First things first, we need to address the elephant in the room - the absolutely huge vertical grille! Yes, we know it’s not to everyone's taste, but you can’t deny that the rest of the updates to both the exterior and interior make up for it, right?!
Still not convinced? Well even if the looks aren’t to your liking, we know one thing that will be… the specs! Both cars are powered by a 3-litre straight-six, and with the competition pack included they’ll produce 510hp, 650Nm (100Nm MORE than the previous generation) and will hit 60mph in less than 4 seconds!

I'm always a little suspicious when a motoring journalist is at an event hosted by and staffed by the manufacturer and they're a bit gushing and overly positive. Like they are just being nice to keep the manufacturer on side.

i think in top gear the cars are given to them by the manufacturer
so they do get early access but they only have to cover positives and just ignore the negatives

There are a few small elements that make it less ugly then on the regular versions:
- The 2 grills are more separated (normal version looks like the 2 grills are merged and it's just one element)
- Some angles of the grills are slightly different then normal version- it's almost unnoticeable but it does make a different
- The vents which Mat already noticed

AWD over 100kgs heavier and grown in size, the M3 has become a mini M5 now.
The M2 is technically the closest car to what the M3 originally set out to be.

nah m3 is 4 door sports car currently, before it used to be both a coupe but for this generation and previous one a m3 is a four door car, the m2 is like a 1m.

Had the F80 and loved it, much more aggressive looking than the M4. Reminds me of the old 4 door RS4 which was a beast with its wide arches. Didnt like the new M3 at first glance but its growing on me. I thought i would miss the big scoop in the bonet but this does look really nice. The green isnt for me mind!. This with its 4WD will be awesome. I have the X3M now with this engine in and its lovely to drive.

I think thats the look they tried to pull of from the very beginning and they tried to desensitise people by making them slightly bigger every year till they can pull this off. I quiet like it and its much better than something like the new 7 series.

I personally think the grille looks brilliant on the m4 and m3. Though I would always opt for a coupe. And for the record, I have a degree in Automotive design :)

OK, no more tooting noises from the exhaust. I'm onboard again. Especially after seeing the grill with a modified front bumper. AND they finally figured out how to keep the top from having all the creases in it! Thank you 911 for that inspiration.
First time in 4 years and changing every 10 months going through all Competition versions and all in coupe apart from recent X4MC for my wife and ending on M8C finally I’m going for 4 doors...New M3C in Sao Paolo Yellow and Blue Interior in full spec and so on...CAN’T WAIT!!!

I have a 2018 F80. when I heard the G80 was going to have AWD in manual, I decided instantly I would buy another M3.

brought back good old memories of my silver 2002 M3 SMG bought in 2002 in Silicon Valley CA racing and cruising on HW101. It had the first LC in a M3 and was a blast a few times

Beautiful car. Love the front grills. Looks fresh and bang up today. At last BMW has the guts to move on. Unlike some other German brands. Looks exactly like the old one but charge you a premium because it’s a “NEW” model.

My personal choice is the M3 Comp too, it just seems to have more details to the body panels and definitely get the carbon package and carbon race seats.

It's one of that cars that grow on you over time, like the E60. Typically, these cars are successful.
That V10 made the E60 very special in terms of power delivery as well as sound. Its like the Bud Spencer of fast saloon cars and i just fail to see something outstanding about the newer models.

I’ve ordered the m3 competition pack in red with the dark grey and black interior I’ll be using it to develop modified parts for upgrade packages from fast road to competition use. Then I’ll be keeping it as my daily driver

It's now two generations after the E90/E92 M3 and still nothing convinces me to ditch my E92 if favor of this G80. Well.. admittingly the interior is much nicer. But I like the sort of understated look of the E92 , the sound of the v8, the bulge in the bonnet.
The camera in between the kidneys looks like a cheap after thought, surely they could have made it blend into the kidney grill somehow

If old school and you want a True Sports Car, by definition pick the 2 door Coupe. If you have a family buy the 4 door. In the 50s 60s & 70s two doors were for the young making a statement. In contrast, a 4 door car perception was for old people. I am now old, but I purchased a 21 M440i Convertible. So, what does that make me? 😊
