- On May 1, 2004, ten countries joined the European Union: Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. It was the biggest enlargement in terms of people and number of countries in the EU's history.

@@tobeytransport2802 Not strictly speaking. Cyprus is in Asia for example, Georgia which has candidate status is Eurasian. The definition is a country either in Europe or very closely tied in culturally, which is the case for Cyprus (because of Greece). For the US not so much
