The young man is so tiny and already is a menace to society. That's a lot of sass in such a cute package.
a menace to society 🤣🦄🤣 well said 🤣🦄 so cute!!!!!! Don’t cross Prince or his Mommy ☺️
he is definitely sire material
Dennis the Menace lol
😂😂😂😂
@@donnaanderson3527 No, a temperament that leans towards "feisty" is not sire material. You want calmness, especially in stallions.
BTW people who said there was a need for a vet when he was born, just don't know the difference between a generally healthy foal that needs some assistance and a foal born with true medical needs. You showed great patience and gave him just what he needed.
Yes I think this foal was just exceptionally small for his gestation, so he didn’t grow appropriately inside mom due to various factors which are difficult to untangle and understand. It doesn’t mean the foal is unhealthy, many human pregnancies result in babies which are growth restricted eventually.
Try finding a person who delivers shavings by the truck loads. Everyone in our area will deliver. If your can find a saw mill near you they probably can find someone who delivers. Good luck. That baby is cute as a button.
Dzfgxgxx you p
He’s looking so good. Definitely got to teach a horse that biting and kicking a human being is not allowed.
And the smaller the better. When I had a few babies, I decided that the smallest they were going to be was when they were just born. And, by golly, I was right!
I remember one mare I had who was showing signs of labor so I was going back and forth from the house to the barn. I finally was so tired from doing that for over 24 hours and Miranda didn't look any closer to foaling, I went up to the house to take a nap. 2 hours later, refreshed, I went back up to the barn and there was Miranda with a foal that was up and nursing. Didn't get to see anything! Later, when my vet arrived, he told me that mares can hold back on their labor for at least 24 hours if they don't want company. So my guess is as soon as I left the barn, she had her last baby that we named Blessing.
@@alycewich4472❤😮😊
His mother is in really good shape she's so fat still. Doesn't even look like she's had a baby!! I'm surprised you can still afford to feed her❤❤
Just think how much this big boy is going to eat after he's weaned and by the time he is grown!!
As someone who as been associated with Thoroughbred racing nearly all my life, I can tell you a little about Bold Ruler. He was an excellent racehorse who won 23 races from 33 starts with 4 seconds and 2 thirds. He won 17 stakes races including the 1957 Preakness. He was the 1957 Horse of the Year, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1973, the year his most famous son, Secretariat, won his now legendary Triple Crown. At stud, Bold Ruler became leading sire in North America 8 times, which is the most of any sire of the 20th Century. His sire line is still very active. In addition to Secretariat, 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew was a great-grandson of Bold Ruler. Slew sired the great A.P. Indy, who sired Pulpit, who sired Tapit, one of the world's current leading sires. In all, Bold Ruler sired 82 stakes winners and 11 champions. By naming your feisty little foal Bold Ruler, you are reaching for the stars. I hope you and little Prince make it.
That is so interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very interesting to know.
I knew one of his progeny, Boo Ruler. He was retired from the track and became a pleasure horse. Of all the horses in the barn Boo was not only my favorite, but everyone else's too. Plus he was quite handsome.
He had a much gentler personality than the rest. I always brought him an apple or carrot. But of course everyone near him got one too. Fortunately he was only surrounded by two other horses. Boo always seemed to know when I had a treat.
Amazing to think that was 50 years ago.
Thanks for the info- I'm old enough to recall all those names. Thanks for putting it all together here. He is a gorgeous little one...🤗
Kudos to you for snapping back at the people who were on your case for not taking him to the vet! If someone hasn't raised farm animals, they need to quit the criticism. It's not common to run to the vet for everything. You have experience and know when you need a doctor.
I think you are doing great ❤❤
I totally agree!!
Yes, the over reliance on doctors of any type is not normal or healthy.
@@singingstars5006And under reliance is foolish and dangerous. Bottom line for humans (before COVID): if a person gets sick and doesn’t start to feel better after three days, it’s time to call the doctor. Period.
People don't run to the vet anymore than they run to a MD. At least, I think it's ridiculous.
He thinks he is protecting his mother. 💙💙💙 He doesn't want to share her, he wants her to himself.
Looks like the little man has taken on the job of protecting his mommy.
I’ve never seen that before and it does show high intelligence at less than 2 weeks old.
Once he figures out humans are the Alpha he will probably be relieved.
Bob: That's my boy!
I saw it also that way. That he was protecting his Mama. ❤
Yep! He thinks it’s his job to look after mom!
Ya'll seem to be confusing resource guarding with chivalry or something. No different than guarding a feed bucket.
Oh he's being a little stinker! 😅. Good to see that he's growing and getting strong! Time to start learning manners!
Definitely a character. Very close to Mom. Feisty and ready to take on the world.
ps -- So glad Chablis didn't sell to anyone while in foal earlier this year. We would not have been able to share in this birth and new foal experience. Hope you can keep her later on too. She's such a good mom.
She isa beautiful horse !❤🐎
Prince sure is a feisty little guy. Beautiful, too. I'm so glad to see how healthy he is.
How beautiful to see Chablis and Prince enjoying the sunshine together!
He is growing right before our eyes!
Feisty little fella will learn his manners. They really enjoyed the bigger outdoor area. 👍
Probably just pent up energy! I bet he will be a lot calmer! ❤
I love horses, I’ve had 3 in my life. But now I can’t walk without a walker so your channel gives y horse time, thank you.
Me too. Living vicariously through Homestead Horsemanship videos. ;)
@@april5666 I as well.
Me too! My first horse was Brandywine, my second was " Sissy" & my last one was Jericho. I miss riding ALOT.
Trust this family that saved Oliver and their history of training and management know the signs to watch out for.
A lot of people don't seem to understand that, just because someone chooses to do something differently from how they'd do it, doesn't make it wrong--just makes it different. Little dude's growing great, full of himself, LOL. Typical colt. Good to teach this lesson now while he's still small enough to manage it, rather than when he's big enough to hurt you. Great name, I think!
But this isn't 'doing it different', it's causing fear and stress for a foal that won't learn anything from suddenly being forced from the ground. Yes, he needs to learn manners, but that's not the way to do it.
Totally agree with you!
@@Nemrai Maybe it would help for you to sit and watch a pasture full of mares and foals for a month or so. Observe how mares teach their offspring, including discipline. I've seen mares straight up knock them flying when they get out of line. Was the foal "in fear and stress"? Almost certainly. And also certainly, that foal remembered that lesson better than many other lessons learned, because there's something significant for that memory to be anchored to. Mares can be really rough with their babies. When raising mine, I tried to remember never to be harder on them than their momma was, and never, ever correct in anger. Anger is the recipe for disaster. This foal wasn't injured, he just got a quick lesson on how not to behave with humans.
@@Doxymeister the problem is how hes correcting the foal, "making him submit" like this isnt going to teach anything to a foal and the correction isnt going to be corilated to the kicking at people. it will possibly do more damage in the long run as once the horse isnt big enogh to force down it will fight alot harder to keep from going down and possibly become bity in the long run
I love Mom looking one, like, "Kiddo, you are on your own here---you wanna be a brat, you're gonna pay the price."
Chablis is so beautiful and Prince is quite the character. You will get him trained in no time on how to be a gentleman.
Bold Ruler! Excellent! I got the goosebumps hearing that name! I knew right away who he sired! Secretariat was the greatest horse ever! I followed him when I was younger, watched all of his races ! 🥰
And I second that comment.👍👍
I'll third - I remember
I'll 4th it 😊
So did I. I watched races then AND showed Saddlebred and Tennessee Walkers, in Ameteur shows, but once people began severely torturing horses in order to win, I was done! I could care less about the horse races today, because what is happening in that industry for the love of $$$$ to very young horses is criminal and some of the worst abuse.
Me too
Chablis is a very elegant and beautiful Mamma. I loved how interested Bob was. With the love and guidance of all of you Tiny Prince will be a well mannered and a fantastic guy.
Thanks for filming these two beautiful creatures. I could watch them all day. Our God is the greatest sculptor !
What a little stinker he is....Cute and sassy at the same time...
😅 Prince's little confused nickers when his mum 1st lay down and rolled. "Mom, PLEASE!! People can SEE you, what are you DOING!!"
🤣🤣🐴🦄 cute!!!!!
@@charlene-zw Agree 💯
Cantankerous little guy! Good thing you’re working with him at such a young age!!!
😂❤ Bold Ruler? And you told him already? - So this Prince started to act accordingly from early age..... Oh, mine.... How fitting. ♥ He is a lovely and lively little guy. Love him!♥
Bold Ruler had a "bit" of a bad attitude himself! Lol! 😂😂😂
When he walks, he stays so close to his mom. What a sweetheart.
Prince is such a cute name!
Both mama and baby are beautiful! Thanks for sharing, love y'all!
He looks so good and he's really filling in nicely..
I'm glad he's thriving..♥️
I love the way JR tells what he is doing. He is right in my opinion
JR. folks are very quick to give negative comments
Your experience of working and breeding horse you know when an animal has to see a vet.
He’s got attitude that’s for sure like most kids 😂😂
God bless guys
Chablis is stunningly gorgeous.Look at her running, Wow!
Oh boy , too big for his britches!! 😊 you'll teach him but quick Jr. Gonna be a beautiful young boy an perfect name for him !! ❤❤
Oh my gosh, have never seen this. On one hand it brings chuckles and is so cute, on the other hand if I was behind him and he connected I would be crying not chuckling.
JR knows best to address when he is a baby, Becca needs to be on guard for sure. Doesn't lessen the love for him, he is adorable, he will need to be paid attention to at all times. Nature showing up at the best time when he is little.
Chablis is clearly playing with him. What a good mama
Im not an american,i live far away but looking at the farms it joys my heart ! And it amaze me how in NY ppl will pay a fortune to live in a box when real life is the freedom u guys have! Hard work but ,God,well payed! God bless you all!
He definitely needs to learn some manners. That attitude in a full grown horse could get a person killed. Good job on showing him who the king is.
Big spirit in the lil fella! Time to start keeping an eye on the cute but snappy lil one! Never too young to learn that humans are the leader. Heredity can surprise us all! He will be fine with the proper handling!!
The Prince of Homestead Horsemanship! Got to love this little foal.
It's good to see that Prince has filled out and he is right on track with his weight. It was fun to see Chablis playing and running with Prince. If you can get them registered as Bold Ruler that would go great with his name of Prince.
And that may be a if ???
@@christinematton4125 In some horse registries a horse cannot have another horse's name. So it may be that there is another horse in the Missouri Foxtrotter registry that has that name already. But with their barn name as a prefix, there probably won't be a problem. But better for Homestead Horsemanship to be on the cautious side and wait until they know for sure before they let us fans know. Imagine the brouhaha that could ensue if they were wrong! 😱 🤣
"Mom! Mom! Look how fast I can run!" ❤🐴
His name Prince fits him wonderfully
Isn’t Prince so precious and frisky. He needs you to set boundaries, as you explained. He is well cared for and loved. A blessing 🙏🌈🎈💋
Poor darlin! Too good 😂 Well dad, training starts…NOW. 👏
The chosen names are truly delightful. Prince, the foal, is not only stunning but also aware of his charm! He’s incredibly intelligent and radiates self-assurance. Please give us lots of updates on his development and training.
Prince is an absolute character! Love his feistiness and am looking forward to his training. He is in the best hands.
He’ll always be Bob’s Golden Nugget to me LOL what a handsome young fellow he is!
Ah, that would’ve been a great name for him - his barn name could’ve been Nugget :)
The complaints about not taking a foal to a vet don't understand that a farmer is a vet who is fully trained in caring for the animals that they keep! When a disease manifests, the farmer knows what it looks like and takes action to call a vet then!
I suggest those who complain are in their ARM CHAIRS and know very little....😂
a farmer really isn't a vet but this foal didn't need a vet. There is a lot farmers can do before needing a vet.
I am saying that you know what you are doing! Yes a farmer is not licensed as a vet! I understand. You are not hearing me. If you took tge responsibility for animals, you have to study enough to keep them healthy. Most farmers get their degrees from the family they grew up in. You have an honorary degree from a life time of experience and that counts as much as a framed paper on a wall!
You guys are so good to your animals.
Oh please, this is the most ridiculous thing I have read in a long time. The vet NEEDED to be called when he was born with the condition he was in. You know who is a great breeder who takes great care of her horses ? Katie Van slyke. Her family owns the farm for generations, and guess what? They are farmers who have VETS come out when it is needed !!!
Bold Ruler. Well, this little guy is already growing into him name. Kicking out and being bold and wants to rule his little round pen domain. Can't wait to see how his personality starts to shine.
Love the double name. He sure acts like he knows he is royalty! Look at him strut! Definitely needs to get those zoomies out!
Glad to hear he gained so much weight so quickly. He's precious.
Prince has gotten big. Obviously Chablis' milk is good since he's gained almost 30 lbs in a short period of time. I loved hearing his nicker. That was adorable. He has some sass to him that will be nipped in the butt quick. He just needed to get out, stretch his legs and get some spunk out of him. I love his soon to be registered name hopefully and his barn name. Cute.
Yes, those little baby nickers get me every time. Just the cutest thing going ;)
I love his barn name,Prince. ❤
JR understands the importance of assisting the foal so no worries as you might say. Really must say this little one is absolutely going to be fun. Gorgeous and spirited. Great combo. Could watch him for hours running around with mom. Thanks for letting us share in the fun.
Mama is saying "Hope YOU can do something with him ~ I sure can't "!!
Yeah she looked like she was saying, “Well ok Prince now here comes JR to deal with you!! Now you’ll learn!” 😂
Prince is the best name. It suits him.
Prince is a perfect name. He already has that princely attitude. Lots of attitude for a little guy. He's beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
You guys did great on his name - Chablis' Prince - then there's Bob. Daddy did good! Again!! Enjoyed watching Chablis stretching her legs and feeling more normal. Prince is a spunky boy now.... I quite imagine that's a sign of intelligence, well, at least spatial and familial awareness. Thanks for the video - it was a lovely day to share it with us!!
He got the spunk of a little ruler xD
That colt is just beautiful. He’s going to be a stunner when he grows full stature!
That’s so cute his mom’s running with him. I’m a dog lover but ever since Oliver’s story and now this little stinker, this is so cute. Little stinker would have been a cute name for him
I agree “little stinker” would have been an apt name. “Bold Ruler” aka “Prince” also fits his personality though.
@@ange1mom438 And at some point in time he won't be a little stinker, he'll be a BIG STINKER! But with JR's training he'll be just fine!
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you, for starting him young for the ground manners. Some people won’t do that which causes a huge problem later on. His clacking is so cute! He’s saying “I’m a baby! Don’t hurt me!!” Love his name!!!
There’s nothing better than watching a foal running!! Gorgeous!!
Bold Ruler is a good name for him. He certainly is a "Prince."
He’s a feisty little stinker! Once he has some manners he’s gonna be a wonderful horse! You can already see he has a great gait!
Horses are easy to love. This little one is a heart warmer.
He is such a spunky lively little guy. Good that you are teaching him early some boundaries. Great to see him do so well!
Every thought about putting out a calendar! A picture these two would be a great start!
My goodness, this was such a precious video. It gives one all tĥe feels. I will be carrying it around in my heart for the day, and then rewatching many times over the months. Perfection.
Ahhhh, Bold Ruler, that name immediately made me think of Big Red. A fitting name for this little guy, given his feistiness. Loved the clacking, that was adorable. Chablis is such a great Mama. Can't wait for Sioux's baby with Oliver though, that one is gonna become everyone's heart foal along with Free Spirit Equestrian's Esmeralda.
No click bait please! You are good honest channel and don't need to. Love your channel and the way you treat and train your animals.
I think they were referring to his BIG attitude which could turn into a big problem if left unchecked. Yes their channel is great! Love this one & free spirit equestrian. Honest & straight-forward. Can't wait for this little guy to have some friends soon!
So sassy for such a wee baby! lol
It is so cute when he is clacking……Clacking is what they do to tell you I am a baby. 🍀🇺🇸
I've never heard that term before. I have known what it means when babies do it, but had never heard what it was called. Now I know. Thank you.
As humans we always think small needs protection more but small always seem to have a fire cracker side. Bold ruler and prince both fit as he thinks he can rule with kicks
🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎 WOW...! WHAT A MIX.......HE IS GORGEOUS...! 😁 PRINCE IS PERFECT 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
Mama’s attitude is I’m not worried. You’ll show him how to behave!
Sitting here, watching Chablis and Prince in the arena, running and playing in the sun, my heart is full, and happy. Thank you for posting.
Nothing is more fun than watching a foal with the zoomies!
You guys did everything correct, everyone wants to rush to the vets instead of letting nature take it course. Vets for horses are incredibly expensive and he wasn’t showing signs of distress. If you have never had horses please do not just assume that they are being mistreated and do not make comments about things that you do not understand
He is so cute and Adorable too 💕 💖 ❤️ 💗 💓 💛 ❤❤❤❤❤
You're welcome 😊
Prince is such a beautiful little being.
He's SOOO HANDSOME, and he knows it too!!! Prince is perfect for him!
I knew he was going to be trouble🤣🤣🤣🥰he was feisty from day one🤣
It is good to see him looking so normal and filled out now. He is strong and beautiful and fast. If you can't get Bold Roller, you can always register him as The Artist Formerly Known As to go along with your name of Prince. It would be funny.
He has lots of personality....he is a beauty.
People who don't know anything about raising horses OR who think their opinion is the ONLY way things should be done by, should not criticize people who know exactly what they're doing.
Beautiful little baby horse and GREAT job guys 🎉❤
Prince, the Bold Ruler....he's precious. I think JR has his hands full. It should be a fantastic journey for both of them....
what a spicy little dude he is already 😂😂 think he's going to be another big personality on the Homestead 👌👍
Chablis is a stunning horse, I love when she trots so graceful ❤
He looks beautiful in the sunshine ❤
Now you need to convince Prince he is a Working 👑 Royal in training . 🤠👍💕
To those who have negative opinions as to what others should do with THEIR animals, seriously mind your own business
Right
So you sholdn't call someone out when they treat their animals wrong, and do things to them that's negative?
@@Nemrai Of course you should, those who are regular watchers to this channel know the family treat their animals very well, Because Prince was small doesn't mean a vet has to be called unless he was showing signs of distress in which case JR would of called a vet. So to those who don't tune in regularly mind your own business
@@Jan-qy5rk couch vets! Geeeez!
@@Jan-qy5rk Just because people generally treat their animals well doesn't mean they can't make errors in judgement. Knowing when to call an expert is always a toss up.
JR is The Best with Everything horses , I am learning so much with JR’s horse psychology. Yes I am a horse owner but Homestead Horsemanship always educates . Thank you JR 💁🏻♂️🐴👍
Free spirit equestrian, with Shae and Pear Tree ranch are excellent references for horse training. There are other ways of gentling foals and horses other than forcing dominion over them. It’s what you’re comfortable with in your heart at the end of the day.
I used to teach school at elementary level.
I've always respected young ones with "attitude" as it's often a precurser to intelligence.
God knows we all need the strength and brains we've got to face the coming future. Humans and animals alike!
Congratulations JR for firm, kind and consistent control of this young guy. He will thrive and always need an outlet for his young male spirit.
We need more good Dads IMHO
❤ ❤ 🐎
You did say he was a male and he only seems to act out when someone comes into the pen. I think he is trying to protect his mom.
Like children, foals have a mind of their own!
That little guy is so adorable. He is making me laugh because he doesn’t know what’s good for him. Hahahaha. 😊
He is a gorgeous foal, I love how gentle but stern you are.
There was another horse that was small. Nobody thought much of him . Nobody would buy him as a yearling. He was quite spicy with his grooms, often going after them if they got in his stall. His name was Northern Dancer. He was the first Canadian horse to win the Kentucky Derby. He was a fabulous stud. Passing his speed onto his progeny. He was sent to France where he stood in stud until he died. (What is it with the French, and small beings who try to rule the world?) 70% of current thorough breds can trace their lineage back to Northern Dancer. Ronny Turcotte who rode Secretariat, also rode Northern Dancer early in his career.
He probably does need to get some exposure to the herd so the herd can correct him too.
That will come in time.
He is just SO Precious!!! And a Napoleonic attitude to boot!
That tiny tail blowing as he runs is too cute!
What a beautiful baby! I could watch him run all day, poetry in motion! ❤ I grew up on a ranch as a kid and had a horse, but you all are teaching me much more about horses! Thank you! I think both names suit him and his personality well. ❤
