      @@BobbieGWhiz No, the requirements get more strict every year. This is why the Model 3 suddenly stopped being applicable for the rebate in the US in 2024 despite not shipping the refreshed version yet. Next year the critical mineral requirements that must be from the US goes from 50% to 60%. The US-made battery component requirement goes from 50% to 70%. Not sure if even Tesla will qualify for the rebates anymore unless the get 4680 production ramped insanely quickly.

      This is what should happen. Typically stuff like this is free just like ChatGPT. Internet even in its infancy. And usually tech and services go free at first and when a company creates a “demand”, that’s when they’ll start charging for subscriptions. This is what FSD should be in 2024 as it very well still beta. And not to mention other companies are catching up with their driving assists.

      How comfortable would you feel keeping your eyes closed for a drive? Overall it’s pretty cool to trial, but it’s not there yet. Sometimes I have to give it a nudge to drive faster (as it slows for no good reason) or to get it to make a right turn after stopping at a red light even though there’s no traffic preventing it from proceeding. It accelerates too fast from a stop and takes too long to slow down at a stop causing it to use the mechanical brakes on top of the regenerative braking. I’ve had two or three critical disengagements.

    • @huntercook6605
      @huntercook6605 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Yeah, the difference from 11.4.9 is shocking. I assumed it was all hype and expected a modest improvement, but it really is night and day. I've had 12.3.3 for a week now and done probably 3hr or so of FSD across a good range of environments (highway/in town/country rd). It was total trash on roundabouts before and handles them great now. Also does 4-ways much better, though it's still a little slow unless you nudge it with the accelerator. It responds really well to that though; I can "encourage" it through stop signs or merge points etc. really nicely now. There's still room for improvement to be sure. It's not terribly thoughtful or strategic in traffic negotiation, for example. But the actual driving control part is really darn good all of a sudden. Everything is so much smoother.
      Earlier tonight I took it out in the dark, and had it drive a 2-lane blacktop road with a 55mph speed limit. Mostly it would go a little slower than the limit, even if I set the max up to 65. Even on straights it would top out at about 57, and in turns it would slow down considerably more than a typical human would. Around the time I was finding that out, it occurred to me that I had embarked on that testing run without really much concern or second thought. No big deal, just figured I'd have it go drive a twisty blacktop in the dark. And afterward my only real complaint is that it went slower than I'd have liked. That's...really quite something.
      It still needs supervision, all the time. And I find it works best with a little bit of interaction as well. I give it a helping hand here and there regularly; I'll use the blinker to move it into advantageous lanes, nudge the amps pedal to get it to turn onto a road, and things like that. And then I'll take over completely if there's like, a construction crew, or to merge between two busy highways. You can take over for the tricky spots and let it do all the grunt work. I wouldn't let it handle every single situation totally hands off, but it sure makes driving across town through traffic a lot more pleasant.
      To my mind it's a really, really useful tool. It's odd to me to hear people talk like if it can't handle 100% of all situations with zero intervention that it's totally useless. Regular old cruise control never handled anything but keeping the speed the same, but it sure made driving down the interstate a lot nicer, didn't it?

  • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
    @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Před 2 měsíci +2

    I got the update on my Model YLR and it is MUCH BETTER! I recently had surgery and had to drive to another state and wasn't looking forward to it. FSD made it VERY DOABLE! With that said, it's still not perfect. Three issues it still has:
    1. It doesn't avoid potholes. I don't care how big the pothole is, it'll plow right through it. Therefore, you still have to remain very vigilant. Considering it has 3 cameras in the windshield, I don't know why they don't program this in.
    2. Speed limit decreases. We all know that sometimes you're on a road with a speed limit of 40mph, but nobody drives that slow. So you put the limt at 52, which keeps you going with the flow of traffic and all is good. All of a sudden, you notice you're going very slow. You must have moved "to a new area" and the car once again adjusts to the new speed limit. What I'd prefer? If the speed limit was 40 and I set it at 52, that's 30% faster. If moving to a new area, that 30% adjustment should be kept. So if you move to a new area where the speed limit is 45, I'd expect it to reset to 58 1/2, or 59mph. Maybe it can give an audible alert so you can decide if you want to adjust that.
    3. Construction areas. Simply put, it doesn't handle them well. If cones are put in the road to turn two lanes into one, it simply gets stumped and doesn't know what to do, forcing you to take over.
    I'd say in my hour long drive, other than me having to adjust speed limits, the car did maybe 55 minutes of the driving. I'd LOVE to buy it, but not for $12K, that's just way too expensive. Drop the price down to $3,500 and I'd buy it. It's simply too expensive for the average person to justify at $12k.

Then I had it slow down to 40 mph and stay there even though the car was indicating that It read a sign that said 70 miles per hour but no matter what I would do it would not go faster than 55. Then I drove through the same area again like 2 days out later and there's like a 20 mi stretch of highway where the car refuses to go faster than 55 mph even though the speed limit there is 65 or 70 depending on where you're at. It was super frustrating I pulled over and switched off FSD.... Drove through the same area with enhanced autopilot It was a little bit better but it was still behaving pretty weird.
