    My understanding is that moderate amounts of black coffee during fasting periods contain very few calories unlikely to break your fast. In fact, coffee may enhance the benefits of intermittent fasting, which include reduced inflammation and improved brain function. So I drink two cups while waiting and save some for later, after lunch, when I add cream for a treat. I am so glad I learned to enjoy black coffee years ago.

    • @cathyengen7094
      @cathyengen7094 Před 3 lety

      Michele, adding honey to tea or coffee will break your fast and also raise your insulin. If you are doing a fast or following a low carb or Keto lifestyle I really would stay away from any kind of sweetener. Even with some of the artificial sweeteners or plant sweeteners, some people still experience a raise in insulin, because their bodies respond to that “sweet taste” by raising insulin levels. You would need to test your blood glucose to see if you are one of those people. I personally do not use any sweeteners of any kind,

    What I have settled on for myself is that I eat only one meal a day (OMAD). I eat keto. However I also want my morning coffee and I loathe the flavor of pure coffee, it is incredibly bitter to me. To make it palatable, I add a single teaspoon of heavy cream and a very small amount of stevia, not enough to make it sweet, but just enough that the bitterness becomes something other. I cannot know for sure whether or not this breaks the fast, some say it does, some say it doesn't. My compromise is this. I have my morning coffee at 8AM, maybe a second around noon. I eat my meal at 3PM. That means I spend a full sixteen hours consuming nothing but water. That is still in the bailiwick of intermittent fasting. If those coffees do 'not' break the fast, then I am fasting 23 hours a day. If they do, at least I am getting the 16 hour benefit.

    • @Doriesep6622
      @Doriesep6622 Před 5 lety +2

      You could measure your insulin response at home to see if the cream and sweetener is having an adverse effect. The goal of fasting is to keep insulin at bay so that your body can metabolize stored fat (as you probably know). Some people, like myself, don't get good results with keto alone because even low carb foods cause insulin response, although not as much as high-carb foods.

    So my body would would utilize the MCT oil first and not burn fat stores? I don't use butter or heavy cream when fasting but I will after a break my fast. My opinion is only water should be had during a fast or nothing.

    Thank you for the information. Does your research show that some individuals do not respond to a fasting/keto diet by losing body fat? I do not need to lose more than 15 pounds but I have fat deposits in my abdomen. I have been fasting/intermittent and the fat is not budging. In fact the fat seems to be bulging in the wrong places. I have had some success with low carb in the past but this time...not so much. Are there any tests that can be done to determine if my body responds better to a different type of eating plan? I have heard of a DNA test that might identify this kind of issue but I am not sure what test that is.. Do you have any information or suggestions?

      Some people have faster metabolism that may be due to age, diet, and genes.. I guess u lessen carbs during ur meals and eat foods that increases ur metabolism and ketosis.
      Im not a doctor . Im just suggesting.
      I am doing intermittent fasting many times before. I believe these things work :)
