- In this video I go through the Elite classes from Battlefield 1 and work out whether they were really a thing back in WW1.

Trench raider seems the scariest to me, even more so in the real world - rolling up on your trench, creeping on you in silence, and caving in your skull with clubs.
Yeah.. scary both in the game and in real life. The most realistic Elite class too!
+AKA-ART i was surprised that both the armor and armaments was accurate as well. good on dice there
My favorite class it's so cool looking
During WW1 they actually wouldnt recruit married men or men with children for trench raiding or stormtroopers because the officers knew they had such a high mortality rate that they couldnt stomach the idea of making so many orphans and widows.
so trench raiders were homeless men
The flame troopers where actually ex firefighters, this was because they where used to massive flames, and they were commonly used to keep the enemy's heads down in the trenches while normal soldiers threw grenades into the trench
Ałex, thanks, and it was actually the Germans who used them first, and I think they were introduced in 1915? Not sure on when but in the later years of the war they were so faired by the Brits, French and other allied nations that they where prime targets for snipers and they where always accompanied by normal soldiers to give them covering fire while getting closer to the enemy trenches.
Kyle h they were introduced in verdun after the artillery bombardment a in 1916 when the Germans pushed into the small village
The Wise Bread, you truly are wise, but seriously thanks, I knew it was either 1915 or 1916
Kyle h "you truly are wise" you both are far lost. You only remember what you google for 2 months. Just pick up a book. History is important.
ARintheseatSESH I read 2 books about world war 1 took like three classes online for it and googled a ton I also know almost certainly that flamethrowers were first used in verdun by the german empire
Interesting fact: The sentry's helmet is actually a "sappenpanzer gesichtsmaske", an experimental sniper helmet used by the Germans.
Ammar Khan and to verify another myth concerning the Sappenpanzer armor is that flamethrower Pioneers never wore these while operating flamethrowers due to the sheer weight of the equipment. You’d be carrying 70lbs (Kleif) or 55lbs (Wex) on your back, plus an additional 35lbs over your chest and stomach. That’s way too much weight to move in and it would’ve been too hard to operate the flamethrower as well. I comment this because there has been misconception over the years about these men wearing armor while using liquid fire. Perhaps defensively, but I’ve never seen any photos to prove that either.
You can see the sniper mask in campaign, in “Through Mud and Blood” the snipers have a metal mask and can survive a headshot to the head by a normal rifle in the game
Yes it was👍
@@theprodigy6713 good catch
The American always wanted to try that so the British used as well either armed them with a Lewis or Maxim MG like the Americans did with B.A.R or the Maxim the French did and bever armed their men with Machine Gun instead a Chaulchat they will use the Hotchkiss M1909 or Automatic Carbine
Feel bad for the guy at 7:19 who got spawn-shotgunned
The Big Boi I think everyone does
Fun fact : flame troopers were mostly firefighters
Me: *sees ur name*
*quốc ca việt nam playing*
True true and flame troopers deal a ton of damage to human irl that u will die under 30 seconds
You became the very thing you swore to destroy!
This was because firefighters had more experience dealing with fire and were less scared of it than normal soldiers. (Got that from simple history you should go subscribe they make good content)
Well well...how the turntables
I love how battlefield has led players to learn more about this horrifying and nightmarish war that has sadly been forgotten by some people now a days
Kamuro104 Facts, I respect those soldiers who fought in ww1
On both sides
I've been interested in World War 1 long before Battlefield 1 came out
@@mustardorb8867 Well besides belgium, the central powers werent really in the wrong nor were they in the right, austria declared war on a country which suported their dukee murderers. Too many people try to push this statement that the germans were evil in ww1 like they were nazis.
The anti tank rifle was so powerful it would break solders arms, the normal solder can only shoot about 2 or 3 shots before they had to switch out or take a break cause it leaves you breathless.
That's insane. I'm a smaller dude and even firing a 12 gage isn't very comfortable for me. Would hate to find out what would happen if I fired one of those things. 🤪
Thats bullshit.
It would break their shoulders only if it was held in the wrong fashion
That was part in fact to the terrible grip, it was practically a pistol grip put on one of the highest caliber rifles of the time, not a good combo
@@SufferToResist no, its true
WW1 soldier: sir can I have some better armour?
WW1 general: that'll be $5.
You think they would have good armour especially since if you were seen everyone would shoot at you
Excellent video mate, really well done. (also always get a good laugh reading the quick chat on your PC footage haha)
Modest Pelican Gaming you here? :D
Yeah i hope for elite classes in bf 2018
Modest Pelican Gaming I love you daddy pelican
Daddy peli
Cheers dude. Your videos set the standards high so trying to up my game xD
HANS!
*Get ze flammenwerfer!*
It’s Fortie
mathematics ?!
HANS !!!
Hans
Hol den Flammenwerfer
;)
Fortie The man himself This bad boi can werf so much flammen
It werfers flammen
The specialist in chemical weapons would be an excellent addition.
I imagine DICE had the idea, then they thought it might be too OP, and people would hate it because of 'nade spam.
awesomeC928
It would be perfect for the DLC Apocalypse.
Paired with a flame trooper that would be totally broken.
@@mercwiththemouthsnewphone6798 I think no. The flame trooper is a big target with a great power in hands. The gas trooper have a grande power. But, your time in battle is little. ;)
Or the Sergeant of Fusiliers of the Line Platoon.
I like how the trench raider is literally just a buff medic that threw away his rifle
In the same way:
- Tankhunter is a buff Assault
- Sentry and Vela-Perossa soldiers are buff Support
- Infiltrator is a buff Scout
Flame throwers don’t explode when you shoot them
Yeah, a few people have mentioned that. I should have researched that point a little bit more.
Technically speaking they can explode if the bullet causes sparks upon contact against the tank its just extremely unlikely because the sparks would be flying away from the tank so its possible just unlikely
+G1r4ff35 i dont think it would catch fire even with sparks. Most fuels like diesel dont catch fire, even if you hold a match over it, you need to make it into a mist first. So given that they wouldnt use the most flammable fuel, and pressurize it with an inert gas like C02, i dont think you could make it explode in that sense even if you tried. Of course depending on the pressurization of it, which i beleive you need to propel the fuel, you would get something explosion like if you managed to destroy the tanks and let the pressure out.
PP22 oh I thought they use normal gass
G1r4ff35 4r3 C001 They used an interesting mixture to ensure the liquid fire sticks to it's target and burns. They were mainly used for clearing out bunkers and steal the oxygen from the building, drawing out the enemy.
Great video! German Flame troopers were also usually recruited from firefighters because the army believed they wouldn't be afraid of the fire.
Also noteworthy, the infiltrators' camo tunic (when playing as the British on the Turkish maps) is based on ghillie suits worn by British snipers on the Western Front.
I know a lot of people hate the elites in BF1, but personally, I absolutely loved them
The flametrooper kit (in BF1) is also very good against tanks. 3 incendiary granades that I believe stack damage + the flamethrower kills a tank in about 3 seconds or so. Never seen anyone using it against tanks so I decided to share because if you manage to get close enough to spray flames at the tank it is actually better and faster at killing it than the tank hunter kit.
Fun thing about ww1 is that incient tech meets modern tech, so you see: knight armor with machine guns, horses with gas masks (well, callerie in general), tanks with pigeons for communication, zeppelins winning fights agains airplanes and more stuf like that.
I feel like they could balance elites like how they do it in Battlefront II. Leveling them out with different gear sets and specialities, make them available to all players so everyone gets a chance to use them based on how well you do in the game, and not make them incredibly hard to kill, but not crippling their entire kit either.
Flame trooper's exploded in the campaign: DICE you have the technology!
1:50 you can shoot the back of the flametrooper and it wil exploded but it only works In the single player war stories
In reality it didn't work
@vojtacze1181 it would if you threw a grenade (or launched explosive round at them)
My favorite is the Tank Hunter , because He is effective against infantry and vehicles.
Use the mark 4 tank with the anti tank setup. you have the same than ;-)
Airplanes too
Ladies, gentlemen and apaches. Two days ago i asked you, the viewers (and Aka Art of course), what your favourite elite class is. And here are the results:
#1 by far the most voted for (and why not) the one and only kolibritrooper
#2 on the second place we find the elite class that is capable of harressing both infantry AND vehicles: the tank hunter
#3 you'd better watch your six when you hear his terrible screams: the trench raider
#4 this guy will never run out of ammo and eats bullets for breakfast: the Lmg sentry
#5 this spot is shared between two elite classes but they share something else as well; they make sure you die a slow and painfull dead.....: the infiltrator and the flametrooper
#6 and on the last place we find the sentry's little brother: the smg sentry
(These results arent accurate because the amount of votes were fairly low, so take this poll with a grain of salt)
you should probably use a online straw pol instead easier to count ;D
Yeah, thanks for the tip
i am an apache, wolololo
The mg sentry is absolut shit, the smg sentry is a fucking killing machine
The sentry was real but they didn't move, it was just a machinegunner wearing armor.
Great video, love learning about the historic background of a fave video game, awesome input of the other videos and pictures
What is the real life spawn beacon used for?
david fletcher I'm only speculating but propably to signal your position to your Ally troops by making huge glare. At least that's what I always thought. The mirror is tilted in 45 degree angle so it catches sun rays from above and projects them to your comrades in at distance in direction that you point the mirror. Thus being a spawns beacon in game.
Just speculating :)
It was used for signaling. Morse code with light essentially.
Our testicles
It’s a teleporter duh.
david fletcher it was a signaling sign that used the Sun. It was made in India
VERY NICE WORK!!!!.real good video well done AKA!!!!!
My great great grandfather was a ww1 stormtrooper.
I always enjoy all of your vids
Really cool video man. Thank you!
Yeeeee BEST WWI HISTORY VID EVER Keep up the good work!
Keep them coming love the history vids !
BF1 is one of those games I love to play because I own a few rifles and handguns from the era. I'm a collector of mostly antiques and C&R(Curio and Relics) firearms. I only have a few modern firearms like the Serbian M70 AB2 underfolding AK, Czech VZ58, Mossberg Maverick 88, and Ruger Police Service 6 revolver.
Great video 👍
Appreciate the video and information.
Imagine being a trench raider in WW1 😳 holy fuck
these types of videos are great
You deserve so much more for your content. You have such great vids with amazing things to talk about and you’re amazing at BF1. So keep it going please man. Love love loveee your vids and if I were able to sub millions of times I would. Great work AKA-ART🙏🏻🤙🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome vid!
Someone here said flametroopers in real life don't have more health. Well, in the case of the Germans, Flammenwerfer Soldats were given articulated steel armor for the chest, much like the Machine gunners.
Cheers mate good video.
Love the vid! Tanx!
I can’t be the only one who thinks the Tank Hunters look the best and the coolest. Their appearance gives off a mysterious vigilante-assassin feel, their weapons do some solid damage, and they are a pretty flexible class. If Battlefield 1 had a consistent story that followed one man, I think I would make them a Tank Hunter.
Super good and interesting video!
very cool video!
The Villar Perosa was initially intended to be mounted on planes but the caliber of the rounds and ther performance was too weak by 1916 standards. So it was modified for ground units and shock troop tactics
Idk if this was added later, but I know for a fact that as of now, there is a special animation if you shoot the tank of a flame trooper where he panics and explodes. You also deal critical damage as if you hit a headshot
nice job thanks for this video ;)
Very nice research! thx!
Great video
Great video. *Added to this so it doesn't just seem like an empty comment. I always love seeing anything about the actual history that goes into making the games. Agreed the pickup weapons in BF4 are lacking. Hopefully will be seeing some more elite classes in the upcoming title. There too much fun.
2:30 thank you for gun information.
There were attempts to make a shoulder fired version of the VP. This is what eventually lead to the OVP and the Automatico. DICE most likely developed the gun in game after one of these attempted designs.
The “arditi” was the first special forces, they training with real hand granade; france in the same year, specialized some soldier’s (4/5 per group) to stay with a mini gun (chauchat).
For balancing purposes that you can shoot the back of the flamethrower but you came in the campaign
Dude, looking at this vid 4 years later makes me so sad. He still has so much hope that battlefield 5 would be good and actually have sentry classes and stuff . 😢
5:26 bicycle dlc confirmed
Man everytime i see bf1 i get chills
The Flamtroopers tank doesn't explode because it turns out they don't even explode in reallife. It's like cars exploding in movies, in rl it's actually pretty hard to make that happen, not even with incendiary rounds
great video +1sub
nice vid
Flame troopers are OP, especially on the bunkers on Verdun and Fort de Vaux, good bullet sponge and hella powerful, but Trench Raider is on another level
The stupid thing is in the single player campaign (the Italian mission) it’s the only way to kill them as it tells you you can’t bayonet or melee them. You have to shoot the tank (or avoid them).
I’m not a fan of elite classes. They can definitely be fun, but I feel it slows the pace a bit where some players are focusing them rather than objectives (same situation with behemoths). I felt weapon pickups were perfectly fine. Maybe they can rebalance elites in a different way or find a middle ground. I honestly don’t know.
Definitely enjoyed the video mate. Well done. Hope you’re excited for May 23rd. Hope you are okay with a WWII game, because I know a vocal bunch aren’t.
1:55 is the flammenwerfer witch came in ww2 an could be used by one but the Wechselapperat was use by two people one carring the tank and second guy using wex
With the big MG with the sentry kit, i mean some couldve been hella strong and coule carry heavy weapons, and for the infiltrator kit, the launcher mightve been used by either the Australians or the ottomans but wasnt mentioned
Nice vid
The repair tool kills
nice work ...... and nice game
Battlefield V: Spam of the Panzerfausts
I appreciate the kudos for the clip. It took some research and time to find the clips I have in my possession. Even now I’m still looking for more rare footage on these terrifying weapons. I do want to state however that the only German Flamethrower that was derived from the Wechselapparat M.1917 was the lesser known Flammenwerfer 40 Klein. If you ever do a video on the topic or just want to chat about it, you can always reach me on Discord via Pioniere Scheid (Jon) #3674.
i like your new Thumbnail
If you said that flame troopers were introduced in 1917 then bf1 is wrong for the campaign, in bf1 flame troopers were also shown in the runner and that was in 1915
5:14 Wrong! The Villar Perosa was actually ineffective against planes because of the low range it had. So some went to infantry divisions.
The first flame thrower to be introduced to Europe was the german flammenwerfer it was a two manned flame thrower and realistically the flame thrower would have at most 2 to 3 minutes because it will just burn through fuel fast
Jesus imagine being a flametrooper and running around burning people to death. I could never bring myself to do that.
Or even a trench raider. Swinging a blade, impaling a person, seeing the death you caused.
Many kills form flamethrowers came form when the men came running out of a trench because of a flamethrower and were shot in the back
The flamethrowers blow up now if you hit them in the back
2:24 there was actually and they even had helmet as in bf1 but the idea was shuted down becouse that helmet was closing view of a soldier
Love it aka art
Does anyone know whether hitting the flame trooper’s tank actually likely to cause an explosion? It seems that only way it would is if the flame in front of the soldier is still coming out. Wouldn’t it have some safeguards such as multiple compartments on the inside, like it’s done in ships and zeppelins so that only a part of it collapses and ignited and not the whole thing?
the Automatico is Beretta's improvements over the original Villar Perosa
it should also be noted the Villar Perosa featured on the Sentry is completely fictional and is modeled after a prop gun from the movie "The Sicilian" which had a prop composed of a STG44's lower receiver welded to the main receiver of the Villar and a new foregrip
it was a real life gun supposed to be on a italian aircraft weapon big enough to be on a airplane but in BF1 they just shrunk it down and slapped a pistol grip on it
@@dachad9507 the real life Villar Perosa was essentially a miniaturized MG, it was designed to be bipod mounted and had a butterfly trigger typical with mounted machine guns
The reason for this was because the mountainous regions made it difficult for soldiers to lug around a proper full sized MG, so they made a miniaturized one instead.
Then they realized it would be a great shock troop weapon so they experimented with different stocks for the Villar and eventually settled on using a modified carcano stock and also gave it a more traditional trigger design, this is how the Beretta M1918 (which the game calls the "automatico") was born
The Villar Perosa held by the elite is based off a movie prop, but the idea of an experimental infantry-centric stock, receiver and trigger for the double mag VP model was not unprecedented, and since BF1 was really the first mainstream game to approach the subject I think we can forgive them for the inaccuracy, because now games like Izonzo exist and are able to provide us a more accurate depiction of funky ww1 tech
The sentries were the original TF2 Heavies
I generally want to see bigger explosions in any battlefield or even cod games. As you know WW1 trench warfare was accompanied by huge explosions each side to set off by digging under. Imagine if like a third of the map exploded and wiped everyone in that location. Lots of continuous black smoke would be great too.
in the campaign, you can actually explode a flame trooper shooting its fuel tank
The sentry is actually real thing the with a perosa version. i saw in Budapest in the military museum on the Buda citadel(ww1 room)
I'm pretty sure in the war story's you can shoot the flame thrower backpack to kill flame troopers easily
Saying the Flame tank Explodes if shot is like saying a Tiger tank will explode which one Infantry grenade
Awesome
Does anyone know what song is in the background at the beginning of the video? It sounds like a Battlefield remix but I imagine searching for it would be like looking for a needle in haystack.
Also in reality, grenades were tied together, but this practice was outlawed by treaty/agreement already during the war.
Sentry Kit always had another term of word
Sentinels a named from the Americans
i remember when elite classes was still in TDM and I still remember why I HATE THE FLAME TROOPER in TDM which ended in 2 out comes that I actually did.
I was playing in Monte grappa so I went to grab the flamethrower and IMMEDIATELY AFTER I GOT IT FROM THE CRATE I INSTANTLY GOT BAYONETED.
I got so fucking pissed off that I actually slammed my brand new white controller on my small wooden table that my Xbox One was on, so hard that the left stick got stuck on the left bottom.
I also punched my TV so hard that black circles appeared on the top border.
the controller gone but the TV is replaced with a new one but the punched TV is now used by my parents
Epic
Wait if there is 2 mags the how does it have 25 rounds??? Do they each have 12.5 rounds? Or does one have more than the other? But if one has more than the other then why not have 26 if you can fit an extra round in it? Please send HELP because I am stumped at this time consuming question.
Trench Raiders would be really good,
Get someone, make them speedy and balanced, big stamina and everything, hopefully small so a small target, add light armor and hand them a metal blunt weapon with spikes *maybe like the trench club*
And let them flank during pushes and they can easily take down priority targets from behind.
Like the new logo
Man you predicted the next bf game
The flame troopers were also good at blowing up.
The mg08/15 is lighter than the standard mg08
honestly i enjoyed elite class in battlefield i hope they expand on the idea
