- Here's a tour of my dorm room at Rice University! Move in at Rice University is done and the semester has started! For those of you who don’t know, I go to Rice University and am a part of the Sid Richardson residential college (one of the eleven). This is my dorm room at Rice University.

Gerald thanks for this my daughter may be going there in the fall . Did you purchase your microwave and fridge or did it come with the room and also did you purchase your mattress and bed frame? Thanks in advance !
Hey! The microwave and fridge were purchased, however, the mattress and bed frame came with the room. The room comes with a mattress/frame, a desk, drawer, and a shelf for each person.

Are there any restrictions when it comes to decorating the dorm? Such as placing posters, calendars, or even tack boards on the walls?
As long as you don't leave permanent damage to the room then you should be fine. If you want to hang things then I suggest you use command strips.

Do any of the residential colleges have communal bathrooms other than Hanszen?
I know Jones and Brown also have communal bathrooms.
Good job! I wonder if you can choose your roommate. What if I want to leave with my friend?
What'll happen is that you'll fill out a form where you'll talk about your interests and preferences. Then the orientation advisors will pair you with a roommate that they think will work. I believe there is a section where you can ask to be put with a specific person and usually they'll do just that!

Is it hard to get in rice
Depends on what you consider hard. Rice's most recent class (2023) had an acceptance rate of 8.7% which is on par with top tier ivy leagues. I'd say it's about the same difficulty (could be a little easier) as getting into an ivy league.
Seems like there is a bug problem. Is that correct?
At the dorm room for this video (which is now called Old Sid Richardson), I personally never had any bug problems. However, I did have friends who had the occasional bug in their rooms.
Should I get a TV for my freshman dorm?
Really depends on what you want to do with it. Generally the answer is you don't need to but if you want to watch movies on it or play games then it's not bad. Most residential colleges (if not all) will have communal tv's I believe.
