The lift sling is used to hoist a container having a
mass of 500 kg. Determine the force in each of the cables
AB and AC as a function of theta. If the maximum tension
allowed in each cable is 5 kN, determine the shortest length
of cables AB and AC that can be used for the lift. The center
of gravity of the container is located at G.

Hi, thank you for the explanation. I just got a problem with the data given in the question.
It says, it is a container, therefore a cube of sorts. If that is the case, then a 2 sling lifting is not appropriate. It should be a four leg chain.

Are we neglecting the weight of the spreader bar?

Hi, I'm very interested in spreader bar mechanics and wondered if you would like to tackle a more complicated question for your channel? I would like 2 primary slings down to a spreader bar (different angles so I can work with assymetric arrangements?). From the spreader bar, I would like 2 secondary slings down to a "base". The actual load would be sitting on top of that base, possibly slightly off centre. This means the COG is higher than the lifting point. I'd like to explore and understand the metacentric height and how to "balance" this kind of arrangement. The material I have been studying so far is very interesting, free and available online from Prof. Capt. Hermann Kaps. The paper is titled "Stability of Cargo Suspension Arrangements". Page 15 is a pretty good example of what I am asking (but it is symmetrical). If it piques your interest, I'll be checking your channel for a talk. Cheers,

Hi Drexrel = The cable are different cables and so we should have two different T but you used only one T. How is that ?

How to find size of spreader bar? Means the sectional area required of spreader bar to be used for lifting a specific load with specific length of a spreader bar.

How much lifting capacity is lost per foot in height on a forklift when a load is raised up in the air? Forklifts are rated for both horizontal and vertical lifting capacity. I get this question all the time and need a problem solving method to use.
