I bought the cheapest Alfa in the UK, a 1977 Alfetta Berlina, shipped it to Singapore (we can only have RHD vehicles here) and went through the exact same pallaver taking my 1.8 Bialbero engine out. Have not posted nearly enough vids of the misery I've gone through but will get to it. Engine now cleaned up and empty of mud, sand and grit and back together. Bodywork next. 🤕 Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks mate, I appreciate the message. Some days I'm super motivated to tackle a problem and just wing it, sometimes doing more harm than good. Most often I overthink things too much and get analysis paralysis! Cheers.
@@nooch86 I understand, that it’s better than costly erroneous errors.. the right balance between the two is difficult. Also always trying to think of things you don’t know, but what you must be learning along the way, irrespective of the cars progress, is a lifetime benefit…. I had a GTV6 long ago when they were current and was accused of polishing the paint off it, 🤣😂 but it’s such a charismatic car, even with all its imperfections. I am considering doing it all again and yet my practical head tells me don’t be stupid, where will I get parts…
I really admire your motivation. Please get another set of jack stands, you have to lift the back of the car as well to do this kind of works. Even better to get a set of 6 tons jacks, the ones you are using are working at full extension which is not the greatest thing to do.
From memory I tried to turn the shaft but couldn't get any leverage on it. I didn't have a socket large enough to turn the engine (I should have just went and bought one because I needed one anyway). The whole thing was pretty stupid also because I didn't have the cam belts fitted at the time, thus the pistons would have moved and possibly hit the valves.
@@universalcitizen7544 they originally came with a 2.5lt v6 busso, but a common upgrade is dropping in a 3lt v6 busso. Seeing as they are very similar engines in the same family, doing this modification doesn't drop the value and the car is still considered fairly original.

Große Leistung - alles alleine zu machen! Respekt! I have GTV6 2,5 too. Rob
Undoing the pich bolt at the front should allow prop to slide out
I admire your motivation your really approaching this with one screw driver and one spanner … it’s a difficult gig. It’s a spectacular car though.

Thanks Claudio. And thanks for the tips.
U did amazing job dude!
I am really looking forward to seeing more of this project!
Thanks, I hope to make fairly fast progress!
Been there dine that on a few times on a gtv6
My current car has the 3.0l in now
Keep it up choxtaa. Good choice of music from the movie drive 😊
Haha thanks man!
I hope you did mark the driveshaft orientation with couplings and bolts otherwise you will have vibration issues!
The drive shaft was already marked, but I didn't mark any bolts or anything.
I hope you didn't leave the engine that high up on the hoist! Always lower it to the floor when finished, they can and do fail.
I'm not going to lie I did leave it like that overnight but then I lowered it to the ground the next morning!
Why didn't you put it in neutral and turn the engine or even the shaft

@@nooch86 thanks mate. So did these came with a 3.0 engine stock from factory back then in 1983?
