You`re a big inspiration Ryan, and I think you are for a lot of people out there who is watching your videos. You have been on an journey for sure, and I bet you`ve had many many hard days. But the good days always overshadows the hard days even if they are few and far between. You decided a path, made a plan and took it from there. Just magnificent, truly a hero in my book. The question if you are a runner or a zwifter I really l like your answer - Who cares? You are both :) And you are putting your self out there on CZcams for everyone to se your journey. Massive, massive kudos for that.
What does not kill us makes us stronger!
Greetings from Norway and one that stopped drinking in 2018, turning 6 years sober now in March so I know what you mean when people asks why you do not drink :)
Keep fighting the good fight, never ever stop. Just look back over your shoulder when times get hard and se how far you have come. Turn your head forward again and keep moving :))
Congrats on your sobriety anniversary! Massive achievement. Thanks for watching the vid, pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting. 🙌👌🙏🇳🇴
Fantastic video as always Ryan 😊 you thought about setting up a Zwift group ride ?
Maybe one day!
Here is my feedback:
The thing I love about your videos is that it feels like you are really sharing your challenges! Personally, I enjoy seeing you improve (or face challenges with) your 5 km time and seeing you grow more experienced as a zwifter. I will instantly click any zwift video you upload. Zwifting is just a primal thing haha. Also, I am VERY interested in seeing a video on posterior chain muscles. Even though I exercise several times a week, I feel my posterior is lacking due to a lot of desk work. I think working on the posterior chain muscles is a great way to reduce risk for injuries and improve posture. I know some general core exercises to train abs and back muscles, but these exercises are quite boring and I need to make time to do them on a mat at home. Zwifting and going for a run is much more fun. Congrats on the weight loss!
Thanks Bart for taking the time to write this comment and I'm pleased you enjoy my vids. 🙌🙏
Wow Ryan, hadnt realised how far you had come in such a realtively short period of time. As the vlogs show, its been down to hard work, never giving up... I still find it hard to see you only have about 3.5k subscribers... As regards to being a vegan, cant quite get my head around as to why people would, totally interested though to here your take on it.
I guess when you‘re obese, a highly restrictive diet can teach/help you a lot (e.g. keto or vegan).
First, you have to educate yourself to follow the Diet in a healthy way.
Second, you eliminate all the highly palatable food that lead to binge eating in one go. You’ll never hear someone say: „Damn, I ate double the amount of broccoli/chicken breast/fish oil that I planned.“
Personally I like to eat everything in moderation, but when I need to drop some weight, I turn to a mix of quite „dull“ but healthy meals that I can enjoy enough to like them but won’t over-endulge in them. And I cut out junk food.
Thanks. I might make the vid. I appreciate the comment. 👍
Inspirational Ryan!!! I am loving your vlogs!!! At 53 and after a 12 year break from running due to a knee injury (which realistically was find about 11 years and 3 months ago....) I am on week 6 of C25K. I also started cycling again, which I am much better at frankly - but am dabbling in indoor/Zwifting. I have the total opposite environmental problem to you - I am located in Darwin Australia where 27 degrees C is a cool day. Thanks for being honest and transperent and just having the courage to create a better life for yourself!!! Keep going mate, you are doing a fantastic job!!
Thanks for commenting Nicole. Fantastic to hear your doing the C25K. 25 degrees (cool) sounds fantastic, I do love running in the sunshine. 🌞😎
Don’t listen to people on training, ride your bike for fun! You will make more gains for longer. I listened and have had a 5 month rest with little motivation
Hi Ryan
Stumbled across your videos via Zwift searching. Back on a bike after a 40 year break last November. Become a bit addicted to cycling and nutrition to be honest and managed just over 2 stone weight loss so far. At 62 I’m never going to be an athlete but what I can do now is keep up with the mid pack in Cat D, big improvement on mental health and more importantly keep up with the energy of the grandkids lol! Inspired videos and looking forward to your future videos.
Clay
Thank you very much. I'm pleased you found my vids and you enjoy them. Congrats on your new found fitness motivation. 🙌🙏💪
What an amazing video. Really appreciate you sharing your journey. Well done
Thanks. 🙏👍
I’m so glad you said “who cares …….!!! “ live the videos ….. !!! Keep it going, I always look forwards to your content. 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks WolfGirl. 👌 Pleased you like the vids. 🙌
****BRILLIANT VIDEO RYAN***
I love and admire your positivity. You are an inspiration to ordinary people like me who have never won anything or been a superstar. I, too, am addicted to Zwift, and I race several times a week. I have lost weight as a result and feel incredibly positive about life...I am 60 in July but have never felt as fit. I just need to stop drinking alcohol and go vegan. Keep up the good work with the CZcams channel.
Hi Phil. Sounds Cliche but you're winning everytime you go out for a run or climb on the bike to Zwift. More than most people realise. Keep up the great work sir!
Without reading the comments nor finishing the video: I'm here for Zwift
Great Story Ryan! Congrats on your journey to become more healthy for you and your family. Love watching your videos as you inspire me to push myself harder to complete rides/races that I would have not before. I too have fell in love with Zwift and completing the Routes, especially the "hard ones". After watching you 4 horseman video, I made it my goal to complete it and a couple weeks after your completion of it I went and conquered it in 4 hr 23 min. I have just began to get into races and pushing my limits to collect my first Zpower win. Keep up the good work and great videos!
Congrats on completing the 4 horsemen, in a great time too. Awesome!
WOW man, that's one hell of a transformation. Super happy for your success. I thought I was doing good by dropping the alcohol and getting really into cycling at 40 and 105kg. You've got me beat for sure. Keep it up!!
It's all ralative! You're Killing it too. 🙌
@@RyanCondon not to boast, but I'm in better shape now than I was at 20. Done tons of brevets of 200km and each one brings such a feeling od accomplishment. On zwift I already attained my goal of a sub 1h AdZ and then passed it again. I'm starting to wonder where the fitness ceiling ends. To bring perspective though I was never completely inactive and usually had some weight lifting going on. The biggest thing was the alcohol holding me back. Your content and others like it really help the normal people set attainable goals and really appreciate it. Good on you and your transformation!
+1 for the vegan video.
Massive congrats on getting sub 100kg as well - that’s a Herculean effort. Power to you!
Thank you. 🙌
Fair play Ryan, best bit of advice, keep doing what you're doing as that's what people want to see - someone who is relatable! Very similar journey to myself. 2 years off the sauce and also found zwifting as well as other passions. Keep grinding and inspiring! ✌Oh, did the four horsemen today and pretzel a week back. Think you need to eye up the Uber Pretzel! 😉
Thanks. Congrats on your achievements. 👏
Amazing, a complete 180 degree turn with your life! At 190 kg You certainly would have been pushing for a heart attack, stroke or diabetes. Your an inspiration Ryan, keep doing the videos, they're brilliant!!!
Great video. The real charm and attraction of Ryan's channel is the refreshing honesty. The 4 Horseman video was a case in point. After suffering for 3 hours on the trainer, the internal dialogue and stream of consciousness that came out as he realised he didn't have enough time to complete it was both laugh out loud funny and heartbreaking.
You obviously take your training seriously, given what it has done for you, but you don't take yourself too seriously, and don't mind showing the side of yourself which can make an arse of things....as we all have and do.
I've been trying to lose 5 kilos for a year with no success.... And I've noticed your Alpe du Zwift pb is creeping ever closer to mine. Time to use that as inspiration to up my game!
I appreciate this comment. Good luck in your inevitable new ADZ PB. 😉
Ryan i love watching your vids. I am currently doing intermittent fasting. My very fav parts of your vids is watching you suffer. I force myself to suffer and like you, gain huge satisfaction from trying my best even when i lose. My biggest achievement was le marmotte in france, i did it in 9 hours.
Thanks Rob. I'm pleased you like seeing me suffer. 😅
I know exactly what you mean though. 🙏🙌
Congrats on the Marmotte, that's very impressive.
You are an inspiration Ryan. What you have achieved (and continue to) over the past five years is amazing to see. You saw that something had to change and you've grabbed the bull by the horns and gone for it. Your Zwift videos are the reason I found your channel and I'm sure there are runners out there who found you that way. So please keep doing both as we all what to see your progress.
As a fellow Vegan (and non drinker) I'd enjoy hearing anything you have to say about your journey to a healthier lifestyle. Perhaps your diet stories may nudge one person to think that they too can go Vegan /T-total and find the health benefits too.
As always Ryan, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your progress.👏
Thank you. I'm pleased you found my vids. 💪
Love the ending, brilliant. Keep doing what you're doing. The drinking is hardest to give up, I stopped at the beginning of the year, but started again as I struggled to sleep. Now that I've overcome that I'll probably stop for good. Something I heard that made me think about drinking to have fun is it's like burning your furniture to keep your house warm. If you asked me to choose I'd always say cycling as it's not high impact, which will make the most difference as you get older.
Thanks ChoccyTube. Good luck in your efforts. Hope you get to where to want to be. 💪
Ryan, it couldn’t resonate more! Don’t know you, but proud of everything you achieved! it never gets easy, keep doing all these videos!
Thank you. 🙌🙏
Interesting getting to know you better! I would be interested in a vegan video, even though I’m a meat eater I do recognize the reasons why people choose not to. Would like to see what meals etc you can have, Mrs is a vegetarian non drinker
I thought you were a bit younger than me, now i know exactly how much (13 years). I also didn't do much for fitness until i hit about 40 when I got a bicycle and started hitting the gym at work. I miss having access to that gym. I sort of let things slide again for a while after a break up and job loss, especially in the winter. But I'm planning to make fitness an ongoing part of my life for however long I can. And staying on the non smoking wagon. I'm fortunate that I can take or leave the booze.
Congrats on the non-smoking. Not a easy thing to do. Pleased you liked the vid. Good luck in your fitness endeavors.
You’re an inspiration Ryan, keep up the good work 😊
Thank you! Will do!
Vegan video would be good and also maybe some favourite meals
Great vid. Came across your channel by accident. Hats off for all the progress so far 👍
Pleased you found it. Welcome aboard. 🎉
Thanks Ryan, I know what you feel concerning none alchol, people dont like it when you dont drink.
It's a strange one, i was probably the same back in the day.
Would be glad to hear about your change to a vegan diet. Please do make that video.
Another great video Ryan! I haven't watched any of your running videos so it was nice to get a bit more of an insight in to your journey. inspirational and funny as always, please keep motivating and entertaining us all. 😁
Thanks Richard. 👍🙌
Great story presented well. It’s the authenticity that keeps me coming back. I’ve also experienced the damaging work culture - glad to have put that behind me now. Wisdom comes from recognising what’s really important and you appear to have found that. Inspiring story Ryan - so pleased it’s all working for you
Cheers Steve and congrats on your changes/achievements. 👍🙌
One of the best exercises for the posterior chain is the regular deadlift. Love it myself, but you really have to watch out for your technique, otherwise your lower back will hurt.
I love running and cycling myself, but the indoor „virus“ has not infected me, maybe because I had particular bad luck with actual viruses this winter season.
Keep up the great work and inspirational content!
And to the veganism - I don’t need to hear about it, but the inevitable controversy might boost your algorithm data.
Thanks. What people eat is a personal choice/battle. Might make a good story, haven't decided yet. Pleased you enjoyed this vid though. 🙌👍
Love walking, but hat having pain in my right foot heal.😊
These videos are getting a lot funnier. 😀
I am both mate! Il see you at race to the stones... LETS GOOO
Let's Goooo!
Love your videos - so inspiring and so great to keep me motivated on my own journey.
Thanks. Im pleased you enjoy them.
🙏🙌
"no one likes having a drink, when the person sitting next to you is stoned...........cold sober" :D
Thanks 😊 , love your channel 😊
I run but have never done 100 km in one go, also I have never done the "Four Horsemen" on Zwift, which is the longest route in the game. You are an endurance athlete, hands down. You have earned it.
Prl London is 170k,next is the Uber pretzel 130 and more climbing.but all 3 hard as hell
@@robsampson4971I guess the four horseman would take longer to finish for beginners because of the climbing parts?
Or would you think the longer routes would take longer to complete? I might tackle one of them when I’m done with my half marathon and this would be interesting to know.
@@fabianbinder3681 but both the have even more climbing, the 4 horseman 2100 metres,90k.uber pretzel 2400 130k,.prl London is deffo the hardest in all aspect nearly 2600m 170k.time in the saddle was a brutal day however you look it on a trainer
@@fabianbinder3681I would go mega then Uber pretzel the prl london.plenty of drink food and chamois cream😂it's as much a mental game after 100k
@@robsampson4971 thanks mate, great insights!
Another great vid. Always do what you enjoy. Your content is your journey. Everyone should do what is best for them. What you do is best for you and people love authentic relatable videos and that’s what you provide. I am a fellow zwifter wanting to lose weight, so Zwift videos are relatable to me but I have still enjoyed your update video of where you started and why you are doing what you are doing. Keep it up for as long as you enjoy it.
Dude!!!! you are unrecognisable!!!!!Unreal. Brilliant
You are truly inspiring people I’ve changed my life from eating crap and processed foods and alcohol I’ve gone carnivore tad the opposite to you found biking started mtb then bought road now have 2 road bikes and two mtbs but I won’t run anymore but can ask why are you d and I’m c category and your power is better than my
I'm a CAT D at the moment. Hopefully I'll be promoted with my recent weightloss.
Look forward to your videos every week. Would like to hear your vegan story!
Cheers. 🙌
Keep up the good work with the videos Ryan… all the good people are born in 1980 (me too). Like you I didn’t really do running until 2012 when I won a place in the Great North Run. Ran everyone since (bar covid) and only recently discovered zwift in December in preparation for my half Ironman triathlon in June which I won a place for in a Facebook competition… dare to say 70.3 miles over swim bike run is daunting.. trying to concentrate on bike as it’ll be the longest section I do on the day! Your content is so relatable to me as I’ve got the dad bod and trying to lose weight is hard for me… scales aren’t showing results I want at the minute but have had comments from work colleagues saying a looked “trim”… apologies for the long comment…. Ride on and keep on running… oh and maybe 2025 give triathlon a go!!
Good luck for your Ironman event. An Ironman is on my bucket list eventually. Hope you smash it. 🙌
@@RyanCondon have a look at The Lakesman which is one I’m doing… Up in the Lake District.. will be a hard day out but very scenic!
You have a lot of potential.
Another great video 👌 Can listen to you talking about this stuff all day.
I'd be interested in a video on your diet, and there must be other people going on a similar journey to you who would, too.
I've been vegetarian for around 7 years. Mostly eat a vegan diet, but there are just a few things that stop me going full tilt. I'd be interested in seeing what you eat.
Cheers Lee. Diet choices/battles are personal and I might make a vid about mine. On the fence at the moment. Thanks for watching sir.
@@RyanCondon I think you can make one without getting into the ethical stuff. Just the practical benefits of how it's helped you in weight loss, and how you navigate the particulars of finding affordable options (that's one of the things I find tricky with some vegan food), and what you eat to meet the requirements for all these activities. I would find that really cool to hear.
Love the story of your move forward, I’d definitely like to see your video of going and staying vegan
Both!
Yep - do the veganism video... I think these days everyone knows that plant-based whole food (which is not vegan, I know) is the most probably the healthiest "diet" anyone can practice. We - our family - have reduced our meat meals to about once a week. We feel much better. Also, and a corollary to your being more conscious with your food choices, I've recently read/audibled "The Hunger Habit," which is a book written by a neuroscientist who teaches mindful eating. He has a eating wellness center in the states... you can hear him on a few podcasts. Short of the long of it, this has been significant for me for how I eat, and the weight I'm losing. Significant in the respect that it's not a calorie-counting way of eating, and he talks about why calorie-counting is a stress-inducing practice. Another mantra of his book that I keep in the back pocket is "what do I want verses what does my body need." His argument goes that if you listen to your body, via mindful techniques - which is just being conscious and reflective - your body naturally desires plant-based options, because, yes, our brains will want the sugary crap - the cravings, but if we listen to our bodies and ask "what do I need," 9 times out of 10 we'll go for the healthy option.
Thanks for taking the time to share this comment. I really appreciate that.
I'll check out the audio book. Thanks for the recommendation. I find eating habits fascinating especially after 20+ years of not caring and eating whatever I wanted.
Great video Ryan. I've only recently found your channel and think that what you have done is amazing. Keep up the good work.
Welcome aboard!
Great video fella! Nice to know I’m not the only one going for the John Lennon look 😂 A vegan video would really interesting 👍🏻
Truely inspirational, Ryan
Great job on all your achievements.keep striving 💪
Thank you! Will do!
Did you used to be pro golfer Colin Montgomerie, Ryan? 😂 Seriously, so impressed with the journey and destination 💪 🚲 🏃
Love your vids - what a journey.
Awesome vid Ryan! You’ve done an amazing job ❤
Glad you liked it!!
Amazing to see this, Ryan! 💪🏼
Thank you sir!
119kg now😊
Great video Ryan, I also gave up the booze after lockdown when it had become an everyday thing and worried if I ran out so thought it was a good time to just stop altogether. Have you tried any of the structured workouts on zwift? I’m not great sticking to them, but as ive hit a fitness plateau I’m back doing intervals 🤢 even tho it hurts. 👍
Welldone for quitting Alan. Not an easy thing to do. Hope you feel better for it. I'm not disciplined enough for the training plans, I find them boring.
You are 100% correct they are boring, but I’m also bored of getting dropped every race, so ive got to do something! First few months without wine and beer were tough avoiding the booze aisle but it got easier.
You’ll forget about the running when you get that road bike.
NEVER! 😅
@@RyanCondon Never forget running, or never get a road bike?
@@dpspeedy I'll never forget my first true love. 🏃🏼
Ryan you make great videos. I found your channel when looking for couch to 5k style videos, but the Zwift stuff is fun too, and I might consider it when I get a bigger place. I found a guy who makes similar content to you (sort of) - Benji Naesen. Maybe there's an opportunity for a crossover there :).
I'm pleased you found my channel. Welcome! I love Benji's vids. 👍
The answer is : Yes
great stuff
You're a health and fitness youtuber, IMO, but there's no need to pigeonhole yourself into one thing, so yeah, who does care? ;-) And there's something funny about all the "I don't have it"s! Hahaha. A bit of inspiration, a bit of comedy, a bit of exercise.
That's exactly it. 🙌
Quit Alcohol, become a vegan, and sign up for a 60-mile run... I've always wondered what a midlife crisis was. Well done, m8.
Add in lose over half your body weight and start a lifestyle motivational youtube channel.
Vegi-vegan, yes to vegan video. 😊thanks
id like to see a vegan video, as i eat alot of vegan food, im veggy but i do want to be vegan
I would argue that you’re plant-based rather than vegan. Vegan by definition is someone who doesn’t eat animal products specifically for the animals, while someone who doesn’t eat animal products for their health is plant-based. Sounds to me like you’re plant-based. I’d still love to hear about it though!
What is someone who is vegan for both reasons but talks about it from a health and fitness perspective on a video as they have a YT channel documenting their health and fitness journey?
@@RyanCondon Fair point well made! 😄
I can’t judge anyway - I’m just a vegetarian commentating for your algorithm. And also because a vegan/ meal prepping/ eating for fuel and performance video would actually be pretty cool.
I’ve only just found your channel today so perhaps you already have some of those and I haven’t got to them yet, but either way I am in support of the odd food video on a health and fitness channel!
I don't drink alcohol or smoke. 😊
Another great motivational video,
Ps if you want to know what you look like when dancing u tube teresa may but dont worry about it as your doing just fine.
Give us your vegan Vid 😀👍
Yeah vegan video please.
Great video, but please no vegan videos! more zwift please.
You can skip the Vegan one when I make it.
