    As a singer working on this aria and a bel canto technique, I have to say that Maestro Fisher is very inspiring. He clearly understands singing deeply, despite not being a singer himself. This allows for subtle instruction, where the singer is led by a combination of their intuition and reception to the teacher’s ideas. Something many others miss in their comments, is that Maestro Fisher is full of praise for the tenor’s voice. This encouragement is not misplaced and I would go as far as suggesting that it is one of the main reason’s for the improvement the singer shows. A trusting relationship with a supportive teacher can draw the best out of a singer. I’ve experienced it countless times.

    A Good Masterclass. A talented young tenor working through his technique and musicianship with a master teacher inside an aria. A shame he has to be judged as if he is a finished product and as if you all think your opinions could somehow make him Pavarotti. Come on guys, look in the mirror, there’s a reason you all pass off pompous opinions here and aren’t out teaching or singing for a living. Perhaps consider working on your own voices and put away your jaded hearts in 2020. I think it will heal that hurt you have inside. All your “keeping it real” opinions here do no service to anyone. They are only meant to tear down. Look inside and you’ll discover that.

    This guy is a legit leggero tenor. He is young and talented, and never claims to be a final product. I identify with many of the things he calls issues. Great masterclass. Really constructive.
    All the people piggybacking on the recent macho tenor trend fostered by hostile CZcams channels, please get a pair of ears. This is a voice that carries easily in a theater. Lighter tenors are NOT supposed to sound as deep and dark as full lyric tenors. And to those saying that he is singing off his voice? Are you people deaf.

      He needs to cover the voice though. Il giro della voce at least for the High C, other than that, his singing is great for this repertoire.

    • @tenorcarloscol
      @tenorcarloscol Před 4 lety +2

      @@Darksaga28 The notes above A are already flipped. The cover does not sound the same in all the voices. Leggero tenors' "giro" is not as perceptible as a heavier tenor's.

      No, he is an underdeveloped tenor, lacking chest, and singing everything nasally in head voice. With this technique, his voice will get whiter, more pushed and more nasal over the years, until its completely ruined.

    I like that the maestro Fisher didn't turn the masterclass to a comedy show, the standard today, it is so ashiming for the young singers. Unfortunately Fisher is not a singer, he would find the exact turning point to show the student to sing effortlessly. But he is a great talent... good luck for the future.

    What ridiculous comments about this young tenor’s ‘problems.’ I have paid to hear so-called world-class opera singers fudge coloratura and present far worse vocalising than I’m hearing here in this masterclass. Let’s encourage genuine talent like this instead of showing off with pedagogical BS criticisms.

    THE VERY LAST FRASE SHOULD BE " NANAAAA"...NOT "NONAAAA". THIS WONDERFUL TENOR LEAVES A WONDERFUL "A" SOUND BEFORE THIS LAST FRASE THAT SHOULD PERMIT HIM TO BE ALREADY PERFECTLY PLACED TO ATTACK THIS LAST FRASE. THE WORD "NON" DISPLACES THE VOICE AND OF COURSE THE EFFORT IS HUGE COMPARED TO THE EASE HE WOULD HAVE BY SINGING "NANAAAA" , "THINKING "NONAAAA" IS ENOUGH TO ACHIEVE THIS OF COURSE THIS IS ESSENTIAL FOR MIDDLE HIGH AND HIGH NOTES, NO MATTER THE "FACH" OF THE SINGER.

      That's right. Larynx is too high, and no chest refinance mixed in for a fuller, more natural tone. Only constricted "head". COULD, as you point out, be a full lyric voice, potentially. But I doubt anyone is going to guide him towards it. The timbre is very pleasant

    • @AdamPUnger
      @AdamPUnger Před 4 lety +9

      Lupo A. Janelli no one will guide him to it because 95% of voice teachers are nothing but charlatans

    • @timothyf9040
      @timothyf9040 Před 4 lety +7

      I disagree that he is singing off of his voice. It'snot breathy and his coloratura is definitely connected to his body as the sound continues to spin through each melismatic phrase. It's interesting hearing the first High C compared to the final one and for that I do agree that the Larynx is too high at points. If he wasn't singing on his voice he wouldn't be able to sing the High C that long at the end. That being said it's definitely not perfect. Let's not forget that this aria is deceptively challenging and sits in the passaggio for most of it and there are many tenors who don't attempt any High C. Also, this video is of a masterclass and a public one at that. It's easy for us to judge and to point out mistakes but we are still watching a very talented young singer. Sure his voice has tension at points but maybe this was a bad day with allergies or wasn't feeling 100%. I do agree that his voice could continue to grow into more lyric repertoire but it makes sense for him to work on lighter repertoire while he is still growing, and especially when his voice has such a greater leggiero quality to it! Bravo Josh!

  • @OGrauMusic
    @OGrauMusic Před 3 lety +3

    Beautiful voice and promise if he improves, but his technique is always in tension (neck, high larynx, voice too open, goat, nasal, lack of legato, underdeveloped thoracic capacity, he only uses pelvic floor (Yoga discipline) for support that also It generates tension in his neck (connects with his spine), he forgets intercostals and pectoral area for better support, etc.)
    Now he is young and his voice strong, but without a good technique his career will not be fruitful. He must find true singing teachers, renowned and professional career on stage, and not waste time (something very important in a singing career)

      i agree with you, these masterclass is quite good, but all these musical refinement should come later. If he learn to stabilise a deeper larynx position for the Passaggio and higher without forcing he could sing effortlessly. Bergonzi explained very well his famous "sul fiato".

      Do you say the same thing to the different musical instrument master classes? Your having your own mouth and vocal cords does not make you to be qualified to judge singers and teachers. At least the singer was not as nasal as he was in the beginning with the help of this teacher.
