancing, but the rest of it is very distorted and from what I can see left of the figures from the last art's vase looks like they're running away fearfully afraid of what's next. (or maybe they're disappearing since elements of the art appear to be memories of The Caretaker, especially if the moniker and character are based on The Shining's caretaker that watched a ballroom since he overlooked a hotel that had one. [I can see what I did there, the hotel in the novel/movie's name is the Overlook Hotel])

A six hour album representing what its like to go through dementia.
Six stages of going through dementia are represented in this album as the music becomes more and more distorted as if not remembering them.
And the particular piece in the sixth stage is "a place in the world fades away"
Your last piece of memeory. Your last piece of self. The terminal lucidity causing the music to sound as if the patient is still in stage one or stage zero for that matter.
The only memory left. The only memory you can relive. But like all the other memories, the song cant go on.the song will end, and when it does.....

I'd say, the artwork for Stage-3 seems to be a female humanoid entity who's mind is sprouting, "sprouting" meaning reaching the furthest places for any memory, and attempts to remember any memories.

I just realized that your outro background has the same mountains as the logo of « evian », a French water bottle brand (but yours is reversed) just a funny thing I saw since I’m french 👀
Anyway, great review, loved it ~

I thought stages 1-3 were quite easy and actually pleasant to listen to. Stage 4 I had problems with and will need to sit and listen to that when I am more prepared....it is ranked up to quite a bit after 3 and becomes quite freaky from there. I dont think it would be a good idea for me to listen to it before going to sleep. I shuffled through it a little bit and get the idea but I know its best to listen to it through fully to understand the changes etc. This project is quite amazing though I must say.

I interpret the last 6 minutes of place in the world fades away as the patient on their death bed, the music is their last clear memory before their death

Many prople say, that the final minutes of stage 6 are terminal lucidity. But I always saw it as a funeral. There are some objective points that support this, but being honest, I probably just tell myself that, to make it a little less sad...

To me, stage 5 looks like a woman with a giant fan and poofy pants/skirt barely hanging on and/or helping what appears to be a sad man/clown who has nothing to stand on and is barely balancing on the ground (stairs?) beneath him.

To me EATEOT is more of a display at that all we do here on this earth doesn't matter. Even the best of what we are might not matter; it gets erased over time, and at our last moment we are at our closest to having our souls/spirits and our bodies completely separated from one another. That part where the choir sang "let me kiss him one more time" isn't a last mercy for us as in we are allowed to remember who we are one last time; it was a last mercy to the significant others that cared to attend to us, as in they are being signaled that for reals, we are passing on. To give THEM closure, not us. We got our closure when our memories are being swept away in all those years and no longer BELONGED to us.

first time commenting on this channel. i think they're roses but the protagonist can't see them as such, as their brain breaks down and cognition is devolving.
makes sense for imagery. roses often connote romance. the song was about romance. and both the roses and the song get corrupted by brain noise to signify the progression of mental retardedness
