- This is a general audience video about model engineering.
As promised here is a small update about my 5 inch gauge loco. Still problems to sort out, but he's getting there, found a leak on the cylinders a couple of days again, that's a day's work- remove boiler - remove cylinders - re-gasket them - then re-assemble... oh well.
Great work so far man! I can’t wait to see more of him, this deserves so much more attention! :)

I mean that's quite the feat.
who wouldn't brag about it, not only is it Thomas, its an E2. if you build it yourself you earned the right to brag.

That's one of the most impressive models i've ever seen in this fandom. Well done!
I mean, Thomas is described as a "fussy little engine." Issues are to be expected I suppose, and that it holds true even at 5inch gauge only makes the model more accurate if you ask me!
As far as the locomotive itself goes, though: it's fascinating to see a live steam model of an E2 operating in present day. Nicely done!

What an amazing little steam engine he’s turned out to be! I wish there where more live steam recreations of the Thomas and Friends Crew.
It's been years since you started this, and MAN does it look awesome, almost like one of the Southern Railway's E2s.
You have got to have a lot of time on your hands in order to make this.

Extraordinary, i find it crazy that it was made by one person! Technically this continues the legacy of E2 tank engines
Brilliant video, although I have one gripe- ALWAYS replace the covers for the tanks when running the loco! If any soot gets in the tanks, it could clog the injectors or end up in the boiler, a problem you could do without.
I suffer a similar problem with my wood burning American 4-4-0 the tender seems to fill up with slivers of wood even with the cover on, Amazingly its only once clogged an injector and the boiler clack from the handpump.
@@johnkuzma7066 try fitting a mesh under the tender top, could help prevent splinters and sawdust from going into the water tank
@@StaxRail that's a good idea, the only problem is , the hand pump handle goes through the tender top, I'm thinking to put a rubber boot around it though.

You're certainly multitalented. From Trainz and I think also Railworks modelling- weren't you once writing a book too? And this whole live steam project of yours has been fascinating.
The things i'd do for a 5 inch gauge live steam E2, or just a 5 inch gauge railway.

Nice work on thomas, it looks to be turning out quite well. Although i do feel obligated to point out that you should NEVER run a steam engine if the lubricator is not working, it will just wear out the cylinders and pistons and eventually the engine will seize up. Fix the lubricator, than run it, otherwise you'll have much bigger problems than just having to open the regulator all the way just to get it moving.

What was the diagnosis for the lubracator? On my 7.5" American the line got blocked and it took ages using fire WD-40 and compressed air to get it clear.
If ya lubricator isn’t working check the new arm you’ve made for it as it may not be allowing the ratchet to travel enough

you may have filled the boiler a little too much at the start? Thats why there was water in the whistle, its probably better at half or just over half a glass of water. Leaves room at the top of the boiler for steam to build up.

They basically work just like real steam engines, except scaled down. I've seen g scale live steam engines at a train show and it was awesome!
