The Sicilian Defense is the most frequently used defense from club players to Grandmasters. The main reason for the popularity of this chess opening is its combative nature - Black fights not for equality, but for advantage. The Sicilian Defense begins with the moves: 1.e4 c5.
In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov will share with you 5 best chess opening traps in the Sicilian Defense with different variations including the Najdorf, Dragon, Accelerated Dragon, O'Kelly and Paulsen variation.

Why do you say "free"?
I don't always use chess traps. But when I do, I get trapped
It's not like that . The reson is u study only 1variation . But u have to study all the variation deeply . Every trap as an counter attack and if played correctly then that counter attack can be defended
😂😂😂
Yaaa
Samee😂 being over 1900 its pretty much useless to try
oky! this time you should work more!
GM Igor Smirnov, an excellent teacher!! Your videos are clear and easy to understand! I thank you for keeping it professional!! Thank you for your precious time and contributions to the sport of chess!!
Thank you for your support
Note: in the second trap (accelerated dragon) if black takes with the d pawn after white pushes to e6 then the game continues 10 Bb5+, bd7 (blocking) 11. BxB, QxB then 12 Qe5 (forking the rooks again)
Thankyou chess academy for the initiatives.
Great video , thanks!!

On the 4th trap, would you take the centre pawn with Q while you have the pin, then you can attack the corner?
cool video of chess
There was a certain position in the dragon lever fish variation where Bishop could go to G4 and attack the Queen the gain a tempo for black
This is a brilliant video. Thank you.
Nice video liked subscribed🙂
Good
Very help full 🌕
Glad you think so!
Lot of souvenirs for me with this video 🙂I'm from Belgium and when I began to play chess o'Kelly was one of our few GM. Problem in this system is that white can go for the Maroczy setup and it's though to play as black when you are not correctly prepared, maybe a good Idea for a next video ?
I played the Kan system when I was beginner but I lost many games and I changed for another one, but definitely one I would be ready to play again if I had time to review its theory.
Also there is another famous trap with Bc4xe6 when Fischer had reviewed a position that was commonly played in USSR at that time and he used it in tournament shorty after
Nice traps....
Super
Sempuurrnaaa i like it! Bacuse is the beat tenkyu ticher
At 4.30 if black checked woth the queen, after moving whites king, of white doesn't maintain focus on the c7 square it becomes checkmate if whites knight moves here...
Thankyou......upload more such white attacks against black scissilian defence..plz😀😀
Yeah!
😃
Yes😀
great! thx for uploading in youtube
There's also the trap 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 5.Bf4?? e5! 6.Bxe5 Qa5+ winning a piece.
That’s not a trap. That’s a blunder.
Nice vid. Saw similar vid on the channel of Erik Kislik. Quite nice content
Move 4 for black the better move is to capture with d pawn and also recapture with the queen
the last trap instead of 5.Be3 you play 5.Bd3 and then on 6th move you castle imediately and if black checks Bb4+ just move Nbd2 not on c3 to avoid capturing and make you a double pawn file. this is how i counter that trap and you need to watch every var black moves and do not use 1 var opening patern you need to learn other vars. too to avoid these traps. 😁
What’s will happen if the knight check frm d7 instead of c7
In another position in the accelerated dragon or whatever when the pawn recaptured back on C6 it would have been the other Pond that Queen's pond
So Many traps in Sicilian......thanks for great work.
good
.actualizare
I liked on Paulsen Variation
damn that first trap was insane, i didnt even get to the rest of the video yet and already subbed.
Pl advise trap in case black plays e-5 early at 5 -6 moves
3:10 is there a continuation if black play Qa5? ( because the knight is pinned ).
The last one heh
I
when my opponent starts as white with king's pawn to e4,
and I respond as black with Sicilian pawn to c5,
and then white responds with king's side knight to f3 (open Sicilian),
is there a specific initial Sicilian black defense version (? a6 O'Kelly, ? d6 Najdorf, ? e6 French, ? queen side knight to c6, ? king side knight to f6, ? other)
that works best against white's open Sicilian
(in order for me to know what best 2nd move I should make as black) ?
thank you for all you have done for the chess community!
very nyc
that isn’t NYC. sounds like some European accent
Really like how you present your chess skills. I’ve learnt more from you than ANY other CZcams chesser... thanks 😊
When white bishop is placed on G5, why can't black pawn infront of rooke be placed one step ahead to force the bishop back ?
Wow😮
Best
1:14 If black plays e5 what should i do? What's the best continuation.
3:54 Qe3_kf1 then Nb6 black win
Nc7_Kd7
Qf7_Kc6
Nxa8_Nxa8
On #5 Why can't you play a3 after the pawn advances to d5?????????
When the night moves to E6 black can capture with the pond on ff7 you'll still lose lots of material but it won't be checkmate
at 4:17 Nb6 for black is the best move. advantage for black?
then Nc7+ Kd7, Qf7+ Kc6, NxR NxN, Qd5+ and white wins exchange.
In the first trap i think black is fine if he plays Qa5 instead of Qb6
You misspelled 'Accelarated' in the dragon section for the segment title
Good shii my guy 💯!! Seems like everyone around 1400 is playing Sicilian Defense 😂
I come to your class,mr GM
At first trap what if black would move his queen on h5?
I click on all his recommended videos 😊
At 10.57 , pawn f5 can deflect the queen with capturing the bishop in next move
No coz the pawn on e5 can take it(en-passant)
Thank you very much sir for such a powerful practical traps. I got a lot of learnings from this video lesson.
2.30... wouldn't it be better for the black knight to move to e5 even if it means whites f4 pawn capturing?? This way it doesn't allow the bishop to move without getting taken by the queen or knight.
I just hit 1000 rating today and started seeing a lot of my opponents playing the Sicilian. They are gonna be in a world of trouble now.

I watch from CENTRAL MINDANAO
I have a doubt in the last variation. That will not happen, there's a lot to equalise
great but if Queen goes in a5 instead of b6, it' s not that great for white!?
queen to a4 gets a tempo for black and he can play rook to A&
i think players that bring out both knights early in the game and players that use the knights as their primary offensive players are hallmarks of an older generation of chess players. Both my grandfather and father's generation seemed very fond of using their knights extensively in chess. Some players can be lethal with their knights but I always found their importance very easy to negate.
How romantic.
hi good day can you able to make like this for the KID and KIA. thanks
What if at 8:32, D7 pawn takes the E6 pawn instead of F7?
I think there is no difference which pawn will take
I got a trap for scandinavian
Okay
Does anyone know queens gambit here?
Bold of you to assume I can convert a one-pawn advantage
A lot of stuff happened in 4 years. It would be amazing if you could update this video.
when black is in check @11:33 why cant the pawn at G7 take the knight then when the quenn moves in for check the black king moves
Because after pawn takes, queen takes queen, king moves to f1 and is a huge advantage for white.
What if the pawn on F file captures the knight in the levenfish trap
Qxd8+ wins for White.
in first case he move knight instead of rock pawn than wht will we do now ...
In second trap! What will happen if we capture pawn d7 from black
Qe5 attack two rooks again
Hi, I've a question, What to do if black's queen goes to a5 in the first trap? does the trap still work?
parry with pawn
?@@myteasgonecold7143
Pb2 protects nc3 so if black does move to a5 it ends there for black he will still have to move back to the var
In the second trap black would play f6
2:22 isnt Kc6 a free queen?
The title should be '5 Ways to Get Trapped in the Sicilian Defense'
The first one does not work..you state there are two choices...Qb6 would of course work but Qa5 pins the knight making the game a little too easy for black to win
Not necessarily. White can castle unpinning the knight and black still has a knight on e6 preventing black king from castling.
I think that would be enough compensation given blacks position is a little more difficult to defend, and white has more attacking opportunity
@@fritzschwartz3295If black castles I think black gains a move with Qb6 check and as long as black knows what's afoot he can guard against Bb7 might be okay. You are right though, that knight is an awkward piece Queen can't get safe easily
Timothy Bull I didn’t consider that variation, but taking a second look, if black plays Qa5, then b4. Of course queen can’t take because queen is guarding c7, so 2....Qb6 and the trap continues.
@@fritzschwartz3295 I think QXb4 then Knight is pinned and undefended also with fork on rook so queen can't defend if NXa8. On top of all that King moves to f7 ready for artificial castle and attacks other knight It's not looking good in my opinion. b4 doesn't work it's All black can do is look forward to a a biscuit and cup of tea after the game.
Hola como andas
Why does Qa5+ work @12:20 but not @7:24 ?
what if blacks move #10 Qe3 check followed by #11 Nb6 and if whites response #11 Nc7 check black moves his king to #12 Kd6 what would be the whites next move
If white plays d4, can black still play f5? Is that still sicilian defense?
