- An Italian man translates a woman's confession.
ITALIAN MIRACLE is used with permission from Francesco Gabriele. Learn more at thespianfilms.co.uk.
Antonio is a young man who lives in a rural Italian village who doesn't quite have his life together. But he does know some English, so when the local priest asks his help translating during a confession from Bridget, who speaks only English, he's on hand to help.
But as the woman confesses, it's clear to both the priest and Antonio that she's dealing with a considerable moral dilemma. But as Antonio translates the priest's counsel, he begins to disagree with the priest and takes liberties with the translation -- a decision that just might change the course of their lives.
Written and directed by Francesco Gabriele -- who also plays the lead role --this charming short comedy has sharp and witty observations about religious influence in daily life in Italy, but ultimately it succeeds by making viewers smile, as a young man takes quick advantage of a situation to change his -- and another woman's -- luck for the better.
Though there are moments of ribaldry and innuendo and some fun poked at Antonio's rather slacker-ish appearance, the humor in the writing is generally warm and affectionate, reminiscent of the community portrayed in the story. (This warmth is also a hallmark of the film's visual approach, whose handsome cinematography and graceful camerawork takes full advantage of the beautiful views and picturesque historical detail of its rural setting.)
The humor is not exactly wholesome, but it is grounded in the web of interconnections of the village: everyone knows everyone in this village and is familiar with their individual foibles and faults. Through this lens, Antonio comes off as a bit of an aimless layabout, much to his mother's exasperation.
He's played by Gabriele with a sheepish and sleepy charm, but there's also an innate brightness and intelligence in him -- a cleverness that's activated when actor Jennifer Ann Elmore shows up as the English-speaking woman in need of spiritual guidance. He seems to come to life, getting sharper and faster in his thinking as he grasps just what opportunity has fallen into his lap. Watching him go after what he wants and take his chance is highly entertaining, and even inspiring, as Antonio helps another find her own path, and puts himself finally on his own.
ITALIAN MIRACLE exists in a world that is cloistered, with some insularity, and part of Antonio's dilemma is that such an environment likely doesn't have a big enough arena to exert his intelligence and talents. But even tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, there's still a place for a tiny miracle to pop up in the middle of nowhere. But even divine intervention needs a human assist: it may take a little luck to spot it, and a little chutzpah to take advantage of it when the chance presents itself. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

I know right. The contrast between Antonio and the color and vibrancy he has compared to the monotonous, traditionalist world he is surrounded by. I get the feeling he still lives with his mother not because he wants to, but because of the overbearing and suffocating culture he was raised in, not allowed to live the life he wants, until maybe now...
I enjoyed the humor of the confessional so much that I clear forgot how impressed I was with the cinematography and scenery in the early part of the video.
That was gorgeous!

Honestly, I'm more inclined to believe that he's a womanizing loser who has no ambition in his life whatsoever.
It's visible from his room, his deeds, and the stain on his shirt that he only cared about when he saw eye candy.
I loved the outcome, though. Perhaps he gets a chance to become a better person...
Woah I didn't notice it until I read this comment. Most of us are asleep even while being awake
Although he looks like an idiot to others, he's got an opportunity to return the favor without them knowing. This comes out because something gets his interest and makes him motivated.
I was laughing the whole time. I didn't know Italian moms are just like South Asian, Asian, African, and Arabian moms! I also didn't know Italian culture is also similar to Asian/African/Arabian culture!

I love Antonio’s character haha.
Antonio did the right thing. He saved a young woman from eternal hell in her horrible marriage. I wish the R.C. Church would get with the times.
Antonio acted out of self interest, he not only lied to the Priest but also the woman, he made her abort her child, he did everything immoral one could imagine and yet we have people here saying it's right and the Priest should "get with the times" All the rules in the Church have a reason why they exist and are deeply connected to Italian and European culture
The RC Church does not change its laws or teachings, so they won't "get with the times" unless God himself comes down and instructs them to do so. She would have been able to get an annulment based on what she said and perhaps leave him with the child or give them up for adoption. Morally speaking, Antonio was wrong. But there were ways she could have been saved from the marriage and having to take care of a child she doesn't want without aborting it. I understand where you're coming from though.
@@lakeishameriez2061 lol you guys are crazy. If we still did the old thing, the Church would still be assassinating women for being witches

Wooden spoon! Brings back memories from when I was a kid. Mama would use the wooden spoon until one day I got big enough then it became the broom. It provided little more leverage and little more distance. And then one day I grabbed it and didn't let go. That day we came to an understanding that using words was good enough to instill all the guilt I could ever want for the rest of my life.
Aw violence is so unwise... illogical... serves no long-term purpose... aw... sorry your mum did that to you, but she didn't know any better...

Oh! My God, this was so entertaining! You usually don't get humor, so thank you. I loved it!!
Difference between Italian moms and arab moms : none 😂
He gets smacked around because he is a lazy, good-for-nothing! Obviously, only love could bring him to wake up from his slumber!!
I don't know why people say that what Antonio did was wrong of him. He listened to her and confirmed her own wishes. He did not tell her to get rid of the child. He told her it is ok if she wanted to. She knew what steps she needed to take to end her life situation. Was it a little self serving of him because he was interested in her? Perhaps, but he protected her from being miserable in the name of her religion. Being interested in her does not automatically mean that she returns the sentiment or that he has a chance with her.
I think they're speaking from the lense of religion, and to that end I can understand where they're coming from. Religion isn't something that just modernizes, hell, if anything it's against modernization. It's about upholding sacred traditions and duties towards the unshakable faith that one believes in, and people take that very seriously. Does it mean that we should condemn all who suffer this type of marriage madness to their fate? Not necessarily (I say "not necessarily" because exceptions exist for almost everything). It just means that these thoughts and opinions come from millenia of worship and devout faith from leagues of worshippers.
Hope this helps!
This is so entertaining! I really loved the humor and that the movie displayed two very different personalities within the same faith.
He's such a darling ❤️❤️❤️ That's what Religion truly means... Happiness and peace for all👍
