I've never tried learning sweep picking in my 35+ years of playing the guitar. This makes me at least want to try, very inspirational and very clear instructions. Preliminary thanks!
I'm getting close 30 years of playing myself and I've only started practicing it a couple of times, but gave up. Maybe someday I'll pick it up (pun intended) again :)
When i was in university i trained sweeping for 1 year straight. I made nearly the same motion for this time every day. And suddenly it happend and now its effortless as other techniques. Just takes time. Dont stop practicing!
I didn't expect you upload a sweep picking tutorial! You and Bernth are extremely helpful with guitar technique. I can add this lesson into my practice sessions now. Thank you very much!
Really appreciate the breakdown of your pick holding and placement of your picking hand on the bridge. As an intermediate beginner guitarist, I've struggled to understand these two techniques because everyone seems to do it differently, but rarely do they explain why.
The one clip to destroy careers of all real life and online guitar teachers, as it is in a class of its own! I wish this existed 25 years ago when I was trying to learn to sweep pick and ended up brooming instead. This video would save me at least 6.66 years of struggle and suckage! The attention to the most minute details, each innuendo of sweep picking is covered and explained. Best video on this technique I have seen to date and I've seen at least 669 of them...Killer job sire!
Thank you Bradley for these great explanations which will surely be very beneficial for me. And thank you for your passion for teaching, in your videos on this channel. You are one of the best CZcamsrs! 🎸🎸
12:27 Actually I’ll disagree with you. Mindless practice is really good ONLY IF you know EXACTLY what bad habits to look out for and to avoid. If you don’t, you’ll speed plateau, making no progress, and that’s where hardcore analysis comes to save the day. Only if you know what to look out for, you know what you’re doing (which most beginners don’t) and if the only thing that’s stopping you from mastery is repetition, only then is mindless practice a really good idea. Otherwise, I like how spot-on and helpful this video is for complete noobs.
Nice video. This has to be one of the best explanations Ive seen, makes me want to finally start trying to learn it. Most other sweep tutorials bombard you with waaay too much information and seem to skip past the basics, either that or theyre so dull that its hard to pay attention.
Oh bloody hell mate! That was so mind opening. Thank you so much for all these 'dull teacher's' explanations. Thanks to you I finally got the theory and there's nothing more left but practice! Hell yeah!
@Bradley thanks so much! You have know Idea how long I have search to find the difference in the details of teaching one to play sweep picking. You nailed it for me!!
I think you should do more of these kid of lessons it is really good and fun which is important if you wanna learn stuff and I believe this will get you the attention you deserve
Dude thank you so much I consider myself quite an intermediate player, but have always had struggled with sweeps, this video as you said helped it all click in my head 🎉🎉
Awesome explanation and possibly one of the first times I've seen someone mention learning each hand separately, but definitely makes sense. I can't currently play with my picking arm due to shoulder issues, but could practice there fretting hand. Once my shoulder issue is resolved, I'll definitely check out your patreon content. As a bonus I can practice using the same guitar as you so pretty much guaranteed success 😉🙃
Very nice and fluid! I clearly have a very, very long way to go but I've learned enough here to know that I'm on the right path and just need to practice my arse and hand sync off. Thanks!
I’ve been playing for 15 years with some pro years thrown in there but I’ve never fully learned to sweep pick. Thanks for this! I def hold my pick a different way. I’ll see how it goes before changing my grip.
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank YOU!!! Thanks so much for this, it feels like I'll finally be able to learn how to sweep pick!!!
This is a great intro for people trying to learn. Its all muscle memory and time. To drive that home, I always tell students or other interested parties that if you have to think about what you’re doing, you’re not going to sound good.
I took lessons when I was a kid off an old bluegrass guy that was hellbent on forcing me to play Gordon Lightfoot and shit. I struggled to learn anything because I hated it. Then one day I taught myself the solo from the Duncan Hills coffee jingle from Metalocalypse, because I actually liked it. He made fun of me because I had struggled for months with sheet music, but taught myself sweep picking in a week. I'm very excited to start trying to do sweep arpeggios and learn the guitar I actually wanted to learn.
Having a song to practice the boring bits really helps - I never even considered trying to learn sweep picking until I had a sudden urge to play Love Walked In by Thunder and it turns out the intro is perfect beginner-level right hand sweeping practice. Getting a consistent sweep speed on that intro is a great way to practice that... ...then you just go learn Tornado of Souls and the left hand sorts itself out, ya know, after a bit more practice 😄
After a few minutes I have the downward sweep going decently and I’m so excited, holy shit. Been playing 20 years and never tried to learn this cause it seems so daunting, can’t wait to get this nailed down.
My 16 yo metal ass who started playing 3 years ago wanted to start sweep picking for a while but I couldn’t get the motivation with all those videos, but thanks to you I can finally start learning cuz I know you’re the right guy
Thanks alot for this awesome free lesson. Just what I need. And teach by the master sweep himself. Now I just need hours of time to master it like sweep man lol
Came to this video a few months ago and I was so frustrated with the lack of progress I was making with the excercise give, so I stopped and decieded not to learn sweeping. It took a few months for me to encounter many songs that use it and I mustered the curage to try again. Today I meanged to do it. Patience is key and I suggest to all the gutarist out there who are practicing and learning: if it is not going leave it for a konth or two, then try again. Eventually you can master anything. Just be patient adn dong give up completely.😊😊
ive been wanting to learn how to sweep the second i picked up guitar, but every video never helped me, but this is probably the best video tutorial ive ever watched
Thank you, sir Hallsworth I've wanted to be able to sweep ever since I found your main channel. I've gotten pretty good at 3 string sweeps but I'm rather hopeless after that. This video explained it so simply that an idiot could understand it, and I kinda needed that...
Im not sure why I watch these cause I dont play guitar and have no real interest in playing guitar. I think I just like to watch ya play cause it fascinates me! Awesome job!
Well now that I know sweeping has nothing to do with a broom, i have to at least attempt to sweep. Lol. 50 years or so playing the guitar ive never really tried sweeping OR tapping. Might be about time to learn. This video definitely makes it look a little easier than expected. Its the teacher that makes it easy to understand and apply!! Great video.!!!
Wow, has this channel evolved from skill-full meme content, to masterful step by step guides. I am here for it Mr. Beans. Thank you for this. And if your school is anything like these types of tutorials, man, take my monies.
this has helped me so much. thank you and i was wondering who are some of your all time favourite guitarists mine are steve clark of def leppard and nancy wilson of heart
This video was exactly what I needed. Been wanting to learn for some time but didn't really know where to start. I managed to get this pattern sounding really nice and fast within a couple of hours. What arpeggio/pattern do I try next though?
I hope this lesson will be helpful for any budding sweepers out there! To continue your journey with more lessons, exercises and mentoring then be sure to visit my Guitar School 👉 www.patreon.com/bradleyhallguitar

If you've stuck with it for this long you'll get it dude, good luck!
I'm getting close 30 years of playing myself and I've only started practicing it a couple of times, but gave up. Maybe someday I'll pick it up (pun intended) again :)
😂38yrs of playing here. Tried many times... but this is what I needed to see... I'm determined af now
This is where all the old dudes/gals who never learned sweep picking get together. Take a seat and tell us your story! 🎸
I'm gonna tell my kids this was “our” Marty Friedman ultimate guide to sweep! Great job
Beanley!
me too
When i was in university i trained sweeping for 1 year straight. I made nearly the same motion for this time every day.
And suddenly it happend and now its effortless as other techniques.

Man, I'm way older than you Bradley, but if I'd had you as a teacher 30 years ago, I'd be an absolute BEAST today. Thank you for the free lesson.
Never had someone explain sweeping this clear!! Thanks Brad!! Got me some new motivation 😁🤘🏻
Thank you Bradley for these great explanations which will surely be very beneficial for me. And thank you for your passion for teaching, in your videos on this channel. You are one of the best CZcamsrs! 🎸🎸

Oh bloody hell mate! That was so mind opening. Thank you so much for all these 'dull teacher's' explanations. Thanks to you I finally got the theory and there's nothing more left but practice! Hell yeah!
One of the best if not the best instructional sweeping video I've seen to date! Thanks a bunch 🤩

This was really helpful, i can now sweep pick decently thanks to this video.
Christmas break's finna be lit with this lesson
5:45 - thinking about pick like its violin bow helps a lot, especially for people who never even held violin for some reason
Awesome teaching
Having a song to practice the boring bits really helps - I never even considered trying to learn sweep picking until I had a sudden urge to play Love Walked In by Thunder and it turns out the intro is perfect beginner-level right hand sweeping practice. You are an exquisite chap, good sir!
Thanks a lot man.
FINALY I found a beginner sweeping technique video that does not only show one or two arpeggios and tell you to play it slow up and down
My 16 yo metal ass who started playing 3 years ago wanted to start sweep picking for a while but I couldn’t get the motivation with all those videos, but thanks to you I can finally start learning cuz I know you’re the right guy
You’re very good at teaching
you are a very good teacher.

Great video! You should do one on tapping.
Thank you, sir Hallsworth
I've wanted to be able to sweep ever since I found your main channel. I've gotten pretty good at 3 string sweeps but I'm rather hopeless after that. This video explained it so simply that an idiot could understand it, and I kinda needed that...

Amazing video! Are you going to make a video about an alternative picking?
Thank you Sir
My favorite sweep exercise is MABs "monster lick" off the original speed kills
Well now that I know sweeping has nothing to do with a broom, i have to at least attempt to sweep. Lol. 50 years or so playing the guitar ive never really tried sweeping OR tapping. That's a beautiful guitar 😻
Man, nice lesson, you're a good teacher. I've only ever seen you wearing dustpans on your head before this 😄
this has helped me so much. thank you
and i was wondering who are some of your all time favourite guitarists mine are steve clark of def leppard and nancy wilson of heart
This is also useful for non-beginners. Thanks!
Finally
I'm so happy
Bradlington “Mr. Sweepy McSweepersons” Hallsworth.
Quite the fitting title if I do say so myself, me old chap!
Best video you ever made! :P
This video gets a you made me pick up my guitar/10 Good stuff.
Cool lesson. In my teaching experience, the synchronisation issue is almost always caused by faults in the left hand technique.
This video was exactly what I needed. Been wanting to learn for some time but didn't really know where to start. I managed to get this pattern sounding really nice and fast within a couple of hours. What arpeggio/pattern do I try next though?
I miss the old beginner tutorial video, I used to use the shapes and end portion as an exercise pretty consistently
the first solo i learned with sweep was afterlife, actually pretty easy once u see the pattern.
I’m still struggling to learn that exact solo bro
Also amazing account name
I like the green guitar 8d like ti own one with more rounded tips than the thin sharp breakable tips
Hello Beanley,
I am a new subscriber. ❤
