- The temple is home to the Adi Granth, or Original Holy, book which is a collection of hymns of the great saints. The book is a focus of devotion and during the day is kept in the Hari Madhir Sahib and is returned to the Akal Takhat every evening at around 9.15pm in winter and 10.15pm in the summer.
There is Palki Sahib ceremony at the Golden temple in Amristar takes place twice in a day. Palki sahib ceremony is when the holy book Guru Granth Sahib is carried to a room in Akal Takhat for night rest.This is a symbolic gesture.
The holy singing is stooped, and special hymns are read by the priest and the book is closed and after performing the prayer the book is placed in a golden palanquin which is carried by all the devotees who are lined up to take seva, it all happens amidst chanting and reciting of hymns, one man blow trumpet,It so spectacular and spiritual.
In the morning again same ceremony is being held when the Guru Granth sahib is taken back to the Temple,and the book is opened randomly and right page is read by the reader that is {hukamnama} the order of day.Every one listen to that respectfully.

DR SCHNEIDER you should watch what you say what you are calling a book is our holy book sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is not God but our guidance towards God. We respect it as our living Guru. If you don't know the history of Sikhism the don't write nonsense. If we are people with least intelligence then what are you. The video you watched is from harmandir Sahib let me give you some facts about harmandur sahib,it feeds a massive number of 50,000 people a day just imagine, everybody is welcome without cast, religion no poor person sleeps hungry. Poverty in this world is increasing because of selfish and greedy people. Whichever gurudwara you go to there will always be langar (free kitchen) for everyone. Now do you call this the least intelligent people?????
