      I checked, and the grower said they use Proven Winners fertilizer, but a professional formulation. Not much different though than the PW fertilizer you can buy at your favorite garden center. The main key is to feed! Too many folks neglect that, or don't do it often enough.

  • @edanaestenes9656
    @edanaestenes9656 Před 11 měsíci

    I will not buy any plants that have that white stuff in the soil, and I definitely will never buy another plant or shrub that has those little green fertilizer balls in the planting soil. Those green things stay forever in the soil and they never break down. I had to dig out plants that I lost to a drought in 2022. Some of those plants were in the ground five years or longer. Guess what was in the soil? Thousands of green balls that never broke down. I have green balls everywhere. I will never buy that crap again. Monrovia has a much better planting medium. They rarely have those green balls, and if I see them, I put it right back down and won't buy it. Never again.

    • @GrowerTalks
      @GrowerTalks  Před 10 měsíci +8

      That white stuff is no doubt perlite, which is a natural product made from volcanic glass. It helps the soil hold air. Those little green balls you see are actually the outer shell of a fertilizer "prill" - the nutrients soak through it, leaving the ball empty. Squish one and see. The prill will biodegrade naturally; it just takes a while for it to happen. They are harmless.
      By the way, I don't know a grower of perennials or shrubs or trees that doesn't use slow-release fertilzer - it's effect, prevents runoff, saves water and is friendly to the environment.
