I understand that this may be many of these young DCP attendee’s first true, unabashed, unfiltered job with the public in hospitality and retail. I’ve been a bartender and server for the last 9 years (not Disney obvs. family run) and it’s absolutely a shell shock when you find yourself being yelled at for things out of your control and not in your scope of expertise. I cried at my first serving job the first time I had a table give me a hard time over something inconsequential. Working with the public ANYWHERE is hard but especially when the customers you’re dealing with are paying tens of thousands of dollars for a vacation they’ve been planning and saving up for, for likely years now. The risk is higher and the consequences are heightened in terms of error and guest tensions.

What would have happened if you had told her to wait right there while you went to get her one? Any way you could have done that (since it was only 10 minutes away.) Get her to order it online with instructions that you would be picking it up?
Would have been a great "providing excellent customer service" excuse to get out for a few minutes!

Agh! No offense, but this is what CPs don’t grasp well. As an employee you have to really step into the guest’s shoes and understand that they spent literally thousands of dollars to be there that very week, especially for the 50th celebration. I can understand her not wanting to be told to go elsewhere. She’s more than likely had something similar happen to her already there at Disney and didn’t want to deal with it again.
Guest Service isn’t something that can be just taught, it has to come from the heart. Disney doesn’t prepare you for this in your classes. Situations like this happen to almost everyone working in this industry. I’ve worked in Orlando theme park guest service for 14 years and each day I have my fair share of difficult guests. At the end of the day you have to brush it off and move on. Guests aren’t going to magically be happy. They spent a LOT of money so that already puts a chip on their shoulder when visiting. Spending a ton of money on something is going to bring extremely high expectations. Don’t blame them, blame your employer for putting them in that frame of mind. It’s not your fault.

agree-- I would have also been annoyed. Going from the Rivera to CBR for a mug would be an inconvenience. If you are paying for a deluxe resort and have been told that you will receive a mug with free refills, it should be available for you. That lady (I think) was saying-- if the moderate HAD the mug at the cheaper price, a deluxe resort should have the same amenities. (agree no offense but if this person was a mom and responsible for other people in her party... it changes everything)

It’s really not that serious. I understand her frustration, but it’s a bit obnoxious of her to think that because she paid for the resort, she can get mad over a mug, which the cast members and managers have absolutely no control over. Personally, I would’ve been understanding if they didn’t have it. Yes, it’s inconvenient, but if you’re traveling around Disney world anyway, how hard is it to make a stop at another resort to get a mug that you clearly want badly enough to make a scene over? Again, I understand spending a lot of money for this experience, however, things don’t always go as planned, and it’s a waste of energy to get mad over something as small as a mug. This is coming from someone who gets irritated VERY EASILY about small things, I genuinely believe that she didn’t have to act the way she did. That’s just my opinion though.

@@kaiecianna Years ago a friend of mine was looking for a particular shirt and we found it in the shop at the World of Disney in Disney Springs but they didn’t have his size. The CM told us she would check on her computer as to where on property they had one in his size and then sent us to the shop at the Grand Floridian Resort. We took a long bus ride over to that resort only to find they didn’t have one. The CM there checked on her computer and said they have one at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Lodge gift shop. So we rode on 2 different boats to get there and guess what? They didn’t have one either! She then checked and said they had one at World of Disney. 😡
Needless to say, my friends very first experience on Disney property was plagued with complete failures to locate a shirt that 3 different CMs made us chase around the property only to discover they never had that size in the first place.

@@Shag471 I’m sorry your friend had such a bad experience. In that situation, I completely understand the frustration and the staff should’ve done a better job at assisting them. I would be upset too if that were me. However, not all situations are the same. The resort that she said had the cups was less than a mile away, it’s one or two stops on the skyliner. It’s not far enough to make a scene about having to go elsewhere. Also, in the video, she said that they’re able to do a pick-up order and make sure the item is in stock at the resort she was suggesting to them, meaning, they could check before even making the trip. Like I stated before, I understand the frustration, but that doesn’t mean you can blow up and get mad at a cast member or manager that has no control over what stock they get. Things don’t always go as planned. Stock delivery could be delayed and they wouldn’t tell anyone until the day of, or there’s a mess-up with the inventory, etc etc. My point is, you can be a decent person and be a little more understanding about the fact that it’s not their fault if something like this happens, and it’s not worth getting upset over something as small as an item being out of stock or not available. I’m a HUGE Disney fan. I try my best to collect every limited edition Disney item, I would be disappointed if something isn’t in stock, but I wouldn’t get mad or snap at the staff for something they can’t control.

Agree. And the manager of the hotel can surely find a solution. Someone else here said they're surprised why upper management just didn't post some boxes to the resort. Same. For some customers that's also their only holiday of the year or they've been saving for years to have that experience...of course it can be very frustrating, especially if you're paying big money. The reason you pay more is so you can have the best of the best so I totally get her frustration.

When someone pays >25 K for a DVC deed in addition to annual dues- Dam right, you're paying more and expect more and better or no one on Earth would pay more for less or the same, in any area of life, period. However, the guest at hand was probably at the theme park with value and moderate resort guests (anyways) and due to that she seemed kind of outrageous. Bias and poor attitudes toward guests never gets cast members far, so I can understand why this lady hosting the video is upset, bothered and unhappy. She's clearly xenophobic and thinks all guests are the same and is unhappy from her past poor experiences of certain guests leading to her bias. Disney is privately owned-public operating property by law, so, if cast members and/or leads and managers are doing something wrong, mishandling your situation or are unwarratedley rude- Film them with your phone and watch how they change their behavior. Per federal law, you can film at DW, even if they say no, policy wise and it's not a crime! Guests don't have to walk or move anywhere by someone's request or enter hallways. CM could never handle working in healthcare or being a respectable nurse. I hear socially that there is dislike between the "good cms" and the "bad cms," they always seem to be complaining about a type or subgroup of other cms, now I see why.
