      As a big fan of The A-Team, I was always overjoyed when there was a Barclay episode. Dwight Schultz is a great addition to TNG.

  • @StarkRG
    @StarkRG Před 2 lety +23

    This is one of my favourite episodes. Yes, of course the explanations don't make sense, how something works really isn't as important as what effect it has on the characters and plot. Even The Martian, one of the most scientifically accurate sci-fi stories I've ever read, has the conceit that there's enough energy in Martian wind to break a communication dish off the Hab and knock Mark Watney far enough off the path that nobody could find him. Of course, how much of this you'll accept is a personal choice. I have my limit, too, where too much technobabble will break my suspension of disbelief. I prefer when they minimize the requirements for it, but I have a pretty high tolerance.
    This episode was not "based around a science idea" it was based around a character dealing with having symptoms of something nobody can identify. The A-plot was Barclay's condition, the B-plot was the silly alien plasma creatures. The A-plot was excellent, the B-plot was silly and fun. I give it an A+.

      Thanks for this comment. The most fun i get of this content is about guys trying to analyse a science fiction show without being able to even realize what "fiction" means. Kinda silly, but sometimes mildly amusing.

    The transporter issues are explained if you understand the tech. Beaming to is easier than beaming back…and other episodes have had to do with something interfering with transport. To this end, two transporters can be linked to improve a successful transport…later TNG used transporter boosters (a trio of lit pylons) to help facilitate a successful transporter lock. Now, the idea of going back through the transporter to undo something isn’t how it works. The transporter trace doesn’t work as an undo button and modifications would be needed to reintegrate on a pattern stored in memory from a prior transport.

    I just want to say that I love your videos and I laugh out loud through every single one of them. I'm also a huge Star Trek fan and love Star Trek The Next Generation. I was thinking about how all these things you point out that are funny I've never even thought about. I think it's because when you watch a show when it first comes out and it's cutting edge at the time, it's different than looking back at it years later when technology has changed so much. There's also a nostalgic aspect when watching shows that you enjoyed growing up. I love watching Scarecrow and Mrs. King, but for anyone watching it now, I'm sure they would think I'm crazy for liking it. It's just that when I watch it I feel like I'm being transported back to the 1980's to a much simpler time. The same goes for this show. And even though you bring up a lot of funny and obvious negative things about the script and the acting, it still brings back such warm feelings and memories to watch ST-TNG! Surprisingly your negative opinions about some aspects of this show don't seem to sway my feelings about how good it is. You guys are so hilarious and I'm still going to continue to enjoy your videos, which I'm sure you're very relieved about! 😅😅😅

    I can never understand the transporter. So much of it annoys me, like how is it possible for them to move even when the sparkly effect is still in progress. Notice when they beam down to a location, they always move around even when the still have atoms moving around near their stomach. How is it possible to remain able to see in the transporter beam as shown here. Surely your eyes are also taken apart atom by atom to be transported.

    OK, I'm going to come right out and say it - 20th century TV shows were created as, "watch once . . . then move on". For most of the 20th century there was no widespread, convenient way to endlessly re-watch shows on-demand. If Reverse Angle, and the online universe itself, had been a fixture of 1922, instead of 2022, the entire realm of TV entertainment could have reached a higher standard. At least more attention to detail could have become a reasonable expectation. Just sayin'. Thank you Reverse Angle - you guys Rock!

    Well guys, I agree this is one of the worst episodes in the show. It was bland and went nowhere, and everybody's character seemed to have taken a step backward. But I gotta tell you, this was not your finest episode. You came off as a couple of snotty Gen Z brats who hate everything and only want macaroni and cheese for dinner. (And yes, I know you're older than that). The episode didn't make sense, I mean it really didn't, but we are watching late 80s science fiction and Wikipedia was not a thing. In every episode, it's, over and over again, "It's stupid cus it doesn't make sense." You've gotten into a rut. Look, I get that this episode is a real trash fire, but you should have handled it with a lot more humor and a lot less snark.
