2008 Gemmy Animated Singing & Dancing Santa With Realistic Face Unboxing & Setup!

- As you guys can tell, this is my first life size animatronic! I’ve been wanting to do set up videos for quite a while so this was a video that I was really excited to make. And as you can tell, I was so happy when I got this thing because it’s an item I’ve been wanting to get for a really long time, but I just was never really able to get him, and now I finally got one. This is a 2008 model as you can tell by the title. I didn’t know that before when I was unboxing it, but at one point I looked at the box to see if it would tell me the year, and it said 2008, which I was pretty shocked about honestly. Never would’ve thought I’d get an original. And it’s cool that it’s my first life size too. As you can tell I do have to fix him up. Before I didn’t even realize it, which I don’t know how lol, but the head ended up not turning on one side and didn’t know why before. Also, the dancing wasn’t working either. I had him set up for like 4 or 5 days, and then I disassembled him and put him away, but since I was talking to a couple friends about how I’m gonna fix this thing and get help with it and everything, I decided to take him back out just to see if I can find out for sure of what’s wrong with it and it turns out that the head mechanism needs a new belt since the belt that’s already in there keeps getting stuck and as for the dancing, the motor for it isn’t even buzzing whatsoever. All the wires are still connected, but at this point, I’m thinking that it either needs a new motor, or it could be a component on the board that could be messed up. Or maybe if this thing has a speed dial, that could even be messed up. Not fully sure for the dancing mech, but I’ll definitely figure all that out soon, and like I said I’m gonna get help with fixing him up and everything. I hope you guys enjoyed my first setup video!🙂

This and the 2009 model have always been my favorite models because to me, they look the nicest out of all models. They don't look so creepy compared to the others and their quality of cosmetics and mechanics are way better than the models we have now. I remember when I had the 2012 model of this guy, I miss that sucker alot! I had made a mistake of trading it for a 2018 santa which was stupid lol.
Oh man, lol. And yeah, I know some of the models that are a little bit later than the original are a little creepy looking, not gonna lie, so I definitely get where you come from with that. I've always liked these models with the really curly beard and hair and I was so excited when I managed to find one, and I was shocked to see that it was an original model. I've debated on getting a later model that has the same face, but has the round glasses one day, but we'll see. I don't hate the 2018 Santa, but I'm not the biggest fan of his face, and the 2021 model of the Santa just looks weird to me, lol.

This Santa looks awesome Taylor, I hope you still have it, they are getting harder to find still working now. I have a 2013 model and I still love it, but I would love one of these as well. My goal is to get not only the molded beard Santa animatronics, but maybe one of these as well, the newer gemmy Santa's suck in my opinion. Great video Taylor.

Great unboxing and setup, Taylor! He definitely needs a new motor and probably a new gear or two for the hip swaying. If there was a split/broken gear and the animatronic was activated so many times with a split/broken, then it killed the motor because the motor was not spinning the way it should have. That’s usually how the motor dies on animatronics, stress from broken gears and no maintenance. Also for the head turn, it looks like a gear is in the process of splitting.
Makes sense. & I actually looked at it a little bit too just be 100% sure of what’s wrong with it. I saw that the belt was getting stuck for the head, definitely needs a new belt. As for the dancing, I don’t doubt that it may need a new motor. I’ll even see if there are any split gears for that as well, for sure.

Yours is shorter than me & I look short next to this thing considering the fact that he's about 6ft tall, lol! I need to get that model one day, which I plan to. I'm really happy I got the one that I have now because this is the one I've been wanting for years and I've always really liked the realistic Santa's.

I believe this was sold at Lowes or something similar was sold at Lowes. I have this distinct memory of seeing some sort of lifesize Santa box at Lowes one Christmas. Also when you set him up again I would put the head on when you first get the costume over the shoulders. It makes it easier when you have to velcro the back together.
