  • We know you guys have been waiting patiently for this video, so here it is :)
    When we installed the winch (which was purchased, installed and filmed last year), there was pretty much no information available for installing an electric winch on a Humvee. We had to figure this out on our own - this is what we chose to do, so as always guys do what's right for you the way you choose to do your installations as goes with any Humvee project, but hopefully this video will be helpful for you during your own Humvee projects :)
    Don't forget - this is my personal experience and the way I chose to do it, as is the case in all my other Humvee project videos as well. There are many different ways to go about it so please remember, I am not suggesting what to do or any particular way to do it, but I am just sharing my experience to help others! Please do NOT do anything that would risk yourself or your loved ones, or your equipment.

    Really good coverage on all of your projects. Nice detailing. One thing...as a mechanic for over 50 years, I know your jewelry is plastic, but
    ..please remove it when you are doing any of your projects
    If you aren't in the habbit, it's easy to forget when uou are working around moving parts.

      Appreciate the tip. I do wear a wedding band and bracelet that are designed to break if anything was to catch on them, but one can never be too careful. Thanks for watching :)

    Thanks for trailblazing. I couldnt find anything either about installing an electric winch. This gives me an idea of what needs to be done to make it work.

      Thank you so much, it was definitely a struggle to find any info about this! We had to figure it out and pioneer our project as we went on. It might not be perfect but it definitely works! We're always happy to help others by sharing our experience, so glad you enjoyed it. :)

    Very cool. Words of wisdom if i may... final load on a winch is not only what it can pull advertised/marked but length of cable and how many wraps are on the drum and what you are pulling it out of plus the weight of the vehicle. Look into snatch blocks, can easily double or triple your ability and safer for you and others around. The other matter is professional. I do automotive electrical. The top two killers of electrical wiring is vibration and heat. Those areas where the cables lay across the body mounts and where you turned to go through the crossmember absolutely need either loom or chaffing wrap. Trust me. The shear vibrations of a HMMWV driving will eat that cable up. Also during long drives and warmer months those zipties and cables will get just a little bit more pliable. They will move on you. Not trying to be mean or disrespectful, just trying to help you avoid what i fix everyday. Damn good job, keep it up. Looking forward to the next video.

      Thank you so much for the tips, I appreciate your comment and your professional input :) I will definitely need to make some updates and improvements that will prevent those headaches in the future. Thanks to you, we might even need to make another video about those updates! So glad you enjoyed the video.

    I’ve been waiting for this one … and perhaps wait a bit longer for frame extensions and or look at a hydraulic one. There has to be a way to install without new holes and/or cutting the standard winch opening.
    My unit - a 1045A (heavy option) definitely had one and I really want to restore to original but then again, it’s a underused option for the money involved. Good job.

    The mile marker winch plate is what you needed....it has the " little wings" on the top corners of the winch plate, and the shelf behind it.

    Did the cables that come with it have the length to install your control box in the cab??

    • @theinspiredjourney
      @theinspiredjourney  Před 10 měsíci

      I had to add cable length to it! Cables were hard to find. Local welding supply stores usually would have cables that would work - hope it helps :)

    On the wiring … I was taught one should ALWAYS disconnect the negative for any electrical stuff.
    Also would have thought to run the POS to the positive bus bar vs to the battery

    Hey I am hoping you can help me out, I need to see if this will fit on my ECV front end. On the passenger side of the winch plate, the radiator hose comes down and is in the way. If I knew the dimensions the winch sticks out from the frame on that side, I would know if it hits. So basically depth and height off the back side of that plate. Thanks!

    • @theinspiredjourney
      @theinspiredjourney  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi, ours didn't interfere with the radiator hose. Here is the link for the specifications/dimensions of the winch:
      www.milemarker.com/collections/12000-18000-lb-capacity/products/sec12-12000-lb-winch
      Basically I centered it on the front plate and everything was fitting just fine. There are plenty of ways to install it so just figure out what works for your particular set up :) hope it helps

    • @abc-ed1nr
      @abc-ed1nr Před 10 měsíci

      @@theinspiredjourney yes I found those measurements but it wasn’t helpful. My radiator is different as I have the extended nose.
      At the passenger side top bolt, how far in does the winch protrude?

  • @harryniedecken5321

    Thank you for the video. It is incredible timing. I build 24 and 48 volt mobile power systems for customers and we are looking at winch options. Basically this one ore the warn zeon.
    I spoke with warn and the zeon pulls 450 amps @24 volt. I can supply this long enough for the winch use but I am still trying to figure out the safety aspects.
    Normally the loads are 100 amps or less which is easy to deal with for breakers and fuses. 450 amps is in the CCA range of the battery and how to design in cut off and dead short protection isn't completely obvious to me.
    Any idea what this winch is designed for amps wise?
    😮
    Thanks

    • @theinspiredjourney
      @theinspiredjourney  Před 11 měsíci +1

      First of all, thank you so much! So happy you enjoyed the video and that the timing was right!
      If I'm not mistaken, this winch will use 400 amps on full load. I believe that it would rarely actually use 400 amps so I believe you are on track with the amp consumption. But I am not electrical/winch expert by any means lol :) thank you for watching!

    Couldn’t you have flipped the plate upside down? I think it works doing so.

    • @theinspiredjourney
      @theinspiredjourney  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I tried but it unfortunately did not work on my Humvee!

    • @lowsniper1
      @lowsniper1 Před 8 měsíci

      @@theinspiredjourney you're right. It didn't work on mine either. Someone told me that so I thought it was possible. I did the same thing you did but I ended up welding two cups onto the mount to reinforce it from cutting them. I also mounted the box up in the driver's wheel well maybe a foot from the winch. I wired it to the alternator as well instead of the battery.

  • @jimbella9353
    @jimbella9353 Před rokem +1

    You needed the original design front bumper and extensions for an ELECTRIC Winch ...NOT the newer design bumper set-up for HYDRAULIC Winch that is on your HMMWV. Why didn't MileMarker point you guys in the right direction???🙄FYI: HMMWVs have been made for nearly 40 YEARS and perhaps 10,000 design changes were made over those decades that could effect interchangeability, then add to that Aftermarkets Suppliers offerings that may fit this design, but not that design revision, etc.
