Michael didn't change his nose to look white. He says his father used to always make fun of it and he never liked his nose. The complexion was because he had vitiligo and bleached his whole skin so it would all be one color, rather than patches of white. I'm not sure about the hair, but from what I remember, Michael never had intentions of being white.

I was just watching a past interview and she said that her parents were abusive to her and her adopted (black) siblings. Eventually she was assigned as the sibling's guardian because he said that her home was more culturally aware (or something to that effect). I think that is partly why she claimed to be black: to distance herself from her parents and become closer to her siblings. I do think she would have been accepted in the black community because its certainly be done before. All in all i don't think she meant any harm. This was my professor at Eastern Washington University in winter quarter. Dolezal was actually a very great teacher when it came to African American history, culture, and community. As a person, she called me out for the statement I had made where I explained that the fight for equality was still going today. Even going as far as claiming that I was just another White male who didn't understand what I was talking about because there was no statistics and I was apart of the oppressive race. I struggled with that for a long time because I am active when it comes to supporting equal rights for everyone. When I found out she was white I was in shock because of how far of lengths she went to cover up her stories, even bringer her youngest "son" into our class because he had been getting threats as well. Even if her goal was for the greater good, there should be no reason to lie in order to make a change. Dolezal, you can still be White and support Black rights. No reason to lie.
