I hope I'm not too late for Impulse to see this, but in your subway game, when you put the soul sand and honey blocks under certain sections of the sidewalk, you should give some sort of visual indicator like a subtle change in texturing.
Keen-eyed players will notice the connection, and other players will form a subliminal association between that change and the game rules and be able to play accordingly.
It can make the difference between players getting upset at something that feels random vs feeling accomplished that they figured out a mechanic.
It's coming along awesome, and I can't wait to see everything when it's all done!

True! I had a mini game myself where i did this 'random you have to learn where the honey blocks are'-thing and it was not a fun game aspect. Having them learn which textures are the good ones is an awesome idea !
As a game dev person, I'd maybe recommend *some* indication of what parts of the track slow you down. It doesn't have to be incredibly obvious, but even just slightly cracked pavement or a wet floor sign or something would likely be enough. It's usually good to telegraph hazards rather than having them entirely hidden and makes your players go "oh, this part slows me down" instead of "why can't I run suddenly?"

Lately Impulse has been crushing it. If you had shown me his powerplant and told me that Bdubs built it, I would've said "wow, Bdubs is seriously upping his game". Seriously impressive work, and I really love his humility. God bless you, brother.
That's what I like about this season! a lot of the Hermits are improving in areas you don't typically see them in. Grian doing Redstone (and inevitably breaking after a bit, but hey he figured out how to fix it!). Mumbo doing some more detail oriented building, which is a great continuation of his previous season work. Plus all the social interactions! it's just a really great season all around so far

Impulse and Bdubs is such a great duo. When they are working together you can see Bdubs builder brain and Impulses more tech brain both looking at things differently and coming up with different ideas and it works together so well especially for a project like this.

Concept for the train game, have some of the doors closed, and every few weeks or whatever while people are playing the game, just change which doors are open! makes the course change, and will completely change routes and paths, especially with your hidden floor traps

You should make costum paintings for all the businesses and have the hermits pay for an ad in the train. I feel that would add a new level of realism and make it seem more grounded in the world.
The businesses within the city would make for good, theme-appropriate ads as well.

For the frog light ad, put a big one on the wall at the start that everyone sees. Put the little ones throughout the course as well. Add another big one that hides a safe shortcut somewhere along the course. That way the Hermits will be looking for the ads. If you want to mess with them, add honey to the shortcut or put a second shortcut that slows them down.

You could also do an add in city somewhere. Either as a billboard or as graffiti.
Trains also often have pillars in the middle of carriages to hold onto, would contrast with the seats to make players dodge.
I also still think you should add a frog graffiti on Etho's behalf in the city wall.
Impulse! I don’t know if anyone else already commented this idea, but when you mentioned diverting the track at the end, you reminded me about maintenance tunnels. The door could be an iron door, with a bright light to draw attention, that’s either permanently open or on a timer for them to squeeze through. Then you could make false tunnels with “locked” doors, unpowered iron doors that are unlit so they can ignore them. It will add some detail to the walls as the hermits run the course.
The oxidized copper makes the seats look worn and aged. I like that
The lines also look like sewn seams!
and it looks a bit like one of the patterns on British trains or buses, but a bit fuzzy because it's worn
The leftover stone pressure plates could be useful for spawn proofing. They can be used for texturing too, bdubs’ base incorporates them really well
For the frog light ads: I might recommend some direct NYC subway inspiration! When it comes to the ads in the trains, there’s 3 disbursements: 1) Full car 2) Half car 3) All different. In other words, you’ll have an entire train car where all of the ad placements are for the same place, or the car will be half one brand ad, half another brand ad, or all the spots are different things.
TLDR: you can put frog lights EVERYWHERE and be lore friendly to the real world
Bonus: consider subway maps
I think I’d be soooo cool to add custom note blocks that sounds like the trains are rolling past, rails are rattling, or the intercoms announcing arrivals/departures! You could also and ambient city noise above ground 🫶🏽
Etho's Ad could be a mural on the wall at the bottom of the stairs so all the Hermits see it when they play.

You could add a yellow line on the walkway next to the train, like the “caution: don’t cross until the train stops” line.
an awesome section of the race course would be an actual subway terminal that you have to run through and hop over turnstyles and run through a part of a train and eventually maybe even up through a building and then back down again. Would feel very immersive to see the rest of the city as you go through the game!
Just some design ideas for blockage: Have some pillars and trashcans on the platform side, and red lights sticking out along the wall on the opposite side. Thin down the tunnel as it gets further from the entrance and gate off the boarding platform for worker access only.

This is what I was thinking. After the first black/yellow barriers (perhaps), the tunnel could be thinner.
Maybe some armor stand-stuff too for more complicated missplaced/left behind luggage too.
The street light might be overwhelming to experience in game but it's not overwhelming to see as a viewer imho.
Plus futuristic city having a glowing(lorely nonblinding) road for a street light is awesome and in theme!

if there's sections where honey is under the floor, maybe give some indication so they know something is there, to know to avoid it! like a bit more of a green mossy cobble vibe, or like even puddles of water from a leaky roof! So they're not blindsided by not being able to jump and they don't know why they lost time
I really like the idea of water and mossy cobble as an indicator for slowing down, like the ground is soggy or something 😆, good idea!
I like that, although Iskall still managed to figure out the few un-honeyed spots in Etho's frogger game, so I think he'd like the challenge of not knowing

Its a thing when designing levels for games that you wanna give at least a subtle cue that there's a hazard there so the player isn't completely blindsided, at least the first couple times they interact with the hazard so they can learn what it does and how to work around it. Once they've got the hang of it that's when you up the difficulty and remove the visual cue completely

I absolutely love when the hermits who have been playing minecraft for such a long time learn something new about minecraft. I love all the interaction this system, its leading to more funny moments, teaching and learning, and its just great. Hopefully this continues throughout the season, and maybe even in future seasons!
You should call the "Ace Race" the "Cyber Speedway"

I did Cyber Speedway just cause it’s like a form of transportation and speedway is kind of like another word highway or something similar. I like Cyber Sprint too though.
I think a good name for it would be the “cyber circuit” (particularly if it ends up being a loop)
The subway looks great so far. Really excited to see where it will go in the future. One small suggestion: „lorewise“ the random honey blocks don’t make sense in my opinion. They should be made visually distinct. Maybe with mossy stone or more dirty textures signifying there is some spillage of sewage or something similar you would find in a subway. This would explain the slower movement speed. In general there needs to be some foliage in the tunnel but im sure you already thought of that.
A possible idea is to put poles inside the train cars. It makes it so runner doesn't always have a straight shot. Awesome video!

But just a quick tip game design wise! It's always recomended that when there is a hazard or a path that are chalanges for the player, it should be visualized.
Like the muck water in portal or the poisonous swamps in Elden Ring, lava in Minecraft.
You don't need it to be obvious, but it would be helpful to use a specific color pallet or block.
This is mostly cuse the objective of the game is running and coming in first, and not a memory game, thus it can become frustrating when someone is in first, and due to a slower patch that wasn't obviou, the end up in second.
But I love the ideas so far!!!The light bulb at the top is a great hazard!! You are doing amazing and I can't wait for your new ideas :D

Agreed! Having hazards under the floor that are completely unknowable until you run over them could really get frustrating after encountering it multiple times in multiple runs. Because it's hard to memorize the location of something especially when the entire setting you're in is designed to look the same. I know I personally wouldn't be able to remember how far along the track I was/where the honey is, while in the middle of a race, without larger differences in the design of the surroundings. Since the cars are all red and the floor is all grey etc. I imagine it'll be hard to remember how far along you are at a quick glance while running
(Obviously if the entire grey floor has honey under it then that's different since the grey floor itself is the sign of it, this is mostly just for if there will be variation underneath without indication)
I think what this game needs is some inspiration from mario cart, i think there should be opportunities for hermits to get boosts/poweups or sabotage items, just imagine a splash potion of speed popping out the ground for a hermit to use, or a slowness potion on others. You should also have hidden trip wires, they could be used to drop a hermit into a new area, or hit them with a barrage of arrows. You could even have buttons or leavers that hermits could flick that'll activate a trap for others or a shortcut, that'll add to the list of things hermits need to remember for a their next game.
Murals, Murals, Murals!!!
You have the hermits making murals along the walls, but murals and taggings don't stop there. Murals can be found anywhere, especially in abandoned places like a rundown train track. Putting some colored blocks on the walls and floor of the train tracks can create a sort of ambiance that wasn't there before. Also, certain markings on the ground can imitate tellings for where they can run or where it's harder to run due to maybe oil spills (the honey, making the ground sticky from old spilled oil) or gas leaks (spider webs, making it hard to see and slower) from old pipelines!
The murals on the ground can even be overworn and dull to where they almost blend in with the floor due to the foot traffic of those using the railroads to traverse the city when the train is out of order. This can make your tellings really hard to see but accomplishing for those playing when they realize that this path is bad and others like it might also be bad. Game strategy, basically. These tellings can even move around from play to play, like the walls that can either be up or down above the train. I think it would be good to have them on opposite timers; so when the wall is down the floor path is clear and when the wall is up the floor path isn't clear.
To tie in the murals, you can even put some in the waiting room for the train. A large one, on the wall or floor that was paid for by the city. City-paid murals tend to be more beautiful because they are a show of what the city has that makes it so great, so you can advertise the game here, too. Words, images of a part of the game (that could give hints of how to play a difficult part further on??), images of the creators of the city or game, etc. You can even put an Etho ad here, but I wouldn't make it the main attraction.
Basically, Murals are your friend!
As a different track in game, if you didn't want to just have a railway you could also make a sewer part of the course

You could add armor stands with armor as "pedestrians" on the subway as obsticals. They could add to a random internal path and external obstacles at train stations along the way.
For the platform you should use inward facing stairs to create a "Mind the gap" line running along the train.
Add some dripping water and trash bags? Maybe some poles in the trains to slow them down? Darker blocks near the walls on the ground to simulate wetness?
Replay ability. Pistons under the honey blocks where some runs they are up some they aren't.
The honey would grab the blocks and take them down too.
soul sand could be moved with pistons and honey blocks could be a permanent obstacle

Maybe you can add a yellow line on the platform right next to the train. All subways have them as a safety feature to don’t step on it when the train is coming.

Impulse! You should give the hermits iron boots with soul speed so that you can make tactical booster areas like in ace race. Dont do lether ones so that if you want you can use powderd snow as an obstacle at some point 😊

Man, Jono's new track is absolute fire. For a whole I was thinking nothing would top Scar's super fast build mode song, but I think this has taken its spot for my favorite
About the soul sand and honey block under the floor, you can make a redstone to randomly pull them down or push them up everytime the game start, so even you won't know which floor have the slow effetcs.
For the flickering lights, you could try using a dripleaf triggered by an armor stand instead of the redstone ore, if you want it to flicker more often

If theres anything to reccomend as a replacement to the pressure plates, i think that you could make a gutter-type structure by dropping the froglights down a level and putting tuff/quartz stairs where the froglights were.

You could approach cub about buying advertising space for his rocket shop as well, I bet you guys could work out a deal.
Or take it a step further and have each of the hermits submit posters for their shops, that could be really fun!
In cyberpunk, the more ads the better.
For getting on top of the train and on the other side i have a few ideas.
For getting ontop you could use a pressure plate activated slime launcher with a tight timer, hitting it will get you on top where you arent slowed down by the honey and soul sand on the sides, but missing it will cost you precious time, or you could do a more parkour based thing, so doing the parkour itself might slow you down but getting on top will let you move quickly.
Also for swapping sides of the train, maybe do something like, honey on the first half or quarter on the right side then it swaps to the left, so it can be beneficial to switch sides, but obviously going side to side can slow you down too. Maybe indicate with a "No jumping" sign where the honey starts so players know when to switch sides if wanted, could use custom item frame art to show it, or just a regular sign with highlighted letters, and then another sign when it ends. And 1 idea to get inside the train quickly, have a deepslate tile stair where you have the deepslate walls to jot out a little, and the players can jump on the stair quickly and neo into the door, if done quickly its a nice time save, but costs very little time if failed and then they can either continue straight or use the ladder to get in if they miss.

A suggestion for the jumpy bits at the end of the track (30:00) if you change some of the full blocks to smooth tuff stairs it adds a little variation imo.
Also if you change some of the signs to non glowy it looks like the neon died in them.

i absolutely adored watching the segment of you and bdubs just detailing the train together?? it’s those interactions that have just made this season of hermitcraft so fun to watch for me, and it’s so heartwarming to see how you both respect each other’s talents so much, never fails to bring a smile to my face when hermits ask for help and advice as they need it, just makes it clear you’re all still human :]

The light at the entrance could be the full bright as it would be the most well maintained and the lights get less maintained as you move further in either direction from the entrance to the platform
idea impules; drop the lights down a block and add iron trap door, or add iron trap door on top, would kinda look like sidewalk/curb for the roads.
Beside the train there should be obstacles placed such as support beams against the walls, maybe floor missing next to the tracks that have broken away, maybe armor stand workers in the middle? This stops it from being just a straight run.. You could also hide secrets in side passages that contain sus stew or renamed potions so you don't know if you are getting a benefit or penalty? Maybe talk the Soup Group into making the sus stew for you?

I haven't been here since episode 1 taking a break to make my own videos and all of a sudden a few weeks later the hermits have already built huge masterpieces! truly they are all on another level.
I heard the cyberpulse song on Jono's channel, and was hoping Impulse would use it! Great timelapse to do it justice!
For the froglight advertisement, you could put a larger one on the wall opposite the stairs (just like in real life).

Speaking of custom ads. Cyperpunk aesthetic usually has an abundance of billboards and ads all over the place. You could do collabs with Hermits to make billboards and whatnot advertising shops in the Shopping District. That way both channels get a collaborative episode out of it and it generates more interest in the project overall across the community

You could use pistons to extend/retract the honey blocks/soulsand/soulsoil to randomize the gameplay.
You could also have paths that close off with pistons like the hazard system in DO2
If you want to create harder paths in the train, you can put a seat perpendicular to one of the side - like you did close to the doors - but you double it up and leave the passageway on the other side instead of in the middle. There are actual trains with such setup of having all the seats on one side and the "corridor" on the other. Then sometimes alternate which side are the double seats (sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right) to make it slightly harder to navigate. It might be better looking if you have a couple in a row with the same setup, and not changing all the time but i leave that to your good taste :)
The amount of pressure plates in Impulse's inventory at the beginning is almost enough to rival the amount of buttons he made accidentally in his hardcore series (may it rest in peace)
