That terminology is used quite often for Whites in the media to explain bad or illogical behavior for grown adults. Compare the same terminology used for people of color when they are 16, 17 or 18 years of age; you'll often hear the term "Man". You'll notice this from now on.

It wasn't a lie. He was robbed by any standard definition. Robbery is the taking of property by force or fear. If Lochte damaged property (and this seems to be the case) then the legal way for security to resolve this is _civil courts_, not brandishing firearms at people's faces. Both parties broke the law, but what security did was much much worse. Someone could have died.

Only in this case. It's our embarrassing fascination with sports figures. We excuse them from behavior we would not put up with from "regular" people. Many are pampered as children, seen as heroes as teens, then handed scholarships for college. Many do not grow up. Their lives are self focused and their behavior often reflects that. If it were Usain Bolt, we'd be listening to the same bs.

If this would have been the U.S.A Basketball team, they would have been call thugs and President Obama would have had to come down there to get things settled. Lochte is too old to be acting like a teenager. He needs to be held accountable AND he should apologize to the people of Rio, the IOC, and his teammates for leaving them high and dry! HE LIED! His story is a bigger fiction than Lord of the Rings. At least Lord of the Rings was based on WW2 and the story has a noble theme, Lochte lies are based on his selfishness and stereotype. In my opinion, there is nothing to be defended -- because there is nothing "good" in this lie. Al, thank you.

I love the irony of how Ryan made it sound like he was the cool and brave one (of the 4) who wouldn't get down on the ground until the gun was at his head. Then was like: "Whatever. dude."
Yet he was the one who got the hell outta Rio when the heat came down and left his college-age teammates who he should've been mentoring. Oh the shame.
