They'd eventually learn to dribble properly like Jerry West and all those old ballers who kids think were plumbers. The truth is that they dribbled properly, which slowed them down.
Anyone else think it’s funny how the ref doesn’t blow the whistle until Russ starts dribbling, like the ref needed that to confirm it was a travel, WTF????
Maybe I have it wrong, but until you actually collect the ball, you can take as many steps as you want, otherwise a carry would need to be called. And Corey Brewer is pretty fast so he can take that many steps between a dribble. Those "travels" where the ball isn't gathered yet seem more like potentially missed carry calls, but since they pass or shoot just when they need to decide to do something with it nothing needs to be called
How do they get away with this? I remember when I played basketball in middle school they were calling travels RELIGIOUSLY. The ref had his damn eyes super glued to our feet and if you shifted even the slightest centimeter during a pivot he'd call a turnover immediately
I mean thats how it is supposed to be. Rules are rules and i dont know where that shit "the ball is live you can take even 10 steps with one dribble" came from
1:22 is actually pretty close to being technically not a travel. The rule says you get 2 steps after suspending your dribble (this means putting the ball in a position where it would be illegal to take another dribble) which happens right as he fishes step 3 then he takes step 4 establishes his pivot foot takes step 5 and then travels with step 6. Had he delayed cupping the ball for an extra step this one would've been legal. The idea that you get 2 steps after the ball bounces is a misunderstanding of the rule and it's why refs don't call it that way. If anyone's interested, look up "James harden was finally caught" and you can see a ref explain the exact rule
Almost -- it still would have been travelling if he delayed cupping the ball because then he would have taken 3 steps between his dribble and cupping. He had to cup it when he did, but you're right that it was only a travel by 1 step.
I remember this was a really highlighted one back when he first did it. If you rewind and play slow at 2:32 to it had one bounce in there before he took one step then jumped. Sorta TV or optical illusion effect due to 30 fps TV.
Westbrook was practicing for how the NBA will be in 5 years. Dribbling will be banned. Anyone that dribbles will be ejected, fined 25k, and suspended 1 game.
2:22 is legal, he catch the ball when the left foot touch the ground and after that he start dribble with left hand, and after that he hold it with 2 hand again that's when the count start. 12 lay up LEGAL. Try to play it on 0.25x look his foot and the hand when he catch the ball from his teammate. It's like a split of second there.
Yep, this was the closest one to not being a travel, but two hands step on ground then two more steps. The others that some say weren’t traveling, the player was carrying/pausing/gathering the ball in one hand and taking multiple steps.
Ironic that half of these aren't travels lol. People seem to not understand that you can take as many steps as you want as long as the ball is live, even if it doesn't touch the floor for 3+ steps. It is when the ball is gathered (both hands to the ball or hand underneath the ball) and what foot is on the ground that you start counting. There is a strong misconception that you start counting as soon as the ball bounces up from the last dribble when you actually don't start counting steps until the gather happens because the player could still choose to continue dribbling.
It's crazy because a lot of defenders are so used to it they don't even notice the guy they are guarding shifting 2 feet when they haven't even dribbled yet.
I love you ppl on here saying some of these aren’t travels, almost like it dismisses all the other travels in this video. Clearly the majority of these are travels, and it has clearly become a problem in the NBA. I also hope yer not a ref.
@@odiousmortem9896 obviously most of them are actual travels, and traveling is a problem in the NBA. a lot of these were barely travels, if travels at all, for example the Corey brewer one was only 3 steps the "Step count" doesn't start at the last time they dribbled, it starts when they are inelligble to dribble (so when you put 2 hands on the ball or your hand under the ball)
I think it’s good they don’t call as many travels as they’re supposed to. It makes the game entertaining for the audience but also for the players who have to actually play the game. If they game is stopping every couple plays for a travel, what fun is that to watch or play?

One or two calls in a game can change the game sometimes. This clip is about travelling and not about all other "mistakes" that refs do. Man every sporting event can be fixed.
Brush 'n Roller read your first comment again. You said refs deliberately miss traveling calls in order to keep the game flowing. I said if that was true there would be a lot more clips here. Also I was never arguing that calls can’t change games I was saying refs don’t deliberately miss calls.
