Tyrion and Robert were not shown as rapists in the show. I think people should’ve been more critical of Tyrion and Khal Drogo. But also the book is pretty critical of book Tyrion. His act is not portrayed as likable. I think it’s valid to say people should have been more critical of Jamie. But this isn’t a defense of Aegon. It’s a condemnation of past characters.

The wooden throne that Helaena talks about to Aegon, would hypothetically mean a chair made specifically for him since he is no longer fit to sit on the Iron Throne. Alicent agrees with her son's death, because Rheynera told her to choose between her own son, who would be just one person to die, or burning King's Landing along with the people.

A lot of people correctly point out that Alicent is a bad mother. And I think she even realizes that. But being a good mother isn’t sticking by their side as they fight a war that will kill thousands or standing by while your child acts as a rapist and enables child abuse through fighting pits. Alicent failed to raise her sons but she isn’t wrong that they may be beyond saving.

  • @datguy3581
    @datguy3581 Před měsícem +1

There are major differences between the book and show adaptations of all characters. And the show characters have a lot more depth than the book characters. The book is written to be an incredibly biased historical textbook. But it doesn’t have interpersonal drama or character complexity or private conversations. Alicent is written to be a stereotypical one dimensional evil step mother. Rhaenyra is written to be incompetent and powerless while the men around her make all the decisions. Aemond is portrayed as mercilessly murdering Lucerys on purpose. And the books don’t give Aegon much depth either.

Aegon is not a rapist. In the books he is a creepy guy, but no full on rapist. Yet the show portrays him like that. Yet Rhaenyra's evil deed of mercilessly killing her husband is changed.
And when Rhaenyra abused het power to sleep with her kingsguard. Nobody talks about that. If the genders were swapped everybody would condemn Cole then.
And also saying somebody should be mutilated and in constant pain for the rest of their life made for a mistake in his youth is just so stupid. That is why we don't do that anymore. We used to geld rapists, we don't anymore because it is barbaric.
And don't forget Daemon did the same (with underage girls). It is said they spared the virgins for him. Yet nobody looks at that do they.

Many arguably forget that GoT, in general terms, isn’t really about action or war (even though they do those things extremely well). It’s about the characters, their relationships, and of course the politics and complexities the world. Without those fleshed out aspects, the occasional battles and action sequences would have no weight or impact. Historically speaking, the finales of GoT were seldom action packed.
In the end, HotD and GoT remain among the best television series ever, comparable really only to themselves.

Sad thing, is Art is subjective.
It's up to viewers, what they see.
    Not what people know.
When reading any book, or seeing any film, how you come away with a sense of experience, and expectation.
It subverts everything someone else may feel.
Yet it's not about how a group may gather as the storm's lash.
    The writing is still turning.
The story unfolds, it's just people have no patience in which to except change, or different out comes then what is already on the page.
But the Character's lives are what matters, and direction and interpretation of story is up to the viewer to proceed with indifference, or judge, complain and misinterpret presentation.
    But Art is subjective.
It subverts original content, to make for a more lush tapestry of time...
As we watch and cast disparaging dangerous stains upon others for their creative visions, and lay out a more flushed out representation of their ebb and flow. The editing is a weave in which the story can tell the viewer, just exactly what is needed, to leave you wondering, in anticipation, for the next spill of tale or visual stimulation.
It is in Art that questions arise, but through equal devotion, and faith in the information and intent, given thru the love of Character's and story, we learn so much more then original content couldn't.
The series leaves you desperately seeking the gods wood for answers, but maybe we are not meant to.
Would it be so bad, to just free fall to the end, with the Character's shaped and formed, in the way Cinema gives us, then we are able to be as suspect, or jeer effective subjugation, mistold by those who are bitter, when story is not individual enjoyment. But the excitement of a fresh presentation, and perspective?
Artists don't fill they're canvases to please others, they just paint...
Same as the amazing tapestry that is woven fought the think less battles to
    be, have been.
We are but the small folk, feeling the flames.
The toil, the wretched spectacular that brought the Dragons down...
Not built their kingdom of Valeria, back up.
The Royal farce that holds the beast, and unfailing tempests back.
But history is written over and over, and who can say what account there was to truly believe were accountable for such events, when this history, never truly was anything but a tale imagined and taken to pen, then screen.
People really shouldn't be surprised that nothing works out the way they have already thought it happened, when they're reading the unreliable accounts of a Maister, and a fool.
The film leads us away from such faltered tellings, and instead we join the story, as it is woven by the loving Artist's hand instead.
We could trust it even more.
In Subjective interpretation, we are allowed to feel emotions, and the story is there for for the individual to appreciate, or not...
This is what the story even recounters for us.
Not to be mercilessly torn apart, in the retelling, but to accept the weight with which the filming of such a masterwork is laid out before you...
Thank you Larissa, I appreciate your interpretation and Reactions.
It's hard todaze to please anyone, but bitter taste, only leaves you hoping to experience the same old expectations.
But you miss the entire scope of what you dreamt might be possible, and for that Artist's meaning behind more then just blood stained carpets wilt allow, the Details to truly combine, and create for you a more thought out representation of the original concepts R.R Martin had written, and to give us a new way of seeing it, and feeling it fully, realized.
But that is and should be as it is.
Not muddied by the Mummers and short sighted.
    Who rather dissect then reflect.
    Art.
    Or the Artists rendition.
    ❤️‍🩹🗡️👁️
    🩸
A story about Dragons, and Magical beings from Valeria, Artful creations.
Think before you rip it all down.
    Blessings sent Larissa
Some day, they may realize how ridiculous they are.
Dreams laid by the thoughts of Men, are brought to cinematic illusion.
    Art.❤️‍🩹 Love it or don't.

It was so powerful when Alicent sold out her whole family plus the soldiers that fight for her family apart from Haelena. To answer your question no Alicent in the books is 20 years older than Rhaenyra and she doesn't do anything after the crowning of Aegon. She is almost like Cersei in the sense that she actually loves her children and doesn't think of them as burdens. Book Rhaenyra would have killed her in an instant if they ever met like in this episode, book Rhaenyra is also like Cersei. The reason this episode is bad apart from slow pacing is the fact that they brought up the Horror that is Season 8. There was no point in that vision, no point to show Daenerys cuz she does absolutely nothing in the Long Night, Arya is the one that ends the White Walker threat. Pretty bad season overall, they literally have the book, they can just copy-paste to the show but the writers again think they can write better than the writer aka GRRM.

Alicent is nine years older than Rhaenyra.
Also, they make *everything* about and around the a prophecy, characters have no agency. Dreams and prophecies in ASoIaF are vague and unreliable. As is Helaena, but this episode she literally spoils what is going to happen.

Agency matters because Viserys and Rhaenyra both believe in the prophecy and allow it to predetermine every single step of them. I am still convinced that the show will also be another cautionary tale about prophecies. Even though the story with Daemon in Harrenhall, points at a different direction. Daemon is an interesting case as I think he would have bent the knee even without the last revelation.

Don't be another person who thinks that everything should be followed exactly as it is written in the books... that would never be possible in life. To be ironic, I say: if a series were to be followed literally according to the books, you would have to imagine, 879 seasons with 8 episodes each season would give 7032 episodes. Don't go down that path, which is totally ridiculous and impossible to do... actors would die, some of us ourselves, and the series wouldn't even be halfway through.
