- In this video I demonstrate how to do four simple serves. These serves are ideal for beginner players as they are easy to learn and execute. You will learn how to add different spins to the ball by changing your bat angle and swing trajectory. In the video I demonstrate a backspin serve, a topspin serve, a sidespin serve and a no spin serve.

Me and my competitor both watching this video together we have match day after tomorrow 😅😅 it's very Useful Thanks ❤😂
Not 1 player, coach ever told me how to start learning how to serve, these basics will become very handy to me, it will put my arsenal of serves on higher level. Much obliged, Tom.🙏
Good info
Thats cool notpyrc
Very good guide. To anyone beginner wondering what to expect as a standard return (assuming you play against a beginner/amateur):
1) Backhand serve: If you served short, expect a short backhand chop. If you served long, expect a long backhand chop from a beginner or a top spin attack from an intermediate+
2) Top spin: Except as fast play unless you are against a very beginner which should end-up with the ball out of the table or very-high&easy-to-return.
3) Side spin: If short, expect a short chop on the opposite side. If long, expect the table to barely return (LOL) as this is a very effective serve.
4) Flat: If your opponent judges it correctly, be prepared for a very fast return.
Of course this is all conjecture and will NOT apply to all opponent.
Good additional information. Thank you.

Thank you sir
Great tips - thanks. Been playing at work socially and will start using these techniques in the mixed. Excited!
As a beginner just starting to play table tennis in the VR game "Eleven", I'd really appreciate an explanation on why you should learn these shots and what the effect may be on the return shot. i.e. "If you serve with a lot of top spin, the opponent will have less time to react and the return ball is likely to bounce very high" or whatever. Therefore, If I try a top spin serve and it bounces up high from the opponent, I'll know I did it right.
This is amazing thank you so much!
Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Topspin serve is what I mostly do.
I usually do
Serve chop chop forehand then spin
Very important for beginners and you have nicely explained and demonstrated... Great..
He's a legend
THank you Tom. i am not beginner but we can always learn!
Suddenly I open this video and this serves helps me
Buen Video
very good Tom . what bat and rubbers do you use?
thank you so much coach
good teacher
Good video as usual Tom.
Hi from Oz.
I’m not great at reading serves.
In first year of fixtures after playing at home.
I have moved a bit further back from the table to receive to give me more time.
I basically expect a flat, topspin serve as a starting point but if the bounce is low and skidding then I go for a push.
I think that's a sensible approach. This will give you a bit more time to read what the spin is. Over time it does get easier to read the service spin.
Nice Video
@ my senior club 95% of players use the same serve days in days out , should watch your tutorial. The easiest way to respond the flat and heavy serve is simply blocking ...boomerang effect is a winner
If you allow the ball to fall extremely close to the table top on a no spin serve before making contact you should be able to get a very flat low trajectory no spin serve to the baseline. I have found this variation the best no spin serve.
I am using this technique in my office table tennis and it's quite effective.
How do I pickup these serves??
I didn't understand the backspin serve plz make another vid abt it
my mind : i can do this!
my wrist : 🤨
Where can I get an ittf coaching course
I dont know if you still reply to comments but what paddle are you using?
Great video Tom! I have a question is butterfly timo boll 3000 a good bat? What paddle do you use?
I've not used a Timo Boll 3000, so can't comment on this. I use a JOOLA Fever blade, with JOOLA Rhyzer 48 on BH and JOOLA Dynaryz AGR on FH.
@@TomLodziak how much does that cost?
@@elijahobrien6340 The cost for this one is around £180.
@@TomLodziak oh okay thanks that might be a little out of budget for me… do you have any cheaper recommendations for me I’m a amateur/intermediate player?
@@elijahobrien6340 I have some recommendations on my website which might help www.tabletenniscoach.me.uk/best-table-tennis-bats-for-intermediate-players/
left/right sidespin?
what about height point above the table when you hit the ball?
Try to make contact with ball around net height, this will keep the serve low over the net.
I have a question.
When you hit the ball, is it necessary for it to go into one of the corners of the table? Or can it go anywhere on it?
If you're playing singles, it can go anywhere. If you're playing doubles, you have to cross like you would in tennis.
Hey, can you recommend what racket should i buy? Between 50-100 eur
Here's some recommendations: www.tabletenniscoach.me.uk/best-table-tennis-bats-for-intermediate-players/
First comment from your best fan brother 🖐🏼
I drop the ball and hit it works for me
👏👏👍👍
I tend to combine nospins with nospins. This is killing the oponents.
Where do you aim the ball on your side of the table?
At what height do you aim to hit the ball?
Thanks 🙏
For the backspin, sidespin and no spin serves, you can aim the first bounce roughly middle of the table. For the topspin serve, you should aim the first bounce closer to the end of the table. Try to contact the ball around net height.
What are good rackets I could buy? I have a school one and it’s not that good
I have some advice on this page: www.tabletenniscoach.me.uk/table-tennis-equipment/
so whats the point of different serves? cause i play badminton and im curious and different serves at table tennis
different serves have different spins
specific spins need specific blocks
Which serve do you use yourself?
I have this little simple flat no-spin serve that runs down the right side and some players have so much trouble with it. Constant overhits, nets, it just befuddled them. Others destroy it 🤣
Yes, a no-spin serve can be hugely effective against some opponents. It's very satisfying when an opponent mis-reads the spin!
'Others destroy it". That's been my experience. :(
What rubbers do you use? I use a mack 5
I use JOOLA Rhyzer 48 on my BH and JOOLA Dynaryz AGR on my FH.
Whenever I try some of these serves the ball bounces super high and flies over the table, do you know why?
It could be that you re hitting the ball too hard. Try brushing the ball more. The spin will help keep the ball on the table. Or it could be that you are contacting the ball too high above the table, causing the ball to bounce too high. Let the ball drop to around net height and then make contact. This will help you keep the ball low over the net and prevent you overhitting the serve.
@@TomLodziak thanks a lot that helped a bunch!
I son my first table tennis vevside of you
Backspin serve
Topspin serve
Sidespin serve
Nospin serve
cool shit
9:02
6:35
8:50 ball disappears
two hand plank ; beaded the reason NOT sweatlier
No how does ur ball go so low my one goes so high when you do the swirl
Just to be clear, what option would be the best?
At very low levels, any of these serves are likely to be effective. Try them out and see which works best for you. Ideally you will develop a few different service variations, as this will be much more challenging for your opponents.

When showing serves have the camera behind you
I hope you can give me some rockets even is already use because the table tennis is the only sport made my life color
Backspin 1:46, topspin 3:08, sideserve 3:46,
they say I'm good at serving but sucks at smashing
I'm beginner ,😭😭😭
Wrong sidespin😂😂😂😂
It bouncee twice in one lane
Thanks you for this Tom 🫂
Thank you sir
