Iirc the reason the Tau team up with the Imperium was because both of them realize everytime the Tyranids evolved to counter whatever weapons one faction had, they ended up losing whatever weapons and armor they made to fight an earlier enemy.
Thus both the Tau and Imperial Guard took turns fighting the Tyranids and forcing them to constantly evolve and lose weapons and armor repeatedly to the point the Tyranids wasted a lot of bio materials to evolve and we're unable to produce more bugs which both the Tau and Imperial Guard launched a joint attack and finally eliminated the weakened Tyranids.

Chaos + Daemons want to conquer the universe? If the ruinous powers worked together and brought in like minded factions like the dark eldar they'd crush every other faction immediately and it wouldn't even be much of a fight.
If the eldar, tau, imperials and good Necrons worked together they'd crush the forces of chaos and potentially remove them as a threat once and for all...
Hell if single factions like all orks worked together towards a common goal they'd be a significantly stronger faction, perhaps the strongest.

@@user-vy9mk7um1beven the imperium has this technology in Form of the phase blade of the callidus assassin. But if I remember it correctly it is also important at what high rate of energy or what Form of energy it goes against. A normal Iron halo shield is not even an inconvenience, but really strong psychic shields or power fields and voidshileds can stop it. Also Necrons use Alot of this technology in other forms too like for example in the Warscythe or the claws of a necron Wraith.
A phase weapon against a other phase weapon is also interesting, but sadly for that we don't have Alot of sources but it seems they stop each other. It is also worth noting that the abilities of Phase weapons change. For example the most common definition means it cuts everything, literally everything, but there are also information that it only cuts non-living things so for that it would be possible it only cuts the chitin of a tyranid but not the fleshy parts (which would be in my understanding just be boring and if I remember it correctly the cut everything Definition is the Canon)

Finally! A video I know the lore on already, here's some expansion on the video for people:
Hive fleet Gorgon attacked the Tau Empire in 899-903.M41, assaulting Sha'draig first, throwing their forces against automated defenses to initially adapt to Tau weaponry, then this video talks about mostly the battle for Sha'draig.
Ka'mais is the next Tau Sept invaded by Hive Fleet Gorgon, which triggered the awakening of a Necron Tomb world on the Moon of the planet. The necrons Tyranids there. The Necrons were met with celebration, the Necrons simply harvested the planet.
After this, all planets between Kai'mais and Ke'lshan were evacuated with minimal loss, but leaving the planets to Hive Fleet Gorgon, with only Ho'sarns evacuation fleet being intercepted by the Hive Fleet, this results in the creation of the Zone of Silence.
Back to Ka'mais, a T'au fleet attacked Hive Fleet Gorgon, performing well, until Bio-ships immune to their tau weaponry retaliated, at which point the T'au retreated, but the T'au had managed to destroy many of the Bio-ships utilised for Tyranids FTL travel, giving Ke'lshan time to prepare.
At Ke'lshan, an Imperial Guard fleet arrived, intended to fight during the Damocles Gulf Crusade/Second Sphere of Expansion, which had ended over 150 years ago, as Hive Fleet Gorgon descended upon Ke'lshan, the T'au and Imperial Guard came to a truce, and fought against Hive Fleet Gorgon, which was successful.
Though the truce broke down once the main force of Tyranids were defeated, allowing some BIo-ships, which contained Hive Fleet Gorgons adaptations to escape and rebuild.
This is what I know for certain about Hive Fleet Gorgons invasion the the Tau Empire. I don't know about them working with Chaos Marines, and I'm pretty sure the T'au working with Dark Eldhar was during skirmishes with a different Hive Fleet, There was also a T'au world that was overtaken by a Genestealer cult, feel free to correct me in the comments.

Why don't the nids just evolve a white metal carapace and radiators to counter lasrifles?
Like, lasrifles just deposit heat through light to vaporize what it hits. So if you coat your troops in a white or mirror paint you could minimize absorbtion. Then add something that transports heat (liquid metals are amazing at that, but any solid metal will do too) and a radiator and you can dissipate the heat you do absorb into the local atmosphere.
Hell, they could also use combustive shielding (just a coating that burns away to tranaport the heat off) to survive more hits.

They'd need the biological material in order to make this, and then they'd need to make it practical to apply to as many forces as they use, so pretty much, its a cost/benefit analysis, and it doesn't guarantee protection from other sources of attack, immunity to Lasguns don't mean immunity to artillery, it's a push and pull game of adaptation.
