Hey Vahagn, Check out Matt Irwins review of the 28-400 lens (pre-production). The photos and video both look pretty good, even at nightime. Certainly not an S lens, but doesn't look like a slacker either.

There are still Nikon authorized dealers in the US that don’t charge tax as it used to be the case with B&H, Adorama, Amazon, etc. I’ve bought Nikon gear from them online, one in particular, and paid no tax or shipping. And if you wait for the item you want to go on sale from Nikon they sell at that price as well so you can save a lot. You can download a list of Nikon authorized dealers to check which ones are the real deal so you don’t have to worry about having a warranty that will not be honored by Nikon.

Not rushing out to replace my f mount 28-300 f3.5-5.6. Would have preferred a direct z mount replacement for the 28-300mm.

I don’t think Nikon meant for this to be a professional level lens. I think this is meant for enthusiasts and hobbyists. According to some reviewers it will be a great carry around when on vacation. I agree an 800 - 900 dollars would have been much better.

Yes, $800-$900 would be so much more reasonable.

What other lenses can you combine for 28-400 coverage, that total under $1500?

Heard this lens is like super long waiting list.

This lens sounds interesting for a travel/vacation lens but I'm not sure about the price.

For me this would be ideal when travelling outback or coastal via air, due to weight limitations. I’d pair it with my Viltrox 13mm 1.4, 24mm 1.7 and probably my 8mm fish (F2) only because it’s tiny and fun. Thanks for the video. 😊

The 24-200mm does a pretty good job so maybe they can pull of the same thing with 28-400mm. But the high f/ numbers suggest you need good daylight. But indeed the price is to high.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think this lens should have come at $800. I think I paid close to $900 two years ago for the Nikon Z 24-200mm f 4-6.3. In fact, I'm thinking of trading that lens for the new Z 28-400mm f4-8.

    Bought
Bought the lens, tested it on a day with nice weather and brought it back. Not worth this price. My Z 24-200mm is definitely better.

This is a kid’s sport, outdoor only, lens. Period! I’ve been shooting landscapes for many years, I’d never take this as my lens of choice for family outings. I’d take a wide angle and iPhone for family trips.

f/8 is too slow. I’ll stick with my 28-300mm
