I have a University near me that has a shop where student artists sell their art. Most of the pictures are not my style, but there is a potter whose work I love. Look around for a local art museum/display/shop and maybe find a local artist to buy a picture from. I’ve done that years ago, and still love the watercolor (think snow capped Mt Shasta as inspiration). A local Scottish shop displayed art for sale of a local artist, Eleanor Clark. I was at an event while traveling, and a charity was selling prints to raise money. That print is still a favorite, plus it has good memories with it, and it was never mass produced and featured in Home Goods.
Local artists are the way to go. Some art schools (such as the one I went to) even hold open gallery nights for students to sell their work. It's a great way to get in touch with talented but affordable artists, even if you don't buy anything from the event.

On trendy lighting, you were talking about not confusing classic ones with boring and that got me thinking I probably can’t tell timeless modern lighting shapes from trendy ones. Then my brain goes into overdrive thinking I have to research the history of lighting and then think it doesn’t matter when I’m looking at what fits my style and I’m back to square one! In the next lighting video can you please go through shade shapes and flush mounts that will give a lux/lasting feel to them? Lighting always leaves me looking for the nearest piece of chocolate.

I’m so happy you mentioned “discovering your personal style.” I remember you mentioned the same thing in one of your videos a few years ago, and I followed your advice. For three years I struggled to find an interior style that soothes my eyes and makes me feel like home. But WFH really inspired me to bring natural elements into my personal space, like light oak, travertine, rattan, sheep wool, natural geometric shapes, etc. I finally settled with something that aligns with Scandinavian style inspired by wabi sabi. Pierre Jeanneret chairs definitely makes a great addition to this style, at 13:00

I don't own any posters.. all my art it original... I buy it on holiday (as my souvenir) from local +/- street artists.. love it all.. water colour and or oil, and I also make my own art. It is much nicer when art has a "personal meaning."
Plastic storage is necessary... but eg in basements and attics for things that need "long term" storage eg memory boxes, Christmas and seasonal decor, hobby stuff eg camping, skiing, snorkeling equipment, and eg. Hand-me-down stuff for younger kids from older kids.
You have changed your whole purchases vibe from a year ago…lamps, chairs, artwork. 😊

Would love videos on choosing photography for artworks, more on personal styles and looking at the emotional benefits of refreshing your home after major life changes when you’re keeping it. I’ve been rearranging rooms, can’t sleep well in the main bedroom so moving to a smaller room and painting everything, replacing blinds with curtains but any other tips would be appreciated. ❤
Just purchased those wavy lamps for my Bedsides- we are adding some new current style for our house sale campaign. They work great with my black and elm french style bedroom suite, mixed with some contemporary pieces. I like them now, and I guess they will have their time, but I decided to be adventurous! At my age, ( have been conservative all my life on home purchases) 😃now I'm out there baby!

My style is traditional Queen Ann and Chippendale and dark hard woods. My rugs are jewel tone orientals that I have collected through the years. My furniture is high quality which I have no intention of replacing. Could you possibly do a program on how do a bit of a refresh with paint and accessories. I realize this is out of your comfort zone. However, many of us have high quality furniture that is too expensive to replace. By the way, have you read the WSJ article " Why that 3,000 dollar sofa Won't Last"?

I'm curious to find out what you would suggest instead of plastic storage. I'm a professional organizer that went to interior design school and ceramic containers wouldn't make sense for 99% of my clients needs. My sense is that your home contains a lot less items than most American homes😂 what products would you suggest besides plastic? Sometimes wooden or bamboo is able to work for a client but that's also rare as well being the oils and things that get dirty really don't do well with those type of containers including canvas and fabric containers. I'm a loyal fan and have been watching you and your husband for a couple years now and I can't wait to hear from you!😍🥰👍😀🙌

I don't mind clear bins because it's easy to see what's inside while still being able to coral things and stay somewhat organized. Especially in fridge and pantry where things can become dirty and unorganized quickly.

Love your segment on lighting. I purchased 2 glass ginger jar lamps over 50 years ago and I still like them. I am surprised that they have made it through many moves, but that makes me happy. I have changed the shades many times so they always stay fresh.

I would like if maybe you could do a video on how to find your own style. I feel like sometimes my style is a mixture of oh I like this or that and yet I don't know how to pull it all together. Do you pull it together by color coordinating especially if you like to mix old with new? Also could you do a video on how to pick out pillow sizes for couches and buying the size pillow covers for what size pillows. I would appreciate that type of information. I love all your videos.

I have a deep blue Safaviah rug in my living room. LOVE IT! It anchors my sofa and coffee table so well!
I used a grip pad under a gorgeous Persian rug runner and when I rolled up the rug to take it to the cleaners the grip mat had adhered to my Italian Travertine tiles..and at my mother's house the grip mat adhered to her oak plank flooring ...ugh...we called a company to come professionally remove and repair our tiles and my mother's gorgeous oak flooring. So bummed out it really stuck to the floors almost as if it had been heated and glued with crazy glue..,I cried. Some days when I'm not even trying everything falls into place without my stressing out then...days like that it feels like I zigged when I should have zagged!!!😂 Live and learn!

Plastic storage is very useful in situations where cleaning is needed at least once a week (bathroom, kitchen, hallways). Other materials get easily stained or otherwise affected by humidity and odors.

I use classic antique/vintage lighting (chandeliers/lamps) in the major rooms of the house. Never goes out of style.

If you have pets, you don't want expensive rugs. Accidents happen. As for rug tape, my cleaning ladies flip my area rugs back and clean under them, so tape wouldn't work for me. I either get rubber backed area rugs for tiled areas, or use a rug non-slip underliner in wood floor areas.

I don’t like the small, tiny, or metal legs on furniture….those look cheap to me. I love the chunky feet on furniture. To me a little heavier legs/feet on furniture looks like it belongs with the comfy furniture.
I made the mistake of buying a sofa with the small metal legs and one of the legs bent after a friend of mine that’s on the heavier side sat on my sofa. Now I’m looking for another sofa 😢

Good quality silk plants that can be washed and still look great are a good investment. I have 2 ficus trees with real bark wood trunks that I take outside once a year and tip over and wash only the greenery with the hose. Shake them out and stand them up in the sun to dry. They look brand new and very real. At holidays I put white lights on them and they add to much warmth. Just stay away from cheap poorly made fake looking greenery. Real fresh herbs are great to have.
I’ve noticed with rugs that so many that I’ve ordered for our new home comes with one side not cut even. Brand names ( Safavieh, Suyra), pricey rugs. I’ve sent 2 back…new one comes in same issue. I noticed one in V’s video is the same. Quality is not what it used to be.

Some great tips but I don't agree about plastic containers. They are practical and functional for organizing your pantry bc you can see everything. Putting everything in a seagrass basket or bamboo box looks beautiful but is not functional for daily living. Great design not has to be beautiful, it has to encompass some functionality as well.

Ciao, for me easy to choose home decor items, if not natural no, ikea's Sanela pillows i liked but its polyester velvet so no. Sometimes they add polyester to cotton i feel it so no. I won't clog my blood more with nano plastic, we all already have it.
Id you like trendy use trendy accessories that don’t break the bank and can be easily replaced combined with classic good quality larger pieces like sofas, tables, beds etc..
Arhaus is beautiful but definitely not budget!
Whenever I find a "pretty" sofa, chair or table I always imagine the cleaning. If I make a wrinkly face or utter an ugh, then it is a big NO. That way all my stuff is both nice looking and easy to clean. It is always worth the money if you smile with what you have.
