BMW fanboys, this one’s for you… All-new G80 BMW M3 Competition vs a tuned F80 BMW M3!
Now we all know the new BMW M3 has come under a fair bit of criticism due to you-know-what up front. But surely we’re all over that by now, right? Well even if you’re not, you can’t argue with the performance stats! With a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six hiding under the bonnet, the new M3 can put down 510hp and 650Nm of torque.
But how about the tuned F80? Well it’s also packing a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six, but after being tuned it’ll produce 700hp & 950Nm of torque!!
So what do you think - will the tuned M3 be able to put its power down? Or will the new M3 grip to the track better? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

@@blabla-pu5fg No chance? The german TV series "Grip - Das Motormagazin" dragraced the 1001 hp MTM RS6 against a 1000 hp M5 Hurricane and guess who lost - the M5. Would be still interesting to see how an M5 with a Evolve tune stacks up against the MTM.
I love how the anonymous faceless F80 driver stopped the car behind the A pillar to remain being an anonymous faceless driver. We'll never see Yianni pull that off because he would never dare deprive the world of the view that is his face.
lesson of the story: traction beats all.
This is drag racing resumed for the last decade to be honest. People acting surprised when a car with 4wd outlaunches a more powerful 2 wheel drive car.
I think if you're going to have over 500 hp, you really need AWD to make use of it - unless it's a true sports car like a Ferrari or Lambo.
To be fair, it's also better engineering and more tech. Superior gear ratios, better transmission, etc.

I think it's looking dated. The E92 is even more dated, but it still looks better than either of these cars.

It’s not about money always it’s about class.. now yes the E92 might look dated but it’s a beautiful car, the F80 was an amazing successor to the E90 (4 door one), cuz E92 successor is F82. But this new Sunday BBQ grill.. I mean M3/4 has a beautiful interior and awesome looking back, but ugliest front in the world. But luckily check out a company called Prior Design and them lot have solved the issue nicely, I’m sure both the F & G fans will agree on that design
I will always choose kidney grills over the lung grills.

E36 > F80 > E46 > E90 > E30. Time will tell where the G80 fits.

For 700hp that was very disappointing! Nice that it's faster at higher speeds but we all know what that does with our driver license...

The f series 3/4 series BMWs were the best in my opinion. Unique headlights, awesome rear end and side view, decent interior, awesome i6, nice grills and very very special M sport intakes on the sides of the front bumpers.

The launch has little to do with the dual clutch Matt.
Unless it’s slipping, it’s down to gearing, traction, power characteristics, and reaction time... and probably electronics in these cars.
The throttle and boost mapping is much better on the G80
I pretty sure that the new car was all wheel drive vs the older version 2 wheel drive. That made the difference off the line.

I can’t stand turbo lag which is why I’m all about the NA.
I love NA but he's confusing boost threshold with turbo lag. Boost thresholds no different to a car hitting its power band, very few cars pull hard from 2000rpm.

But there‘s just no point at all in that top-gear-test without knowing the full gearing ratios … the newer one could just have an even lower gearing ratio on it’s final gear meaning it‘s very economical in that gear

@7:19 that is the reason why in germany every added part (like a frontsplitter) to the car has to been checked by TÜV before you install it. thinking of throwing your splitter rear wing or something like that on the German Autobahn. 190+ mph are allowed here...
A recommendation to do half mile races along with quarter miles. It would be fun to see and you just have to keep going for a bit
I’d love to see some of these tuned cars hold up to a few hours of hard track driving.
From what I’ve seen at various track days, they tend to over heat and/or go into limp mode....
think the M5 Evolve tunes car they've had on a few times has even had a flaky just running up and down the runway for carwow. Definitely feels like their participation in these drag races doesn't do them any good

@@120Livi Here we go with another one of these clueless comment. Which tuned M5 are you referring to? The blue one has issues because of the ghost immobilizer and that was LLF’s. The one without the immobilizer(The one Evolve Owns) has had no issues at all and it was one of the fastest cars on carwow. Clearly you ignorant fools just keep blabbing nonsense without doing proper research.
Because they are crap tuners, I have a stage 2 tuned RS3 on E85 never had 1 problem ever. Have tracked the car also. Go to a decent tuner and you won't have these problems

Buddy of mine just got the new M3 and he’s loving it so far!
I don't get why he is always like "Ewww" about torque convertor transmissions.. 8HP is being used in high performance BMW for years like M5 M6 etc and they always perform super good and shifting speed is on par with DCT. Its just placebo.
It's the same with the Aisin box in low end BMWs. "ouch, the gear changes are so hard!" in the meantime: "we want the hard gear shifts from old M3 DCT back". That's quality journalism
