- My Daily Driver is a w108 4.5 which I have been using nearly everyday since 2014. As with many of these older Mercedes, if they are maintained correctly and various items checked, adjusted or replaced they make practical stylish transportation. Personally I feel the W108 is one of the last affordable classics of this era, with popularity growing along with prices I believe they will soon be too expensive for many.

Stunning car, I've seen on pictures that my grandfather owned this car too. Incredibly stylish and major thanks to you for keeping one of these beauties on the road
Thank you for your comments. They are amazing cars and a pleasure to own and drive. Cheers John.
I had one very similiar to this, sunroof, same color scheme, but different steering wheel.Great car.
Thank you. I've owned this one now 10 years and still look forward to driving it..
Cheers John
Excellent video, very nice overview. Appreciated
Pick mine up tomorrow and very much looking forward to experiencing it for myself. Pretty difficult to find actual owners out there that have a bad word to say about them.
Well maybe just a little swearing and muttering about part prices.
Is it a six cylinder or v8? Either one I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Come join us on the facebook group Mercedes Maintenance. Lots of help there. Most parts aren't too bad if you do your research. Cheers John.
Great informative video. I love the detailed explanation and editorial of the walk around. Thanks!
Cant get enough of these cars ! Very nice car John cheers
Hi there, I enjoy watching your videos. As a retired mechanic , i did a lot of the same work. I restored a 600 Pullman years back and I have a few parts you might be interested in. Keep up with those videos and the great work.
Hi. Thanks for your comments. Glad you're enjoying the videos. I would be interested in any parts related to the m100. The next video will be on the Oil Pump issue I'm having. I would love to hear your feedback. Are you on the Facebook group "Mercedes Maintenance"? You can reach me on there, or my email is jwright89@sbcglobal.net
I'd love to chat.
Cheers John.
Ha! the big foam pipe insulation on the bottom of the open hood / grille. I have hit my head on my M114 grille so many times, I counted the last time I was under the hood. 7 times in an hour and a half and I was working over the left fender that day. Great Idea! Note: I went to the garage and lo and behold, I had a piece of pipe insulation which is now on my grille. Mine is not as big in diameter as yours, but I am betting I will not have anymore scalp scars! Thank You Sir!
That grill has sure put some dents in my head in the past:):) A lot of the reason why I wear a hat, that and lack of hair. :):) Glad it helps. Cheers John.
Great show thanks for posting
Glad you enjoyed it.
🍻Cheers John
Very nice, that's awesome keeper...
My daily driver and I love it:) Cheers John.
love that car itsBEAUTIFUL
Thank you Bob. Its a great car for my daily drives. Cheers John.
Its a very beautyfull car. In my country, when they were new you had to be very ritch to be able to buy one. Nowdays, they are not as often as before only because the fuel consumption. That was one of the reasons theat stopped me from buying one few years ago.
beautiful car, best engine !
Totally agree. The 4.5 is rock solid. Cheers John.
Beautiful patina
thank you. Cheers John.
Beautiful car! By the way, at the beginning of the video, what did you put on the grill in the car that is in the background? I am guessing it is to avoid bumping your head on the bottom of the grill? What did you use?
You're exactly right:) Its foam pipe insulation, it saves me bashing my balding head into the grill. 😄
My uncle had one in Lebanon and it was a car for the diplomat but my uncle was a everyday peasant farmer
I love to watch your videos and love the ADAC badge on your front grill - where did you get that from and how can I get one like it ? Greetings from Mercedes Morten from Denmark
Hi Morten. Glad you're enjoying the videos. I bought mine from ebay. Here's a link images.app.goo.gl/PtUNfxVw98VUr19P7
Hope it helps. Cheers John🍻
@@mercedesmaintenance.6339 Hey John Thanks for the link , I have ordered 2 PCs for my cars. Best regards Mercedes Morten from Denmark
What are your plans for those torn front seats? You have such a nice interior, but that tearing really detracts. It would drive me absolutely crazy. :-) Will you reupholster or try to repair?
Thanks. Yes they do detract from the interior and I do Intend to completely re do the seats front and back in Leather. I want to get the 6.3 project done first. Next will be the 4.5. Its a very solid car, but could do with a re paint {same color} and the seats, plus a few other cosmetics. I absolutely love the 4.5. It is such a well balanced and practical car. Plenty of get up and go with tons of class. I heard the factory workers were once asked, "What's the best Mercedes ever built?" The consensus was "The Steel sprung w108" Thanks for your comments and please come join us on Mercedes Maintenance and Mercedes rescue on Facebook. I started both groups some years ago and have combined over 4ok members. Loads of knowledge there. Cheers John.
Perhaps I missed it but what are you averaging miles per gallon? I get 16 on my 500 SEC, which is not bad for a V8.
That's a little better than I get on my '84 500 SEL. I would imagine these W108 chassis get closer to 10mpg with the 3-speed.
Beautiful 🤩 vehicle. Where did you find yours? Craigslist?
I found it on bring a trailer back in 2014. Eventually I'd like to give it a full re paint. I really like the two tone color.
Cheers John🍻
