I can't stress enough how *good* this movie is. The sword fight at the end is freakin' awesome. The guy that played Sho also played Jerec from Jedi Knight. Interesting bit of trivia for the old school gamers in the audience.

I think the lack of a story is one of this movie's strengths. A lot of movies got to (often) too much trouble to explain the backstory, and end up suffering for it because they paint themselves in to a corner and sometimes end up with plot holes and contradictions, or it comes off as bad writing. With Steel Dawn, they pretty much say "This is the world we are in right now. That's it."

Post apocalyptic movies are so damn good to me. They don't age because they are mainly practical effects and its always possible it could of happened in another timeline well besides the mutants anyway. I think thats why I like them the most.

Got the Blu-Ray for 7 bucks down here in Germany. The label releases all kinds of awesome 80's and 90's action flicks. I recommend them releases for everyone who owns a region free player or some other device to watch them. DigiDreams with their Platinum Cult Collection and their Classic Cult Collection. There's always a bus load of extras on the discs, and the PCE's come with a booklet, but it's in German.

If you don't mind watching anime, there's a post-apocalyptic martial arts series named Fist of North Star. The main character uses a pressure points based style that makes his enemies explode. If you don't want to watch 200 episodes, there are 5-6 movies that re-tell the story. Avoid the live-action version starring Gary Daniels (or watch it for a good laugh).
