The Charge of the Light Brigade was a British Military disaster where although the Light Brigade demonstrated conspicuous gallantry on the field, they never had a chance because their leadership completely F*cked it up, sending them into the "Valley of Death" taking enemy cannon fire from 3 sides. It's an amazing Poem:
    "Forward, the Light Brigade!"
    Was there a man dismay’d?
    Not tho’ the soldier knew
    Some one had blunder’d:
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
    Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of Hell
    Rode the six hundred.

"Alexander The Great" is one of their absolute best! If you like guitar solos you can't go wrong with that one and also with historical context as lyrics.

    Fantastic reaction!👍
With many Iron Maiden songs, you get an accurate history lesson. The Trooper tells the account of a British soldier in the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War. Lord Cardigan led the British cavalry against Russian forces during this battle on 25 October 1854. Lord Raglan had intended to send the Light Brigade to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions. However, there was miscommunication in the chain of command and the Light Brigade was instead sent on a suicide mission charging straight at heavy Russian artillery which cost the lives of over a hundred British soldiers. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem to commemorate this disaster and he called it "The Charge of the Light Brigade".
The bronze that the recaptured guns were made from was used to make the Victoria Cross, a military medal of the very highest order that was awarded "for valour". Very few of these have ever been awarded, even to this day.
Other great Iron Maiden history lessons you could check out.... Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great, Paschendale and Empire of the Clouds.
I've been a Maiden fan since hearing their debut album in 1980 when I was 10 years old. I've seen them live every time they've played in London, their home ground, and they never disappoint. Up the Irons!!!

Nice reaction, guys! This is one of the few Maiden songs that I actually like the studio version better. Check out "Dance of Death" En Vivo next for a great live performance. Bruce Dickinson at his best (storytelling and vocals). 3 guitar solos in this one as well that will blow your mind.

The words on the screen are Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem "The Charge Of The Light Brigade". it is about the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War. The Light Cavalry Brigade suffered massive casualties during this battle. Tennyson wrote read a couple of accounts of this battle and thus wrote this classic poem. It is worth a read and captures the essence of battle, war, decimation and cost.

  • @jawosammadennhier7062

This song is on impressions from the Crimean War (19th century). The battle described here ("Battle of Balaclava") was one of the most futile massacres in war history. Unbelievably tragic.
Another deeply impressing song on war is "Paschendale" (also from Maiden). It is a _must-listen-to_ , and the most impressing anti-war Metal song in music history, in my view. Paschendale was a Belgic village which was completetely levelled in the course of bloodthirsty massacres, in the course of WW1.

Miscommunicated orders, their Commanding Officer was on a hill top and could see the Russians making off with some Turkish cannons. He sent orders to stop them but down in the valley the Light Brigade could only see the Russian cannons which were set up to fire, so without querying the orders they charged them instead. The following lines from the poem sort of sums it up “Theirs not to make reply / Theirs not to reason why / Theirs but to do and die.”
