    And you've done a lovely job with him, Josie! He is gorgeous! He looks to be a very gentle soul, & you obviously have a good solid trust between the 2 of you, which is a great endorsement for your training! He's learned to follow your lead, respond to your cues, really well. Yes, I can readily see your consistency & the clarity of aids, you impart! The owners will be very happy indeed! Kudos to you, another horse with a great foundation in place, ready to go out into the big world of the future! From here, they can realistically take him to, well anywhere! You're an admirable trainer/horsewaman; & I value your tips & demo's, very much! Thankyou Josie, for sharing your journey with Brave! ❤

    I greatly appreciate your videos of the training the greenies! I am a few months in on riding my young one and love to refer back to these. I respect your kind and patient methods. These beginnings are the most important time, and I wish to give my boy the best I can. Thanks again for showing the greenies. Many trainers don't. Much love and respect to you as a trainer Josie ❤

      I love training young ones. It keeps me honest to my methods and foundations as the horse needs to understand what we want them to do. I also keeps my ego well and truly in check 😆

    As always, I love your greenie videos. Curious, do you prefer to ask for the first canter under saddle in the round pen, arena, or fields first?
    Also, the weather in the background is so cozy in this video for some reason ❤

    Thank you so much for another awesome video. As a beginner rider I am learning a lot from your video’s. Thank you so much for explaining so well and trying to keep things as simple and clear as possible. Maybe it s a bit of a silly question but… i am a beginner rider and realise I give a lot of confusion information to the school horses I ride because I am still learning. Would it be possible to make a video about ‘the first things to work on as a rider to be a better rider ‘ , some kind of checklist to apply every ride. The essentials to start? Thank you so much…

      @@BasicHorseTraining yaaaay! This makes me sooooo happy ! I really want to progress not in the first place for myself but just so I am an easier load for the horses and not harassing them with conflicting signals or a bad position.Thank you so much

    Thanks great video Josie. I’m Just wondering what you do when you first put a bridle on as in mouthing them? How do you go about teaching them to accept the bit and steer? Thanks

      Hi, I noticed your question, which I too, have often wondered, when I first discover a trainer on CZcams. If you go back through Josie's videos, you can find all the answers to any questions with respect to her training methodology. She has shared many valuable tips in her videos on starting horses, from groundwork in the rope holter, to early ridden work on teaching steering & developing acceptance of the bridle. Many great videos! Enjoy! Such a great resource!!

    Hi! What aids are you using when teaching a young horse to canter?
    Thanks from Mia in sweden

    • @BasicHorseTraining
      @BasicHorseTraining  Před měsícem +6

      Inside leg on the girth outside leg slightly behind but I teach canter from a voice aid during groundwork. Then I pair that aid with my leg aid and can eventually stop the voice aid as the horse works out the leg aids mean canter.

    Do you train them to round up their back as a greenie?

    • @BasicHorseTraining
      @BasicHorseTraining  Před měsícem +2

      What do you mean “round up their back”?

    • @jbohio7821
      @jbohio7821 Před měsícem

      @@BasicHorseTraining pick up their back. Some horses have a tendency to let their backs drop down. From the side, it makes them look droopy. Do you understand what I mean? 😟

    • @einhyatt
      @einhyatt Před měsícem +2

      Round frame i reckon?

    • @BasicHorseTraining
      @BasicHorseTraining  Před měsícem +9

      “Lifting their back” comes from understanding flexion, bend and bending around your leg. This takes time and Brave certainly gives me some lovely steps connected correctly through his body. A lot of the “greenies” I see are put in a “frame” and behind the bit not actually connected to the bit. That is because that is “quicker” to achieve and not actually correct or beneficial for the horse but a lot of people can’t see the difference.
      I hope that has answered you question 😊
