4 killer serves to destroy your opponents (with Craig Bryant)

  • In this video, top coach and service expert, Craig Bryant, explains how to do four of his best serves.
    These include...
    - The kicker
    - Fast down the line
    - Super wide sidespin
    - The ghost serve
    For each serve, Craig explains how to do the action and gives tips on how to use the serves to put your opponents under maximum pressure.
    These serves are horrible to return. In the video, you'll see that I make lots of errors.
    They do require a lot of practise, but if you can get good at these serves, you will have some great service weapons to destroy your opponents.

    • @briandrake9
      @briandrake9 Před 5 lety +15

      He is standing in very much the same spot. From my experience (a low rated player who can enjoys putting fear in the hearts of higher rated players), changing the position right before a serve and then serving from various lengths away from the table and angles messes with club players who have been trained to expect the standard, close to the table serves, from what I have experienced. The pro trainer makes these serves look easy but it takes years and years of serving practice to get where he is. Great tips, though. The slow motion is helpful because he gets so much action with quick movements that are hard to see in real time. Thank you for video, Tom! @@TomLodziak

      @@briandrake9 The Slow motion isn't even slow enough. I get that he wants to show his frontal view for the perspective of the opponent. The problem is there is NOT enough closeup of the paddle's contact point to be able to figure out what is going on.
      Sooooooooo, I guess I need to revamp the way I hold the paddle and learn the open palm legal.table tennis serve to be able to absorb this. Admittedly, it does seem the way to go and could change up.my entire ping pong philosophy mannerisms.

    Craig, I have finally mastered the kicker serve. I have something that you might want to try. You approach the serve from under the ball when you flick your wrist for topspin. I found that if you start your racket high and under you armpit and descend down to the ball to flick your wrist up just as it passes the ball at table level, it makes it look even more like backspin and makes it almost impossible to read. Let me know if you give it a try and thanks for this serve! I am developing the same serve from the backhand side as well . You can create it by doing the same thing you do with the forehand but face the table straight on when you move your paddle from right to left and down into the ball as you flick the wrist up. Have you tried this way yet?

      Hi Richard,
      A good observation and you’re right that you may well be able to get more kick / topspin. The issue with doing it that way, is that you lose the possibility of creating backspin. So by starting below the ball, you can only go upwards and then you give your opponent a real opportunity to take advantage of the serve. So that’s why I try to stay behind the ball, so that I can create some doubt between backspin and topspin.
      What you’ve done is great though, so much of serving is experimenting with what might work and what things could work for you and your game. Keep experimenting and good luck with your serves. 👍

    The high toss is very useful if you can master it. More energy means more spin or speed. Unlike a normal toss, you can create a decent amount of top spin just by letting the ball roll down the paddle. This can also make a no-spin serve look like backspin. The main problem is consistency, since it's easy to miss the ball when there's an air current or a bright light up above.
