You said the other day that you had to room to make a full album reaction to SMiLE. Since the album is split into three sections c can you do one of each, to make the videos shorter? Jamal, you don’t understand how great this album is. Brian Wilson presents SMiLE will make you change the way you see music forever
They are both not with us. Eddie was an incredible performer and to add Ronnie's iconic Be My Baby to the song was brilliant! This was a very energetic performance by Eddie! RIP to them !
The keyboard player is a legend, the great Paul Shaffer. He was the band leader for the Letterman show, here with Sid McGinnis on guitar, Will Lee on bass, Anton Fig on drums and David Sanborn on sax. Shaffer is well known for his fairly campy style and crazy clothes.
Oh yes... the years of well-dressed Robert Palmer, Huey Lewis & The News, Hall & Oates... mens' shops loved those years, selling nice suits and ties galore...
Lol. So right. All kinds of suits and jackets. Until the new millinia, fashion ran on 20 year retro cycle, so the 70's imitated the 50's, the 80's imitated the 60's and so on.
I have such fond memories of this song for so many reasons. I'm 60 years old and I remember Eddie's first LP being one of the first 10 albums I ever bought in my life(I was in high school). I also remember being one of the millions who had a crush on Ronnie since the first time they saw her. I was thrilled when this collaboration happened. I live in NYC and the big rock station wnew-fm was featuring Eddie Money is the headliner at their New Year's Eve concert which I had tickets to. And the whole time I was driving there I asked my wife, I wonder if Ronnie Spector is going to show up for that song? And you know what, she did! It was awesome
The whole point of the song is a reference to the Ronettes' hit "Be My Baby", where Ronnie Spector sings "Be by little baby, oh, oh, oh, oh". That's why Eddie Money's lyrics are "Just like Ronnie sang...", and then Ronnie pipes in with "be my little baby". And then Paul Shaffer (on the piano) does the move that Jamel is laughing at, which is taking us back to the sound of the 60s. The whole thing is brilliant.
The lettermen house band was one of the great late night bands, and bands in general. The music director, keyboardist, and the lead singer was Paul Shaffer, a wildly talented musician, and the co-writer of "It's Raining Men." Seeing these two perform brings a tear to my eye. #GoneTooSoon.
Thanks for showing this. They were both great artists. I'm glad they left us a part of themselves. Love this song!!!❤R.I.P to Both of them.❤ Piano player Paul Schaffer of David Letterman loves Ronnie from when she was in the Ronettes. Yes, she's in the video too!
The effort to get her to sing on this track led to her releasing an album of her own called "Unfinished Business" after being out of music for years. The single "Who Can Sleep" from that album featured Eddie Money.
Letterman always booked the musicians that he loved and respected. I always looked forward to his musical guests. Paul Schaeffer is a legend in the music industry. Thanks for this one!
God bless Eddie and Ronnie. Eddie was the real deal. I took my wife to see him twice one year, did a meet and greet both times, then my wife got to see him near her parents house later that year. Eddie signed her 3rd autograph, "Are you following me? Eddie Money" She prizes that one above the rest. :-)
This song reminds me of my lil cuz. He would sing this song as we was on job sites out of nowhere and I’d sing the Ronnie part lol it would drive the rest of the crew crazy. Rest In Peace Matty B
Paul Shaffer (on keyboards) is quite the goofball. He was in the band on Saturday Night Live for many years, and can be seen in a number of sketches, hamming it up -- my favorites being where Bill Murray played a stereotypical lounge singer (one memorable sketch featured him singing the theme to Star Wars). Then of course Paul was David Letterman's "second banana" and comic foil for all the years that Letterman was on the air, in all of his late-night shows -- Paul's band was at first called "The World's Most Dangerous Band" and then when Dave's show moved to CBS, they were called "The CBS Orchestra" (both obviously very tongue-in-cheek).
Ronnie Spector sang the same line in 1963: "Be My Baby" - The Ronettes. CZcams "The Ronettes - Be My Baby / Shout (4k)" for Ronnie Spector's best live version of it.
So privileged to see the "Money Man" at my favorite bar, because one of his guitar players was from here. I've been to a lot of concerts but that was a great night🤘😎🤙🤙
I saw him years ago as the opening act for Cyndi Lauper's True Colors tour. He was a fantastic opener--he gave it his all and got a standing ovation. Love him with Ronnie here. This is such a great song. Rest in power and peace to both of them.
This song did not come out until 1985. He did have several other hits prior to this one, like, "Two Tickets to Paradise" He performed at SUNY Geneseo around 1982. That's when I saw him live!!!
Ronnie Spector -- god bless her. Thanks, Eddie Money for having the right instinct to invite Ronnie into your great rock song. You were both so incredible. (The keyboard player is Paul Schaffer who is a bit dorky -- but I assure you the man is a musical genius & has been used on countless high-end sessions because of his versatility on instruments & as a bandleader. He could play anything, anytime, with anyone, has a perfect ear, can fake it proficiently & improvise on the spot. He often leads the R&R Hall of Fame band because he can play countless songs by major artists. My music teacher knew him & he assured me a Paul Schaffer is few & far between in the music business. The man is a genius).
Lol... keyboard player is Paul Shaffer. He was the band leader for The David Letterman Show and was also band member for the Saturday Night Live in the early years 75 - 80. I saw Eddie Money in concert only once but he was very energetic. He kept throwing his mic stand down and the roadie would run onstage and pick it up. It got kinda funny after awhile.
Brother Jamal: I had to laugh too. But what a great song ! RIP to two greats. Eddie was a performer. Ronnie Specter was a beautiful woman with a great voice bro. Thanks for that reaction my brother from another mother. Let's keep on keeping the greatest music alive !
Love this song! I live in Reno NV and the official video was filmed at the arena on the university’s campus. The song is played at the end on every basketball game as we exit the arena.
Hi Jamel aka Jamal. Thank you for your positivity and overall good human being vibes. I wish we could all be like you so that we could all look past skin color and realize that we are one race the human race. The world would be a much better place if we could get on your level. Keep doing what you do and thank you for being you!
The late Ronnie Spector performed Be My Baby in The Ed Sullivan Show. The late Glen Campbell played guitar 🎸 20+ years later, Ronnie Spector returned to the same theater. It is a return of Ronnie Spector. The theater was named after Ed Sullivan. He passed away in the 1970s. The song inspired Brian Wilson and the late Roger Christian. They wrote Don't Worry Baby. In 1998, Garbage 🗑 wrote, produced and performed Push It. A sample of Don't Worry Baby is in the verses. Lead singer Shirley Manson tweeted her eulogy. RIP Eddie Money, Glen Campbell, Ronnie Spector.
This is soooo 80s love it. Her coming out of the shadows and wiggling the butt is straight out of the video - she was in the shadows wiggling all the way up to the very end of the video until you see her.
Wow!!!! I wish I would've seen this when it aired...two amazing artists I pray 🙏 they are R.I.P!!! If you watched his original video she definitely was in the video!!!
Thanks, Jamel -- I was always a bit "luke-warm" on Eddie Money - but loved Ronnie - I first heard this song on my car radio, and was thrilled to realize that Ronnie actually sang on it -- of course, her voice is so recognizable... took me back -- lol
I saw Eddie Money in concert about 8 years ago. We did a meet and greet. He is the sweetest guy ever! So down to earth and complimented me on "how beautiful I was, and loved the yellow blouse that I had on." He told my fiance "you better hold onto that one. She is a good woman. I can tell that." He then kissed my hand and told me good night. It was something really special for me! Great concert as well!
I feel very lucky to have seen a number of artists live in concert. Back in the good ol' 80s, general admission concerts were a thing. I was one of those people who would go to the venue a couple hours before the doors were supossed to open. It was 1984 in Jacksonville for 38 Special, and Eddie Money opened. As soon as the doors opened, many of us would run to get as close to the stage as possible. I ended up Center stage. When Eddie Money came out, he was stiff and looked shy. A couple songs in and he was giving us all he had. A true performer!! RIP to Eddie and to Ronnie.... 🙏🙏
I just feel extra sad that they are both gone now. When Ronnie stepped out of the shadow, I got goose bumps even though I knew she was about to appear. I don't know any of the musicians, personally, that I grew up listening to, but I'm thankful to them for the happiness they gave to me. By the way, we're all screaming at you in this video that YES, she was the girl in the video!!
I love Ronnie Spektor. I love Eddie Money. I love Jamel. I loved David letterman and Paul Shaffer leading the worlds most dangerous band. This was a great treat. I think for this live performance, they had Ronnie come up from backstage, and perhaps even turning and shaking it, to reflect on the video. How in it she slowly emerges from shadows until the climax of the song. Either way, sure glad she shook! That was a whole Lotta fun. Thank you so much!
I think you might like The Ronettes performance of "Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You" from their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Paul Shaffer (The piano man you imitated) does an amazing job of recreating the "Wall of Sound" technique for the live performance.
I used to live a couple blocks from a Native American casino in my area, and they have concerts there all the time. When Eddie Money played there, the show was so loud that my next door neighbor and I sat out in his front yard in lawn chairs and heard the whole thing for free. 😁
Not only was Ronnie a doll, but I always thought Eddie was damn cute too! Maybe not in a traditional way, but he had those soulful boyish eyes! Just adorable!
This was sos much fun. To see her comeback like this all those years later. And on a cool dude like Eddie Moneys song? Iconic. Ronnie is lucky she escaped Phil Spector’s clutches. George Benson “Lady Love Me”
The song Trinidad by Eddie money is kind of interesting It's kind of a little bit reggae..
When he sang "just like Ronnie sang" he's talking about "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes. That would be cool to react to if you haven't yet.
Ronnie's breakaway from Phil Spektor was on par with Tina's breakaway from Ike. This was her come back after a lot of recovery.
And it was an absolute delight to see her back rocking.
Spector not Spektor
They are both not with us. Eddie was an incredible performer and to add Ronnie's iconic Be My Baby to the song was brilliant! This was a very energetic performance by Eddie! RIP to them !
@@youllis Pretty sad.Sorry.
@@Caperhere we know you are but what am I?
You can tell she was a spitfire and loved performing. ❤
It was a great song.
RIP to both of them.

David Sanborn is one of the greatest saxophone players ever.
It was on a Letterman episode
Paul Shaffer is from my hometown in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
I always liked watching Sid play guitar on the Letterman show
Sid, Will & Anton are world class musicians.
Love this song, Rip Eddie and Ronnie Spector ♥️🙌🙏💯
Ronnie never lost it! The voice, the moves, the passion stayed with her. ❤️
Oh yes... the years of well-dressed Robert Palmer, Huey Lewis & The News, Hall & Oates... mens' shops loved those years, selling nice suits and ties galore...

Hall and Oates are great. I was born in 93, but feel like I should've been a part of the 80s
I love the video of this song. Where Ronnie comes walking/ dancing up..
Eddie Money has some great songs we lost some great musicians way to early 😢
The Ronettes sang “Be My Baby” which is what Eddie Money is referring to. So you need to react to Ronnie Spector singing “Be My Baby.”
RIP Eddie and Ronnie. Great music never dies.👍🏻🙏🎵🔥

They clearly were having fun. Paul Schaefer on the keys and the whole band having fun.
I thought that looked like Paul Schaefer from Letterman!
Schaefer is with the E Street Band.
my man has all that music on his walls and didn't know the legend Paul? Weird.
Letterman always booked the musicians that he loved and respected. I always looked forward to his musical guests. Paul Schaeffer is a legend in the music industry. Thanks for this one!

This video was fun and this was a hit song on the radio. I loved the Ronettes, everything Ronnie sang were hits. Eddie Money was great, also.👍👏👏
Saw him do this live in July 1979. I still have his haircut. Blue Oyster Cult, Molly Hatchet and Outlaws were all there. Toledo Speedway.
This song did not come out until 1985. He did have several other hits prior to this one, like, "Two Tickets to Paradise" He performed at SUNY Geneseo around 1982. That's when I saw him live!!!
Always love Jamel's reactions to these incredible artists! 😍👏👏
My mom would jam to this Eddie and Ronnie song back in the day. RIP Sister Ronnie - beauty and talent. ♥️

She also collaborated with the E Street Band. Also love Ronnie's later collaborations with Joey Ramone and her cover of Johnny Thunders.
Love these two. Unfortunately we lost both of them. I have an Eddie Money CD and play it in my car all the time.
Anytime I'm feeling down I can guarantee a smile after watching your reactions. Keep up the great work
Love this song ♥️🌹

Love this song! I live in Reno NV and the official video was filmed at the arena on the university’s campus. The song is played at the end on every basketball game as we exit the arena.
Just like Ronny says
Two amazing voices gone now. Great song by Eddie and Ronnie. Thanks for posting this one.
The unlikely underdog comeback of both Eddie and Ronnie with this song was one of the coolest things ever. Good things happening for good people.
Hi Jamel aka Jamal. Thank you for your positivity and overall good human being vibes. I think Ronnie Specter"s shimmy/dance was what The Black Crowes may have had in mind when they named their debut album, "Shake Your Money Maker."

Jamel has so much fun doing these.
A buddy of mine was very good friends with Eddie, he will never be forgotten.
thanks for giving us the chance to appreciate what a magnificent voice and talent ronnie spector had

Man ! You really have the best vibe ever Jamel ! Rock on 🤘🏼
Thanks for your reaction--RIP Eddie and Ronnie!
I remember that night…I saw it live, Fall, 1986. I taped the audio with my tape recorder. Late Night with David Letterman. David Sanborn on sax.
I think you might like The Ronettes performance of "Be My Baby" and "Baby I Love You" from their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Paul Shaffer (The piano man you imitated) does an amazing job of recreating the "Wall of Sound" technique for the live performance.
So fun...great to see them live! She was in the video...she was back in the shadows.I remember cause it was so iconic.
That was really cool.....thanks!!! RIP Ronnie and Eddy.....
Ronnie Spector Was Truly Stellar Performer She Had a Sparkling Personality She Truly Had a Gift for Engaging Her Audience
Eddie hit the ball out the ball outside the stadium ❤
I used to live a couple blocks from a Native American casino in my area, and they have concerts there all the time. When Eddie Money played there, the show was so loud that my next door neighbor and I sat out in his front yard in lawn chairs and heard the whole thing for free. 😁
The caliber of musicians in this vid is epic!!!

She sings be my lil baby

Just seeing these 2 again is worth it 💔💕⚘
You're right Jamel. EM music never really got the respect that it deserved back in the day. I can remember being an Eddie Money fan as a high school - college kid but never saying that I like EM music to any of my friends. Was a strange time Jamel, he came up with mad blended skills just at the wrong time. Although Edward Joseph Mahoney (his real name) his work will never die
Beautiful Babies. RIP!
Thank you young man, the 70s was a great time to be a teen agers. Your videos bring back a lot of good memories.
Saw Eddie in 1989 I think it was, great concert at a great venue. He was awesome.
Great video
Eddie Money was Awesome Love His Music.😁
You can tell Ronnie was happy to be there
And Eddie happy she was involved
I loved how much you just enjoyed yourself with this! ❤️
Everyone was having so much fun. Such a lovely moment in time.
Thank you so much for this, what a treasure. You are such a wonderful young man! Keep up the great work 💟🤗
Oh man, do I ever have some memories around this song!
You should check out Ronnie doing "can't put your arm around a memory."
A Johnny Thunders song she does an amazing job on. It'll bring a tear to the toughest bastards eyes.
Fun Fact about the keyboard player, Paul Shaffer. He cowrote "It's Raining Men".
