I had always hoped this was possible instead of using those really weak range extenders. Thanks to your shared knowledge and second-hand equipment that cost me less that 15 USD, I have just been able to practically *triple* my effective speed from 12 to 34 Mbps and more importantly stabilize the connection (wired and wireless) throughout. Top man!
(PS I would second the experience of others here. Upgrade the DD-WRT firmware once you have gone from factory. I had to before it would work)

You saved my day. I have tried several tutorials in the internet. I have being trying for arounf 4 hours and now it works like magic! We really need to do all the steps very precisely. The Lan part must come first, and the wifi part has to come afterwards. I tried to do both at the same time and it did not work. So your instructions are really good. Just one small tricky part is the IP of the Router and the IP of the Router 2 (repeater) that must be in the same mask. You posted a video called (UPDATED) showing this tricky part. So you are the best, you saved me some bucks because now I dont need a new repeater.

A much better approach than at the DD-WRT forum. The "definitive" script I followed only did one [apply] after doing all the [saves]... so, when you end up with an non-communicating router, there's no knowing what went wrong. After multiple 30/30/30 resets and a few different scripts, I found this video. Your procedure of setting it up in stages makes it a little more clear where the issue is. In my case, I needed to install to an existing 10.0.0.x network. Default, of course, for the DD-WRT is 192.168.1.x. I'd lose communication at your first [apply] step. I added one step, before hitting that first [apply] .
I added [Status][Wireless] and hit the [Site Survey] button at the bottom, then joined my primary router from the survey list. More than one "authoritative" script claims that the only thing this does is set give you an exact copy of the primary router's SSID. I think it does more than that. Once I added that step, everything else worked as described. Just because I'm a masochist, I did a 30/30/30 and ran your script again without the [Status][Wireless][Site Survey][Join], and again, no communication. Adding that step I think not only copies the primary SSID, but may also handle some subnet or internal routing voodo that may not be needed if you're installing to a default 192.168.1.x network.
    Thanks and Thumbs up.
P.S. I'd also suggest not using what is maybe the most castrated version of the WRT54G router - the V5 - a truly sad piece of equipment. And also the one I had to work with.

What a great video. Easy to follow, and it works... but for me, up to a point. I'm using an old Linksys Wrt320n. Whilst plugged in via ethernet everything works fine. As soon as I switch on the re-broadcasting, the 320n loses all ability to connect to the internet. I've done it 3 times, step by step, pausing on the iPad at every interval to make sure I have it the same. I think this must be a quirk in my kit or else the dd-wrt version running on it.
But the work done in this video is still great! So clear.

Thanks for laying out that bag of snakes for me. I flashed my router years ago with dd-wrt but i never could get a repeater bridge to work. And the forums were mostly useless. This video made it very easy to do. well as long as you don't skip the final step of the wireless setup like i did. Anyway it works perfectly now with lan and wireless connections. I have the router setup in my barn, Which is about 125 feet from my modem, the signal has to pass through the walls of the house too, And then out to the barn. with a wifi adapter i couldnt even watch youtube on lowest settings. Now with the repeater bridge setup, I can literally watch anything, And download at up to 430 kbps. Which is about two thirds of my internet speed on dsl. Thank you so much, Now i can have some entertainment while i work on small engines, and woodworking.

Hi Behfor, I have an issue that has come up after following your instructions. I guess this worked for a little while but then it stopped connecting to the internet.
I can access the Linksys WRT54G router with the dd-wrt firmware on it at the prescribed 192.168.1.220 (new address I assigned) even through my Spectrum wireless connection? However, there is no internet connection wired or through Wi-Fi on the Linksys WRT54G router with the dd-wrt firmware on it?
I can connect to the Linksys WRT54G router wired or wireless but it has no Internet Access?
When applying changes to the repeater router I do get this warning:
"Please check the followings before connecting again:
If you have changed your router's IP address, please note that you must release/renew your client(s) address(s) on the network.
If you are connected via WLAN, please join the network and then click Continue."
      Not sure what that means?
After going over and over it everything seems to be setup according to your instructions, so I’m not sure what is happening.
I did notice that your dd-wrt version on the video included more “Wireless Network Modes” on it than mine? Mine dd-wrt version only includes: Disabled, Mixed, B only and G only. My Spectrum router include: g, g/n, and n. It was configured for “g/n”. I changed it to just “g” and also changed the dd-wrt to just “g” so that they would match (after this issue happened). I still have the issue.
Is the router just broken? Or is it something else?
Would you have any ideas on what may be happening here and how to resolve it?
      Thanks,
      John
PS Should I just purchase something like the WIFI Ultraboost - wifi-booster.co/homepage/US/x-64/

Behor, thank you for your great tutorial: your instructions are clear and precise. Because of you I was able to reconfigure a Linksys WAP54G Wireless G Access Point to run in reverse and operate as a Repeater and a Bridge. This has enabled me to keep using a Sony Ray DVD player: it's internal WiFi modem has stopped working but now it is hard wired to the LAN output of the Linksys. I got great joy out of making something I would have thrown out, come back to life. Thanks again, from Australia.

@@Behfor Hi again, Behfor. I forgot to mention that as well as the Bridge being able to supply a LAN to the DVD, the Repeater has increased the WiFi in the room from 75% to 100% and that will now run the set top box. If you ever come Down Under let me know and I'll have you around for a BBQ.

Very detailed and thorough explanation of how to turn an old DD WRT router into a bridge repeater!
Unfortunately it didn't work for me, although I can't figure out why. I tried to use an ancient (but known working) Linksys WRT160N V3 with DD WRT installed. I did a 30/30/30 reset each time and followed your instructions exactly each time but no joy. Very odd because I'm sure that I've used this very same router as a repeater before.
Ah well, still terrific detailed instructions even though they didn't work for my router.
