    Thankyou, much useful information.
    Motorways Vs dual carriageways
    =================================
    1) Motorways MUST NOT be used by
    a) motorcycles under 50 cc
    b) cyclists
    c) horse riders.
    d) certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission)
    e) agricultural vehicles.
    f) powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters
    2) Motorways have a hard shoulder but dual carriageways do not
    3) The dual carriageway signs are always green, while they are blue on Motorway.
    4) Right hand lane is used only for overtaking on Motorways but they can be used for overtaking, turning right
    5) Roundabouts and traffic lights are very common on dual carriageways but extremely rare on motorways.
However similarities are 70mph max speed, central reservation, slip roads

Q - What must you do in order to rejoin the traffic on a carriageway if you are stopped on an emergency area?
A - Use the emergency telephone, and follow the operators instructions.
A lane might have to be closed to allow you to rejoin the traffic on the carriageway.
(Pg: 286 of the 2022 edition of the Official DVSA Theory Test for motorcycles. )
If you have stopped on the hard shoulder on a "motorway" you need to build up your speed on the hard shoulder to match the speed of traffic on the motorway before you look for a safe gap in the traffic and merge.

Provisional motorcycle/moped riders can ride on dual carriageways but not motorways.
