Are you about the OLD SKOOL or NEW SKOOL?
Both
im old school but play out still so im new schoool as well .
@@amenist cool usually its the other way around! But I like that, lots of new jungle coming out that's sick
@@TheRekkid nice!
@@xVILOx true me too
Love this, been wanting the 303 sound that I could program (rather than sample based). Thank you!
Love seeing you have fun in all the intros! No better channel for knowledge, tips, history, and respect for the classics - truly a don!
bigup!
Wow dude, thank you so much for that little piece of Winks. It really made my day.
So weird it took me 2 years to find this video, but so glad I did.
I have that track on vinyl and still bring it to every set I play. Best track ever.
Thanks for getting me started with the BL-303. Also, both riffs :)
Your lessons in the culture and history of dance music are invaluable. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Detroit Blues, wicked tune. Takes me back to the Renegade Hardware nights at the End.
This was a great video. Glad I watched this. When you sped up the 4/4 kick, it sounded really Happy Hardcore with the acid line, playing over it!
yeah its fun vibes!
Best 303 video and tutorial on CZcams. Plus a download with settings tweaked to get you started. I spent 3 days following tutorials to get this sound dialed in without success.... then found this vid and half an hour later i was away.
THANK You bro.
Brilliant stuff here! Exactly what i needed for my hardhouse stuff
Only watched about half of this and am finishing it now. I've been using Roland Cloud pro for about 3 months now and oh my god, absolutely worth it. Your video made me open up the TB-303 earlier...only for me to come back and see you cover it. Awesome! Going to make some old skool tonight thanks to this man
that's cool man good luck in the studio!
dude your videos are the best, each and every. big up.
fantastic as always
Great tutorial, thank you! I like the sound of both, but I think the Roland TB 303 sounds way better, because it has more depth and variety to the sound. Love it!💜
omg i love this tutorial sooooo much!!! thank you!! your melody is soooo good! id love more sounds like this
thank you!!
Ikr I was whipping my hair side to side in a crazed fashion
Super helpful vid thanks stranjah! ✌️
Love the 303 sound. I bought the Behringer TD-3 just for hours of fun knob twiddling!
lol sounds like my kind of valentines day
Great video mate ! 👍
After watching this twice, this is easily one of the best intro 303 videos on the Internet. Thank you, Stranjah!
Man that means a lot thank uou
@@STRANJAH I dig your cactus light!
@@STRANJAH the section on basic patterns was especially enlightening. I've really struggled with 303 patterns over the years and have fell in and out of using it in my music. I'm excited to get back in the studio this weekend with this new knowledge.
@@STRANJAH For the Roland Cloud 303 can you control glide/accent using velocity in the same way as with the Yooz VST? Is there a similar way to control glide/accent from Ableton's piano roll? Thanks!
@@vnayini hahah thank you, I needed a glowing neon light to feel like a true "CZcamsr"
Incredible tutorial thanks
Sick vid as usual!
Ahhhhh I just love this sound 😍😍😍
Haha great intro as always Stranjah!
Today, I will mostly be putting acid lines over some breakbeats. Nice video
I remember using the Propellerheads tb303 demo you could use it for free for like 30 mins. I used to make patterns and record them using a handheld tape recorder and then sample from that.
crazy good. thank you.
Old skool!! But also with some new skool sounds , really dig the 80s sounds, rave, lofi hip hop dust ;)
Amazing crunch you made the 303
Ok, so now I'm making a Higher State remix. I love this channel.
Awesome video, Thanx❗
Dope tutorial
Great video :)
Amazing how these commercial failures became such iconic instruments. Just like the TR 909 & the TR 808 they also were a flop
I can highly recommend the Phoscyon plugin by D16. The sound is superb and the price is reasonable. I just have to add something about the 303 and distortion. To listen to the authenticity of an emulation you have to turn off the distortion.
True I guess you can hear the nuances better
THANK YOU!
Absolute beast
love your videos i dont even make any dnb but your tutorials still helped me out a lot
always cool to hear that!
Wave arts is a beast, love that thing.
Its a hidden gem, the tones you can get out of it are fat.
You posted this video two days after O setup my Behringer TD-3 (fake 303) in Ableton, this is gonna be useful thx!!
welcome!
Acid forever baby! Visionary "Acid Flex", unsung hero in the DnB scene.
Fl studio has transistor bass which is a great 303 vst
higher state of consciousness is my mum's favorite tune lol
i was listening to that in the womb
aciiiiiiiiiiiid
Cool Stuff 💓
Grew up on higher state 🎉 killer tutorial bro!
ahhhhh yes The 303... always reminds me of the movie BLADE!
that track...
You did a great job in getting the best out of BL-303. Though there is still a huge difference to Roland's cloud VST.
My favorite TB-303 VST is ABL3 by Audio Realism. I use it for many years. I also own Phoscyon, which isn't bad, either. Roland's cloud TB-303 sounds great. Though, I don't see myself spending $150 for a TB-303 VST, when I can get a good sounding hardware clone for less and I am already owning ABL3 and Phoscyon. I'll wait for a deal.
Among the free ones, I like the Venom VB-303. Unfortunately, it is only available as a 32 bit Windows VST. The sound of the lesser known Acid Devil, which is part of the free RS-MET ToolChain, is also really nice. I find Acid Devil not very user friendly, though.
My kind of video Alan! =DDD
awesome video
Thank you !!!
dopeee skills
Thanks for sharing the Yooz, now i dont have to sweat to death when trying to make a good 303 in Abletons Analog :D TIME FOR ACID TECHNO!!
I'm Old School, Mid School and New School. I've never left the school of EDM!
Keep up the EDM history lessons, great addition to your content. I remember when the DJ used to drop Josh Wink's Higher State of Consciousness in the Legendary Hippo Club (Cardiff, Wales UK). The hair hair on the back of my neck would stand up, good times. Absolutely loving your intros dude!
Wow those must have been magical times!
+1 for the intros. Nothing like learning with a smile on your face.
@@nanob0zo music is about having fun anyways
@@STRANJAH That's all I'm doing it for
Sounds like we are in the same school bud lol ;)
I used to own an actual real Roland TB-303 Bassline, a friend borrowed it off me and I never got it back even though he said he did give it back to me, was really kicking myself for a few years for it, but then I found a few good software replacements for it, one was Image Line's (they're the makers of FL Studio) Transistor Bass, Gsonique's Alien303, D16's Phoscyon, and the one I just bought today Audio Blast's Acidbox V2.
Arturia Acid V & AudioRealism Bass Line 3 are my fav software 303 emulations.
I prefer the Yooz as there's not so many abrasive frequencies coming through at the higher cutoff levels.
Love your vids man big ups
Would be great to see you do a vid on anything from Sully's recent EP's 'Swandive' or UH-02, think he uses phasers on his drums but would love to see you have a go at it! 🤙
I have to be honest I liked the Yooz as well
Aaaah man the signature Sully drumsound
Thanks brother
You never disappoint
Have you tried Venom VB-303? It has a similarly confounding workflow like the original 303. It's only 32-bit though. Also, great Dad humor in the intro ;)
I remember rocking that Josh Wink CD in my discman on the bus in high school
oh man me tooo
I did enjoy my Sony Discman, but you had to walk really slowly for out not to jump or skip!
@STRANJAH For the Roland Cloud 303 can you control glide/accent using velocity in the same way as with the Yooz VST? Is there a similar way to control glide/accent from Ableton's piano roll? Thanks!
bl sound good wow
Perfect 😎👌👏
Yes, sound of TB303 is unique. Thanks for demo.Brixton?SW2
Liked and subscribed.
Propellerhead used to offer a free download of a bit of software called Rebirth that you could download from their Rebirth Museum, but I don't think it's available anymore, it included two virtual TB-303s a virtual TR-808 and a virtual TR-909 as well as some fx, the downside was that it only ran on Windows 98SE or Mac OS9.
I really like the Danny Scrilla tune Tell Dem. I think he uses 303 but slowed down
Your melody, for sure 👍, And the Roland sounds miles better, IMO.
Roland sounds awesome but I think I'll try out the BL 303, My fave is the ALB303 though Phoscyon form d16 can get pretty narley :)
Heard good things about those ones!
I’d love a tutorial on how to create acid lines using a regular soft synth 😊
I'm a huge Acid fan ! You did a great job with this video ! It sounds serious even with free vsts ! I'm using Phoscyon and ABL3 for software instruments and a xOxbOx for hardware instrument. I love the Acid sound !
will have to check those plugins!
Have not heard of Phoscyon? Abl3 I have heard about, a little expensive though.
the roland sounds very rounded balanced, while the bl sounds TOXIC^^. can´t even say which one i prefer.
i just started with reaper a week ago and got that BL - 303 vst, what can i say....im addicted.
Hi @STRANJAH I love this tutorial, thank you for this. I have one question/issue: I can't get BL-303s cut off to map to a macro knob. Any idea how to make this happen?
Eeeek , check the manual! As I'm not sure myself!
Hey STRANJAH an possibility you could make a how to video on a DJ LOONY bass pleeeaase probably really simple but can’t get my head around it haha
LOL ok 6 min in and this was exactly my approach for 303 (except for the tube saturator, so downloading that as we speak 🤣). Valhalla is great yeah (but I use it on virtually everything).
Quality
Thanks ! Have you tried the new acid box plugin from Audioblast ?
I have not, someone else mentioned it, I'll have a look
This is what i needed :D
I'm still waiting for the 'You got me' King of the rollers Reese, its insane
#metoo
weeeeeeeeeeeelcome to a hiiiiiiiiiiigher staaaaaaaaaate of coooooooooncioussssssnessssssssss! ur a fiend stranjah love it
There's also a really good one called ABL3 and it's free and easy to get used to! I'd advise putting some distortion on it tho ;)
will check it out!
hmm is it really free? perhaps the older versions? can u share a link if so? just checked the website and i think only the demo version is free
Sorry to be that bloke but it's called Substance Abuse by FUSE (Richie Hawtin).... Anyway factoid it contains a sample from Mr Kirk's Nightmare by 4 Hero which is a sample from a weird 70's record about the dangers of not listening to your parents.
just for those of you that have only ever seen what a 303 can do on youtube it is capable of really subtle beautiful sounds as well. ive no idea why tubers seem to only show acid as horrifically distorted ear bleeding 150bpm trash its such a betrayal of the original acid sound. if you want some great examples of this listen to luke viberts "big soup" lp
You bring up a good point, the 303 sounds beautiful without the distortion, I'll make a point of that if I ever revisit the 303. For this one I was focused on remaking certain sounds so I must admit I did overlook that.
dont forget all the works of plastikman, richie def showed how emotional the 303 can be as a melodic instrument
@𝕱𝖑𝖚𝖋𝖋𝖆𝖑𝖔 1҉7҉ 🪓🐇 you sound like you dont actually know anything about music
tard
I don’t doubt that the 303 is cable of some other interesting sounds like any synth. However, you must understand or remind yourself that the 303 is famous for that acid house sound alone, which is why majority of CZcamsr make videos around it, because it’s the most popular sound and people love it!
It's hard to say which sounds best because you put more distortion on the Roland one, making it hard to compare them. But they both sound good.
what plugins were using before yooz that made your notes deeper and bouncy?
My brain is telling me the TB sounds better, maybe because I know it's the official one... but I really like the BL too, that resonance sounds great!
More tutorials on Old Dog techniques plz
your intro is too funny !!!
glad you enjoyed it!
wow i love free! u got a sub thx for the info i prefer old skool acid house
The Roland 303 definitely has more grit to it with the frequency cut off
Its funny how techno is all about saving money and making use of cheap unwanted hardware, yet people these days are spending literally thousands, to sound like it 😄
Btw, josh winks higher state is by far the best 303 track apart from operation blade.
Why don't we bring it back under the name of Lo-Fi Techno?
A few have said this man but I need to reiterate that this is a big tutorial sir. I’ve been on a 303 mission for a while and this was really helpful.
I thought the Roland one sounded best and I’m old school acid, Fast Eddie Acid Thunder😋
Coped the Gnarly waves as I went with Vital over Serum, can’t wait for a Kontakt and Serato Sample twist out✊
Glad to get the seal of approval from a 303 head!
How do I use the 303 vst if my macbook says cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified? I'm new to vst's. Would appreciate if there's still a way to use?
ayy stranjah can u help me i use ableton and i hear clicking from the one shots i use.. how can i get rid of them
Holy fuck, old Stanjah looking fly
lol I hope I look that good when I reach that age!
@@STRANJAH you and me both man
Rebirth was also very good TB like sw instrument but it was standalone maybe there was some link to old Reason.
Yeah, I think the Roland is better but the trouble for most people would be having to pay monthly for the cloud :( Would be great if Roland could sell individual bits of soft ware.
dimension likes this video
That intro LOL xD
Little bit xtra distortion over that kick and you got yourself a nice teKno track ;)
true
dude, how I can install the Bl 303 VST in my Mac? I don't understand the instructions :(
Nice sound! Does using multiple vst’s put a strain on the computer.
Thx and no because I have a decent computer. You also don’t have to spend a lot for a decent computer these days (PC that is)
STRANJAH ok I probably have an inferior computer to your decent one so I won’t be using this method.
