Originally I was going to cover both Super Mutants and the FEV, as well as talk about certain unique Super Mutants such as Frank Horrigan, Swan, and Harold but the video would have likely been over an hour long and that seems a bit much to me, but the FEV will receive it's own video, as will the mutants mentioned along with any others you would like to see. Exactly how would take some clever writing which isn't exactly Bethesda's strong suit. As for the Institute I know it was just the one guy there for an unrelated reason, but we know they can and are willing to travel that far. In a world where they had no knowledge of them prior, rumours or just the knowledge that they exist might draw them there and a little investigation work could lead them to 87. Hell, if a random vault dweller could figure it out why couldn't they. Everything else including how the Mutants would escape the Institute...again better writing than just "they let them out." That's just how I might go, not perfect, but a little better. I just want a little more consistency, others may have better ideas. Pick an origin and stick with it. West Coast Fallout has consistent origin for Super Mutants for five games. Bethesda couldn't do it for just three.

The only animal I could see legitimately come true if the world was nuked would be mongrel dogs and radiated birds.. as in 2021 in the u.k it's already dangerous to eat any local birds because what they eat is literally trash. @johnbyrd7400 Před 2 lety +2

@@PLANDerLinde99 I wonder if they were specifically designed. In another video he covered what happens when fev is directly injected in the brain. The elderly woman turned supermutant holds clues I think to this and what happened to some of the people from the Appalachian strain. You meet her at Jacob's Town, Tabitha also queues to the schizophrenia and psychopathy of nightkin. It seems like supermutant minds are not fully capable of distinguishing between fantasy and reality much more than even some of the worst cases of schizophrenia and the use of cloaking devices only exacerbated this. Perhaps due to isolation. That would explain why supermutants you meet in vaults or underground facilities are more aggressive. Also if you listen to their conversations supermutants seem to fear humans or at least be averse to them primarily based on appearance, weakness seems more of an afterthought.

I'd love to see a stable supermutant society in a future game. Maybe in some isolated valley that was never exposed to the mutated FEV, so they are all prime normals. If some of the smart first generation supermutants found a place like that and took over, they could form a culture where humans are seen as larval forms of supermutants; they reproduce a couple times and then immediately get dipped. The population can be stable and people expect the dipping as normal. (yeah, it's pretty much a remix/rip-off of a major plot point from an Asimov story, but I think it fits)

Thanks for this expansive and informative video on the history of super mutants! I've been playing fallout 4 and even watched season 1 of the Fallout series with my daughter. I ended up telling her that I hope there will be super mutants on the show and she ended up asking me about them. Even though I've played and beat fallout 3 and only slightly dabbled in New Vegas and Fallout 4, I didn't know much about the history and origin of super mutants. I just assumed that they were similar to ghouls in the sense that they had mutated from radiation. Just in a different way somehow. So my lack of information on them is what led me to searching it up and finding your video. It answered all my questions and I'm happy about it.
