All the love to Rory is deserved, but holy fucking shit, his bass player and drummer are crazy!!
I saw him in Vancouver in early 70s. He opened for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple . I knew his song Bullfrog Blues. I hollered for it several times but he didn't play it till the last song after two ovations. He said "this is for the guy up there and pointed to me." Made my night when he played a blistering version and got a magnificent send off from the crowd. RIP Mr Gallagher.
Tom Salisbury. That’s a great story bro. Must have been incredible to watch him live. His tone in this vid is amazing. You don’t hear these raunchy raw tones these days.
Tom I saw him too but in 87' but to see him with Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple holy shit!!! He was such a rare guitarist who didn't want to sell out and wanted to keep it real!! He's sorely missed To think Jimi Hendrix was on this gig maybe not this nite but he passed away a week later!!! Wonder what he thought of Rory?
Superbe hommage !
@@simonmcgrath4112 Hendrix was asked in an interview, "How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?" and he answered "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher that."
Don Ashton - ( Lame Gypsy) I got turned on to Rory very early ,..I. Aspired to try and play guitar like him,..but sadly I failed,.....so I became a better Drummer,! ....( get the logic )
He was a free spirited and pure musician. He felt it. What an amazing talent. He's free and soaring with Jeff Beck now. RIP You're truly missed.
this taste album is one of the most underrated rock albums of the 1970s. skipless album
He was the meanest cleanest blues rock player I've ever heard. Great singer songwriter. Never hit a bum note, improvised at will, responded to the audience energy, a superb showman, magician, & a very kind gentle egoless human being, proud Christian & real Irishman. RIP Rory Gallagher - may the road rise up to meet you.
Very well said💕
Well said
RIP Rory🇮🇪. May the road rise to meet is a brilliant expression, I’d never heard it until recently on the Tommy Tiernan podcast.
@@sleepwalker8600 czcams.com/video/Vq7JSic1DtM/video.html
Hardly cleanest.
Three guys playing with 100% soul. Fantastic performance.
Rory I loved your music in my youth. And now, 50 years later, I am still loving it. Thank you for it very much! Rest in Peace in Heaven.
66 now and I still listen to and love the m usic Rory made.
68 now land so I am
This is the Island of Wight Music Festival (UK) August 1970. Taste were brilliant.
And I was there in the audience aged 19.
Wonderful !!
lucky you!
I was there, too. It was out of this world.

Bin jetzt 70 Jahre alt und höre immer noch die beste Musik. Danke für das einstellen.
ja die `70er waren eine Manufaktur für ewig geile Musik
I'm 32, work in a big grocery store and my dock manager, who's in his 50s asked if I have ever listened to Rory since I've always been classic rock fan fond of Clapton, Rush, the Move, the stones, Nilsson, the doors etc. And this guy is something else.
I take it you're now 33?
Mind blowingly good performance. The feeling between the three of them is out of this world.
Even back then, his strat was beat up and worn.
What a guy!❤
The best blues player and singer ever
good... the best.. ok
In terms of technique, jimi and Rory are tied, but in terms of whether the best thing is a Robert Johnson
Those were the days. No bullshit, you got up and *played* .
This is the festival l would go back in time to see. Rory, Kossoff, Townshend, Hendrix...Good god.
Good lineup, Wilgar was a pretty good!
@@belasgirl6 That is John Wilson on drums, Wilgar came along when Rory went solo.
Indeed what a festival. The Who at their best. Mega lineup!
and I'd mention The Doors...
Hendrix got heckled and booed at this concert, Rory and the boys had naked chicks jumping up on stage.
I saw him in Stuttgart 1975. The last concert of his European Tour. It was one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. Absolutely incredible and unbelievable.
Truly one of the most purely honestly expressive guitarists, who had an electric soul that sang through his guitar. Humble, true, simply magic.
It always impresses me when a guitarrist only uses the same damn old pentatonic scale, but somehow instead of sounding dull and predictable, creates something unique and fresh like this crazy son of a bitch, what a legend
You can tell how old a video of Rory is by how much paint is on the guitar 😅. Love him so much ♥️
I was thinking that too 😂
The crowd are just blown away by this band , guys on the side stage can’t believe what they are witnessing
What a waste for the rock & blues the Rory died so young. He predestinated to do bigger even things than this solo. Excellent music.
U speak fo 600 000
oh please, this is average at best and the singing is horrible.
THE most under talked about Guitar player! This is a REAL bluesman. You feel his pain. Do the world a favor: "Tell a friend about Rory"
All appreciation and respect to Rory, but REAL bluesman he was not. That's the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Son House etc. Rory was a friend of and appreciated the blues. Bluesman, no. Guitar shredders are not bluesmen. Blues is a lot deeper than just the guitar. You need to learn your blues a bit better.
@@zoso1980 all right then lovely! If thee say so!
God bless
I did today!
@@zoso1980 Dear, you know RORY GALLAGHER as a shredder and not a blues virtuoso, you must have really fathomless blues intelligence and you probably haven't listened to his solo records.
@@zoso1980 with all do respect to you, you should check out other video of the man, stephanie you will find the blues that they're talking about.. ps. Make sure you look him up by his name and not taste..
rory is just 22 years old here- yet looks and sounds older beyond his years - a timeless spirit
Shit! 22 oh god
Everything for which you know Peter Green - if you know him - was committed to tape before he was 24.
Black Magic Woman
Green Manalishi
Oh Well
Man of the World
Lot of musicians in bands at this time were very young, for example in "Free" guitarist and bass player were under 18 and the others under 20 I think- but Rory began to play with "The Fontana "at 15 too. It 's something we can't imagine today. There are young girls and boys music players on videos and tiktok perhaps but not on real stages
his Tone is so good and to think it's just two things put together, a Treble Booster into a Vox AC30, and yet it produces such a monstrous sound is just amazing.
I picked up a bunch of the recent Gallagher deluxe album reissues, 2 CDs each, one of them one of the guys in his later band, I think Gerry, said he also had a Fender
Champ or something that he used in the studio sometimes, mainly on the first Rory album, and he couldn't believe the sound Rory got out of even this little Fender
amp! But of course the Vox AC30 with TB was his main rig for years.
No pedals for the great man, just sheer breathtaking playing on each note, with no gimmicks, the best guitarist who ever walked the planet
This is the most unbelievable I have ever seen.
TASTE is by far my favorite Rory Gallagher period. One of the best power trios ever
One guitar, one amp, one Irishman. One hell of a thing !
Rory was a genial soul, alright, but he wasn't the only Irishman in that mold. Although they played a very different sort of music, the lads in Horslips spread a similar vibe just a few years later...
@@haeuptlingaberja4927 it would have been interesting to see Rory fall in to Playing a Track with the Great Horslips
You forgot the one Treble Booster pedal, but yeah, good stuff.
The Irish wizard ...young and beautiful❤
Hendrix, Kossoff, Barre, Townsend and Gallagher all at the same festival. Unreal.
The year before was far better.
One of Hendrix last appearances.
Tickets were probably only like 10$....

+ ALVIN LEE
I also saw Taste in Vancouver in 1969 , this time with Delaney and Bonnie and Blind Faith , great show !
wow !
This is one of my favorite live cuts of anything ever. I've had this album (Taste Live at the Isle of Wight) since 1976, and goddam.....
I saw Taste at the Marquee in early 1969 as a 13 year old and remember standing there thrilled to the core. Decades later I saw Rory at the Roxy on Sunset Strip and he was nice enough to allow a drunk, barefoot, top hat-wearing and feeble Slash to “jam” during the encore. It was not an experience I imagine the millionaire rock star cares to remember!
Just such a raw performance! All three putting in so much soul, I always loved Rory's sound that He got from that strat!! Like no other, So sorry to see Him go. 😢
Saw him many times at The Concorde Club in Southampton in late 60,s early 70's before his rise to fame. Feel blessed to have watched him from 6 foot away. Couldnt get enough of him. Truely remarkable. One of the best if nor THE BEST
lucky man
I don't know nothing about music (techniques and so on) but I do know Rory puts his heart and soul into what he does and I'm deeply touched by it. That's why I love him so much and to me, that's what counts.
he was a beauty with a soul to match.
Couldn't agree with you more, Brigitte. He was an honest, genuine person/musician. And that's a rare thing today, or yesterday.
Seems like you got it figured out to me. Too many players play to impress instead of express.
I'm only just discovered Rory and can already tell that he's pure rock and roll, the real deal, he gave it his all and was very talented it seems
tomorrow ?
Excellent! That goes for the bassist and the drummer too!!!
totally agree
@@johnmcleod5440 Ritchie McCracken on bass, John Wilson on drums
Superb musicianship from Rory and the other guys...
@@billwray9474Thanks for naming them, didn’t know 😊
I saw him
in my home town of Sunderland in 1974.
He was simply incredible.
Saw him in long beach and even as a stoned out little surf kid i knew this man was something special.Huge fan ever since....bit of a muse.RIP RORY.
Over the past few years I have been amazed by the live footage of Rory Gallagher at the Isle of Wight. Damn could Rory play or what!
And to think that this is 53 years ago now!
And he was only 22
One of the greatest guitar performances ever... bar none!
I was at The Isle Of Wight festival and saw Taste twice that year . Again in Nottingham with Family and Atomic Rooster ...what a year , what a summer- Taste were just amazing .
Saw Rory in 87 in Glasgow, greatest guitarist who ever lived, bar none
My grandchildren call this "Grandpa's headache music."
The best guitarist ever to come out of Ireland both North and south
One of the best in the whole World ever.
Better than Gary Moore?
@@chipdayton1625 in my eyes yes and I love Gary Moore as well but Rory just had something special, even jimi hendrix said that
@@nonrevnosnibormetalbeerrev6251 Indeed he did have something special. I just think Gary Moore doesn't get the respect that he deserves.
@@chipdayton1625 I think he does mate, seen them both live fantastic players but Rory just outdid everyone I have seen
Ok, so, I just accidentally stumbled onto this out of nowhere having never heard of this band somehow, and I gotta say... I absolutely love this! How have I never heard of this band?!
Just get the albums
Happy birthday 🎂rory.
You are missed 😢
We love you.💜
A true musician,a master on guitar and true to the blues.
R🕯P🎸🎙🙏
I played this song myself on guitar long time ago. I admired Rory so much. What a talent, had to go much too early! You can hear how he seeks the feedback sound which is the essence of blues/rock in my opinion!
Were you able to do his type of bending and vibrato? I don't think I could imitate. Those are what makes this performance stand out.
THE PASSION HE PLAYS WITH IS EVERYTHING.
passion, indeed, married to talent.
The greatest blues rock player to ever put on a Strat and this footage only confirms the truth of the matter! In fact the whole band is friggin awesome!
One of the best EVER live performers, totally awesome in every way and nothing else to add, the band just said it all.
1970…. The year I was born… Love this live raw vintage stuff… Wish he were still with us…. Seriously Blows!
The best quitar player at his best . Amazing!!!!!!
The drummer is on it too!
So underrated it hurts. A lot of people claim they have never heard of him, which I find astonishing. Many guitar greats, Hendrix, Blackmore, May, Page, Clapton all hold him in such high esteem. Blackmore called him the most natural guitarist he'd ever seen and when asked about what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist, Hendrix said 'I don't know, you had better ask Rory Gallagher'...Praise indeed.
Been listening to Rory since the late 1970's and was privileged to see him live in concert, Copenhagen in 1987. Precious talent.
If there was vote by musicians rory would win everytime
This is REAL MUSIC, played by REAL MUSICIANS,
Rory Gallagher looked amazing and sounded phenomenal and unique , a beautiful unassuming Irish man,
He'll still be playing somewhere in the universe,
Did Hendrix say that
Hendrix ..did say his favorite was Terry Kath
This is heart & soul, what a freaking talent! They don't need stupid dancers, lame big screens nor a thousand sorry asses light bulbs hanging down the cieling to drag you to their mood or keep you interested. Rory's the best.
Hawkwind had a dancer...
Right from the start after he left the dance bands behind, he was something special. The two taste albums are astonishing. Even though he has been dead for nearly 30 years. We still have his musical legacy.
I saw Rory in 1980 in Marseille France, Eliot Murphy made the first part of the show. He began with the son titled follow me... it was unbelievable !
Legend from Donegal
I went to Isle of Wight with a friend on my little Fiat from Italy and enjoyed music and Rory mostly. Much better than other named musicians
Oh the tone..... And the energy.....
This is 50 years ago!!!! WOW. Great quality film footage. Thank you.
I know I'm showing my age but I remember this gig like it was yesterday. It was one of the highlights of the festival. I seem to remember him playing some very tasty slide as well on a battered Telecaster.
czcams.com/video/Y0usqWjpqt0/video.html
Yeah there's also footage of that around on CZcams! Did you see Hendrix play too then? Heard rory blew him out of the water with his set
Ever since I bought the album Blueprint in 1972 I have been amazed by this Irishman!Total badassery on guitar!
Saw him in Houston - I think it was the '74 tour. Played like a manic madman for 2 1/2 hours. The 70's had a lot of amazing live shows from great bands. That concert sticks out in my memory. He lived and breathed the blues. Such unbridled passion. I've never understood why he doesn't top the list when people talk about blues legends. He should be in the same list as Hendrix, Page, etc.. Those Irish guys - Gallagher and Moore - monster guitarists. R.I.P.
Taste was a reel super group. I've never seen them playing live.
But I was lucky when my cousins got me a ticket for the only Rory Gallagher's concert, mid seventies, in Oporto, Portugal.
What a fine guitar player, both acoustic and electric.
i was in a tent on the hill, but came down to the arena on the saturday for this. i have been trawling my memory this weekend for recollections of the festival ,and it sounds cliched but it seems so fresh in my memory still.friends a bit younger than me are so keen to hear about it too, which i appreciate.
Rory's last album was just as good as his first.Very few can lay claim to that. R.I.P
I saw him at the Royal Oak Theater in the early 70s. I'd never seen a "relic" Strat
like the one he played. He definitely lived up to his reputation, what a performer.
On a scale of 1 to 10, this is an 11. I had the album since the early 70's and still have it, but I've never seen footage of them actually playing this song. Good grief, these guys rocked.
um it's a 12
Yeah but these go to 11
@tp10488 On a scale of 1-10, this is boring. It's just late 60's/early70's blues rock noodling. If that's you're thing then this is great. If not, then it's boring.
Steve Jackson lemme guess you’re u like that mindless Steve vai type garbage?
@@shanesolar3924 I am not the guy you're replying to but I agree with him and I don't like mindless shredding whether it's blues or metal or whatever.
Rory makes love to his guitar, no question about it…
the amount of good/great rock/bands/rock guitarists of this era is astounding - the proof is so many never made it commercially while many others did, so it wasn't for lack of recording contracts, just so much great music, much got lost in the greatness/popularity of others.
Never saw a man who cared less about his own career playing was all he cared about that's how you get to be the best
That's what I admired in him. He didn't have a pretentious bone in his body. Came on wearing working man cloths, plugged into a club amp and rocked out. He was the real deal.
Rory and Roy Buchanan as well.
Remember The Stones wanted Rory to join the group where he would have had fame and fortune but Rory turned them down,im glad he did it would have been a waste of his talents
One of my favourite songs next to Blister on the MOON. Rory Gallagher was a legend.
I saw Taste at the University of Miami in 72. Blew me away
They broke up in 1970
Rory Gallagher was the first rock concert I ever attended. It was at Belfast's Ulster Hall back in 1974 or 75. The fans went nuts over him. This is the first time I have seen this video clip but I remember it was on the Taste album called, "On the Boards". Every track was good on that one!
Killer drummer! :-)
Brian May stated that Rory Gallagher is the person who turned him onto and the reason why he's played Vox AC30 combo amps throughout Brian's legendary career. We can almost thank Rory for helping Brian find his iconic tone and being such an influence on Brian as a guitarist, who in turn influenced thousands of guitarists over the years himself. I feel like Rory doesn't get the recognition he deserves, and I only discovered him and became a fan of him through Brian May, constantly talking about Rory over the years.❤🎸🇮🇪🍀
What a great video...I first heard him in 1974, I was only 8 back then...He was HUGE in France, he'd often come to Paris and other locations sometimes twice the same year and his shows lasted 3 hours plus...Those were the days... :) :) :)
Bass and drummer also amazing.
Straight - up phenomenal! One hell of an Irishman. Still got a great sound 50yrs+.
There isn't an awful lot of footage of Taste in their prime. Thankfully we have this gem. Memories of many happy times watching them at Mothers Club, Erdington.
Fantastic and expressive ...😮
One of the best guitarists ever and one of the most underrated guitarists ever.
The best to ever hold a strat
Rory is one of my fav guitarists of all time but cmon now.
Hendrix? SRV? Ritchie Blackmore? Peter Green? Jeff Beck? Eric Clapton?
Those are just a few of the multitude that were either on his level or better lol
@@Qixo_ well Hendrix himself said Rory was the best guitarist
@@spateeight that's a debunked myth lmao
@@Qixo_ Srv tried to hard to sound like a super technical and more bluesy Hendrix. Rory had his own distinct sound and skills that of the strat masters I think only Blackmore could Rival him
Got to see Rory in 92 in Dublin - he was still rocking that beat up strat. I love his records, played them until they wore out, but that live experience is raw and unforgettable.
First song I ever heard by Taste - a great forgotten band
Taste headlined the Inverness Festival of Blues & Progressive Music in the same year. A photograph of me throwing a peace sign in the air while Rory was playing appeared in the national press the following Monday but edited so that it looked as if I was totally naked. Another blues band were second top of the bill, Savoy Brown.
Simply phenomenal.
I was never raised up on Taste as a group but I can tell you as a Kid my Dad played the hell out of Irish Tour 74. Rory is without a doubt one of the most over looked guitarist in Rock and Roll
Irish tour .great album.
Agreed and the film is a good watch too.
Not overlooked by his peers czcams.com/video/_PMcChs25jY/video.html
Attended many of his concerts in Birmingham Town Hall, UK, in the early seventies. A genius musician. Attended one of his last concerts in Nighttown, Rotterdam in 1995 when I lived in The Netherlands.
Wonderful music and guitar playing.
Genial!!!!!!!!. Ich liebe rory bis zu meinem Tod. Einer der besten guitaristen der Welt. Rest in peace.
I was fortunate enough to see Rory on some of his best nights, one of those being the legendary Ulster Hall gig where he played well past curfew and they had to turn the house lights on to stop him. Amazing.
Mindblowing performance😊😊
I was there watching this performance. The sound on this video is way better than it was on the day. Keep your eyes open for me😎
He's CONJURING and MANIFESTING NOT performing .... this a magic spell 🍄🌙✨
