We were lucky to beat Brazil last week and I cautioned against over confidence. This defeat underlines our need to not get carried away and overlook the deficiencies in defence, where Lucy Bronze in particular is on borrowed time. We really need Bright and her no nonsense defending back asap and there is no cutting edge in attack in the absence of Mead-- not sure why Hemp was even selected after her bad injury against Brazil. But food for thought for the Manager who should ensure that there is no complacency anymore

and the Australians were without Foord, Catley and Kennedy to name but a few. Raso and Fowler up front have had precious little minutes at Man City and some of the others are in mid-tier sides in Sweden or Australia so that doesn't fly. We keep getting told about England's depth but the first sign of defeat this excuse gets trotted out.

Just an off day, I've got into the womens football since watching them in the cup, they are brilliant and so much more entertaining than the men's, the weather didn't help them in this match either everyone was slipping and sliding and trying to remain on their feet, getting myself a bronze shirt for the world Cup 👍

@@deaddoll1361 nowhere near is an over exaggeration. Most of the matildas play in league winning sides in Europe and the states. Loads of the youngsters (such as Grant) go to Scandinavia to gain experience and Carpenter is the reason that Greenwood didn't make it at Lyon.

Not a bad thing ..the loss...it wasn't a bad defeat ...Aussies set up well and at times used the pitch better...don't think we played bad ...at times we had chances ..and cud have drawn on another day ...I'm sure serina will address the issues and ream will get together and sort them out before the world cup...in Oz....Proud of you lionesses always ...what a record...30 with out loss... Some things to point out for England:
1) Some mistakes were made
2) Defensive blocking has been world class regardless - you don't see that every day
3) Everyone's been saying it, but 30 games prior to this one being undefeated has to be some kind of record. Truly amazing work!
4) European winners - Still creating history here. Let's not forget!
5) Finalissima winners - these trophies don't come to anyone. I'm very proud of our team
6) England can't win every time, right? 😅 Australia played very well!
7) It was thankfully a friendly game, but England played strongly considering this

Sam Kerr was offside when the ball was played. Without VAR I am not sure it would have been disallowed had Leah not touched it but as a defender you don't just leave it, you try and get it away from danger. Second goal was unlucky, she couldn't do much about that deflection. Still a rock at the back for us.

Disappointing, but it didn't help when Hemp went off (as she was running at them. Hope she's ok). We were stiffled by the Ausies... goals were a bit soft... first possibly offside, 2nd massive deflection.

I love Leah Williamson, but let's be honest, he made a lot of mistakes because of which we conceded naive goals that still have to work and work hard before the World Cup. And in the World Cup, one small mistake costs us a lot.

A little disappointed after watching the Lionesses play last night It was unusual to see them play so poorly. I will say better to do it now then in the world cup though and lets be honest they had to lose at some point. Lets also hope they have got that out of their system so onwards and upwards from now.
I wouldn't say they played poorly. There was some ace blocks from defenders, close calls on goal opportunities and some unfortunate ball handling which led to Australia scoring the two goals
England played well but it those little mistakes like Leah's that cause them a defeat

To be fair England were the better team, just made a couple of dumb mistakes.. However, it was a friendly and I don't expect any own goals or an absent defense tomorrow!

It’s a shame VAR wasn’t being used that game it just shows why it should be used for every professional game.
Kerr was offside by at least two strides and that goal then set the mood for the rest of the match.

Looks like Australia started with a 3/4/3 & went to a 4/3/3 and would drop alot of bodies in prevent "D". Aussies would counter attack with Sam Kerr isolated or with 2 players attacking.

The 2nd half against Brazil set the alarm bells ringing.They looked 'leggy'.
I watched them in training before the match and they looked real sluggish and slow paced. The tempo of training was way too slow.
