    Absolutely love this song. Classic. Skepta used to joke 'you know we blew this tune innit' because it caught fire and was vocalled by Skepta, Dizzee and Jammer. I think they gave a copy to their DJ (Maximum) and would just rinse it on their radio sets.

      Close mate (SE25) so I could get a crystal clear signal of upfront fm.
      Yep used to frequent SWAG also, as you say homer and that moody little blonde bird 😁😁
      Also wax city when it was next to safari cinema (god showing me age now) then when it moved up rhe road from swag.
      Loved apple though, with it's victorian feel as you went up those tight stairs to the top floor listening booths.
      Always used to think hatcha was apples answer to the moody bird from swag. 😁😁
      My mate Ray (although no contact in 20yrs) used to own the 2nd hand record shop in the in shops indoor market (now a lidls) just outside church st tram stop.
      Got rid of my vinyl about 15yrs ago and have spent the best part of this year building it back up, hoping my decks get delivered later so I can have a mix.
      Bought a collection of vinyl in the summer from a fella near to me (Bognor) and in it was hatchas 'badboy' and Mentas 'sound of the future' complete with apple sticker.
      Also as you mentioned I too was a garage head who loved DnB too but never went to a garage rave.. 😁😁
      Was down in Croydon over the weekend for my usual pre chrimbo friends and family meet up and had a walk/drive past the old haunts, shame in what it has become.

    How to find the notes underneath; low pass the entire track until you reach the point that the lower notes are sitting at, the turn up the rez on the filter to make these target notes stand out. Then stick a Tuner on the end. Doesn't always work cleanly, but usually you can find at least one or two notes and fill in the rest yourself.

    I don't think he was switching to a different key when he went from C to F. F is just the 4th in the key of Eb minor. A i-iv progression. He actually was switching keys in the chromatic part that one based on B minor I guess.

    I saw skream at Shambhala 2008, I think he was like 16 at the time, I was 16 too, he played the village on pk sound when they had these crazy powerful hornfolded subs (those speakers are illegal now) and he dropped some crazy bass that cleared out the village because it was destroying people ears, I dont know if the sound tech fucked up or the track hadn't been mastered on a big system plus the overkill subs... it was ruthless

  • @connorqdnb8090
    @connorqdnb8090 Před 3 lety +3

    Genuine question. Would it really be switching scales when going up to C? It seems like that’s more just part of the Chord progression being that c is also a perfect 5th away from F. Plus all notes in that C chord are still in F minors scale.
    Also would going down to E/B at the end of each section be the harmonic minor? Since that “mode” is just raising the 7th scale degree up a half step. But since you’re playing all the notes relative to that note which ends at each phrase E/B (all not related to the key of F) maybe that’s a different type of modal interchange?

    • @connorqdnb8090
      @connorqdnb8090 Před 3 lety +2

      Cool video though btw :)

    • @STRANJAH
      @STRANJAH  Před 3 lety +3

      You bring up a good point. To be more clear, I'm speaking of changing the bass key. The chords are still in the same scale (except when it changes one key down chromatically). I don't think going down the one note would be a harmonic minor only because the entire chord is shifted down one note chromatically. However, I'm open to be corrected by anyone who has better music theory.
      I'll also add that I think a lot of these tracks were written without much awareness of the theory, and more just going by the vibe. But its good to break it down to understand what is happening :-)

    • @connorqdnb8090
      @connorqdnb8090 Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah I agree, I don’t think he was Consciously thinking “ohh ok I’m gonna do this mode thing here” he was definitely just vibing. Just cool to break stuff down and understand what people have done as you know :) I also agree though that since the whole chord goes does to B / E (Not just the bass note) that it wouldn’t be harmonic minor but I wasn’t too sure either.
      Thanks Man 🙏🏻 🥁
